Annie,

You said you were looking for chili sauce recipes to go with your homemade doggies here are some I found on razzledazzlerecipes.com adn thatsmyhome.com. We don't have an A&W here in CT but I think you said you do (on the Lost Love posts) in WI so you might be familiar with their sauce.

I must hang my head in shame and admit that I only like Heinz Ketchup on my wiennies :(

Enjoy! Heidi

A & W Coney Island Sauce

2 small onions, finely chopped

5 pounds hamburger

64 ounces Hunt's Tomato Paste

64 ounces Hunt's Tomato Pur

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

1/3 cup cider vinegar

2 tablespoons chili powder

1 tablespoon pepper

1 tablespoon celery seed

3 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon salt

Brown hamburger and onions in a very large skillet; drain. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 3 1/2 hours, stirring frequently as it will tend to stick.

This freezes very well. To get that authentic taste, use only Kogel franks and rehydrate dry minced onions in boiling water.

Dog 'n' Suds Coney Sauce

1 pound ground beef

2 tablespoons prepared mustard

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1/4 teaspoon Tabasco sauce

1 small onion, chopped

2 tablespoons vinegar

1 tablespoon water

1/4 teaspoon celery seed

Catsup, as needed

In a salted skillet, brown ground beef with onion over medium heat, breaking up meat with a fork to crumble it fine. Drain off fat.

Add remaining ingredients, except catsup. Mix well, then add enough catsup to keep mixture loose.

Simmer, partially covered, 1 hour, adding catsup as needed.

Makes enough sauce for 6 to 8 medium hot dogs.
