Well...I have some Himalayian Zen sea salt in a cube that I grate....a bit of a pain to grate...but.
I have a box of San Francisco Bay sea salt from Pacific Ocean waters, it says...granulated and white with calcium silicate added, and I have some French sea salt ( it says)white in a grinder...product of South Africa...
BUT remember....all salt is sea salt.

I read that regular white sea salt was stripped of minerals. No idea if that's true though! If it is, I guess the salts with minerals left in them would be healthier, even though eating enough salt to benefit from the minerals would probably cause lots of other health problems. :o)

Regular white table salt has been refined and the minerals stripped from it so it is pure sodium chloride unless an anti caking agent has been added.

Yes if you are wanting to buy sea salt..make sure it's unrefined..or you might as well be buying table salt.

I use only Sea Salt..occasionally I'll get the Kosher Flake from Penzey's..but every other day it's Unrefined fine sea salt.

I buy it at the Grocery Food Co-Op best prices.

Often sea salt is sold under Celtic salt too.

I've been buying the McCormick's sea salt grinder up til now, the salt is bright, shiny white. They were out yesterday which is why I decided on the grey. They have other kinds too, Sicilian and something else, can't remember what. I guess I'll have to become a sea salt connoisseur now. :o)

I have some white sea salt, some of the gray stuff and some red hawaiian. The only problem I have is that my salt grinder doesn't make it fine enough and I don't like to get that "hunk" of salt on my food.

Carol (Readinglady) kindly sent me some Fleur de Sel that's so fine it's nearly powdered, so I can have the distinct flavor without those big pieces. I didn't even know they had different consistencies.

I just read that these sea salts should be used as a finishing salt only, that their delicate, unique flavors will be lost otherwise.

Annie, the McCormick grinder grinds very fine, but the grey stuff comes in a little tub, no built-in grinder.
westelle, on the McCormick tub it says it's ideal for cooking or as a finishing touch. Maybe it's not as high of a quality salt as some of the really expensive sea salts?

They probably just want you to use more of it, LOL.

Sea salt is the 99% salt used in my house..in baked goods, in simmering pots..on eggs...
Michael Chiarello uses Gray Sea salt on/in everything. I'm sure it's Fleur de Sel..but that's what's in his salt pig on the counter on his cooking show.

I bought a bottle of tequila once that had a packet of sea salt with it. Never been so sick in my life and never touching sea salt again!

I use Fleur de Sel from Guerande, Brittany in France. This is a truly great sea salt that is best used in finishing as opposed to cooking. I first had it on a seafood dish in Paris and when I asked about the seasonings, the waiter informed me of the sea salt and the name and origin. I purchased some the next day in Paris. I have only been able to find it here in NY City or online. It;s a bit pricey but it really brings out the flavor of everything -- even chocolate -- yep, I use a touch on chocolate desserts and some others, too!

Minette, looks like Amazon has some decent prices on Fleur de Sel.

Regardless of how much a white person cooks or how long they have lived in their current home, they all have a tube of sea salt in their pantry. In fact, it's one of the few foodstuffs that white people will actually bring with them when they move. This is because sea salt is expensive and while white people have money, they didn't get that way by throwing away $7 packages of salt.

When white people think about regular salt, all they can think about sodium and poor health. When they think about Sea Salt they think about France. So it's no surprise that it has become so popular.

But Sea Salt is like Trader Joes, Banksy, or The Shins-entry level to their respective field. Therefore, it is important that you learn about other more expensive salts so that you can complain about not having them. To a white person, this shows that you know and love expensive things but feel sad that you can't yet afford them.

From here you can fill up an entire evening by making the same complaints about art, real estate or Europe.
