I got a surcie from Marigene!!!

First off I sincerely apologize for being late in posting about the extraordinary surprise I received this morning. It was actually delivered late on Saturday and Joe just brought in the mail this morning.

I had just brought in the puppies from a rather short and brisk walk and glanced at the kitchen table and there was my mail, just a few envelopes and a box. Ironically, I was then going to make a quick trip to the store for 1 ingredient for a new cookie recipe I want to try out...LOL! But when I saw Marigene's name on the return address I could not open the box fast enough!!!

I am thrilled beyond THRILLED and rather humbled by your sweet note!!

Marigene said the cookie cutters are in honor of my new puppies, Archie and Eva. I did not have this set although I've been looking at it!!

And the "Cookie Craft; From Baking to Luster Dust" book by Valerie Peterson and Janice Fryer is a new book for me and it is chock full of ideas.

Here's a few pages from the book and the 2nd picture of cookies is made from the cookie cutter set that Margiene bought me! Aren't they cute! I love the Dalmation! The Martini cookie would be great for the Cocktails and Cupcakes Extravaganza, wouldn't it? And the 4th picture of the girls with curls would be so cute for a Sweet 16 Party. So many ideas and so little time! ;))

I am still so surprised!!

Marigene, I just love everything and everything will be used over and over again and again. Your kind gesture is very appreciated. Thank you ever so much!!

Sally, Pat was kind enough to send me a cookbook bt Persian Author Najmieh K. Batmangli called A Taste of Persia Compumom and Anni - recipe follows. I ran two cups of basmati rice through my Nutrimill to grind it into flour. For the recipe you will need 3/4 cup room temp syrup made by boiling 1 1/2 cups sugar with 1/2 cup water. You can save or discard any extra. You will also need 1 cup Ghee. I made this by melting 1 cup butter in a saucepan, covering it and simmering for 18 minutes. Then strain through muslin (I used my yogurt strainer) and cool to just solid. 3 egg yolks 1 Tbsp Sugar 1 cup Ghee or clarified butter 1/2 cup corn oil 1 1/2 tsp cardamon 3 cups rice flour 3/4 cup surup 2 Tbsp Poppy seeds Combine egg yolks and sugar and beat till creamy In another mixing bowl, combine butter, oil, cardamon and flour. Mix well for a few minutes then add yolk mixture and beat for a few seconds. Add the syrup and knead well for a few seconds or until the dough no longer sticks to your hands. Allow the dough to rest for 30 minutes at room temp. Preheat oven to 350. Line baking sheets with parchment. Roll dough into balls the size of hazelnuts, flatten slightly and place on cookie sheet leaving 2" between cookies. Stamp cookies with design using fork (I used a disk from my cookie press) and sprinkle with poppy seeds. Bake 10 - 15 minutes (I did 12 in my Miele on convection). Cookies should still be white or very slightly colored when done. Allow to cool and carefully remove from trays. They crumble VERY easily. NUSH-E-JAN! (which I think is Persian for Bon Appetite - I will ask SIL)

What a cool gift! I bought Cookie Craft before the holidays and it is truly WONDERFUL! I learned so many simple but successful tips about decorating cookies and my granddaughters and I had a blast baking and decorating. The 3 basic recipes are all excellent and the decorating techniques really work! I went back and bought another copy for a friend who also loves to bake, because I was so impressed with this book. Good choice, Marigene!

You are very welcome, Michelle. Wow, that was fast...I didn't think you would get the package until Monday. As soon as I got that book and started going through it, I immediately thought of you and just had to order another one. We are all waiting to see how you decorate those cut-out cookies! You really are an inspiration when it comes to baking/decorating cookies.

I am still so surprised and thrilled with my gifts from Marigene.

Last night I read the book a little more and the recipes and tips for decorating are very good! Some of the tips are....DUH, why didn't I think of that! The instruction on creating windowpanes is so easy and logical and I can't wait to try making Windowpane cookies.
