Need to choose between two IKEA kitchen layouts!
Comments (6)I know you didn't ask for layout help other than the peninsula vs island, but... Is that your refrigerator against the wall? If so, to be able to open the doors and, possibly, interior drawers fully, you will need a few inches b/w the refrigerator and wall --or-- reduce the wall's depth so it's no deeper than the refrigerator's carcass/box. Unless the refrigerator is a built-in refrigerator, the doors must extend past all obstructions (walls, cabinets, counters, etc.). If that's a pantry, then I think your best option would be to reduce the depth of the pantry so the wall is no deeper than the refrigerator box (if it's a standard-depth, then 30" or so; if it's a counter-depth, then 24" or so - check the specs of the refrigerator) If you post a measured layout, you might get even more options from folks here - many think "outside the box" to come up with creative designs. If you would like help or just more options to choose from, then post a layout with the widths of all walls/windows/doors/doorways and the distances b/w the walls/windows/doors/doorways. Indicate where each doorway leads and the swing of the doors. Finally, a full-floor sketch would be very helpful as well. Comments (8)Without the surrounding house, I agree with CPArtist: I can't get my head around the multiple rooms ... so I'm only commenting on the master bath. I don't care for either design. You have approximately 15x9'9 with which to work -- a large space for a bathroom -- yet in both designs you have loads of empty space. Empty space which you must fill with expensive tile, though it will serve no real purpose. Empty space which can feel cold in a bathroom. I really think you either need less space or more stuff. My own bathroom plan is rather similar in size to yours, so I'll share it in hope it'll bring inspiration for using ALL your space: Same amount of space, but you have a LARGE shower (you could go with two shower heads, or you could have towel storage at the far end. I know you didn't have a tub in your master -- lots of people make that choice -- but when they do, they typically go with a large, luxurious shower. This plan adds a linen closet and a sink with plenty of room for drawers. No one ever says, "Oh, I just have too much storage". You also have the option in this space to add a second door to the laundry room, which could be a convenient feature. I'm not going with a toilet-in-a-closet because I just can't get my head around the idea of making the bathroom more complicated and more expensive ... and, at the same time, less functional and more difficult to clean. Here are a couple pictures of similar layouts: I'm not really saying, "You should copy my plan". I'm saying that you should fill your space. Huh, that's what I'm always saying to my photography students: "Fill your frame". Oh, well -- that was off topic. If the above seems really wrong to you, you could downsize the bathroom space -- the picture below could be a large 9' shower, 3' for the toilet and a generous 6' vanity ... while still expand the laundry room on the far right ... or, again, this could be more storage: You could also open a second door straight into that laundry room. But, again, this plan uses ALL your space instead of leaving it open and empty....See MoreHelp Choosing Between These Two Rugs
Comments (19)@User thanks. I think that’s a good idea too. The coffee table and side table were both just kind of afterthoughts as I just pulled out some tables that fit when we got our new sofas (our old coffee and side table were too big). But I definitely think i could get the furniture to fit better if I changed both tables out to round ones (Which is my plan eventually). ETA: This room has always been tough for placing furniture as there is a window and/or door on every single wall. And a large off-centered picture window next to the front door (which is what I usually try to center my furniture on)....See MoreChoosing a siding color for my brick house with siding in the middle
Comments (11)Our brick is very similar to yours. It took me forever to find a siding color I liked with the brick and our gray roof. We ended up with the Repose Gray Maureen posted with white for trim. Repose Gray can read very light on the exterior. We don’t have shutters but black would have been a top choice. This online pic is a very good representation of how Repose Gray (on the siding) can look on the exterior. Much more true-to-life than any pics I have. It was the light, warm gray I wanted....See MoreKaren.1288
