Surcie from Michelle

I received a surcie from Michelle late Friday but haven't had a chance to post until today. She sent me a great chocolate treat maker, with two little pots. It is to melt and dip chocolates in. There are several chocolate molds, too, but they didn't photograph very well. Some of the molds can be used to make lollipops. And some wonderful handmade potholders. Thank you so very much, Michelle! I will be testing out dipping chocolates this coming week and have already used the potholders.

How nice! I got some of those pot holders also last September. I love them. The only problem is...they are too beautiful to get dirty!!! But they sure look pretty hanging in my kitchen. LOL

This is cool. I think we're on to something. Maybe next swap should be a roving box...somebody starts it, maybe puts in two things and sends it to the next person. That person chooses one and replaces it and sends it along to the next...hmmmm.... Anyway, Ann, that's definitely not a screw up. I think it worked out very well. I'm a big fan of biscotti and almost sent some in my package. These look good. I know you'll enjoy that cookbook, and hopefully you've already enjoyed the wine. Jazzed, that was super sweet of you to add something and send it along.

Annie, thank you for the lovely posting. I didn't even know you'd done that. And do be sure to keep the winter conserve for yourself. You deserve it. Thanks everyone also for the kind remarks. Who knew barbecuing salmon could be so dangerous? I turned away from the grill, tripped on a power cord strung across the patio and slammed into the concrete full-force and full-face. Nothing broken, thank goodness, but needless to say I'm not a pretty sight with some good scrapes and a black eye. My brother says I look like "Phantom of the Opera." Thankfully I am not hosting Thanksgiving this year, so I sent hubby off with the 23-pound turkey (brined in apple cider, salt, brown sugar, cloves, peppercorns and thyme), the gravy, and a banoffee cheesecake from Nigella Lawson (banana cheesecake with a caramel-cream sauce). I am just not up for company right now but seeing this post was a nice treat. The measuring cup and the chopstick helpers come from Fred (that's the company). He has lots of quirky products. LOL, LInda and Sherry, I also have some of Michelle's potholders on "display" in my kitchen! Aren't they great?

Ohiomom, I think Michelle told me she uses some kind of heat proof filler....

Marigene, So happy you liked my surprise!!! I had been looking for a small chocolate maker for a while now and most are just so big and only have 1 pan. When I found this one, I just had to get one for you too!

I love working with chocolate but it is difficult while at the stove and dripping chocolate on the burner, on the stovetop and down the front of the range. It will be so much easier to just have the melted chocolate handy in your work area.

Linda, the potholders are made with Silence Cloth but unfortunately it is now discontinued. Silence Cloth is an excellent heat resistent fabric. It was carried by Hancock Fabrics and I bought all I could in my area. You can still buy Silence Cloth at Vogue Fabrics but it's about 25% more then it was at Hancock. If you have a Hancock Fabrics you can probably still find it as it is not a big seller.

But the best kind of filling for potholders is felted wool. Just buy some scraps of heavy weight wool, if you can't find any heavy weight wool, just double some medium weight scraps. Wash the wool in hot water, no need for any detergent, and then dry it in a hot dryer which will felt the wool. I usually use wool but most of my wool is still in storage in the barn.

Annie, Linda and Sherry, the potholders are made to be used and you should use them! I still have the first ones I made and that has to be at least 18 years ago. And the only damage is on one where I caught the edge on fire while at the outside grill!

Oh Michell, I KNOW they are meant to be used. It is just so hard when something is tht pretty. I would be afraid I would catch it on fire at the gas range.
Perhaps I will get them out and use them when I have company, LOL. Does that make me a "Barbie Doll?"
I wish I knew how to make something like that. I love quilts. Just love them. I have wanted to make one my whole life and still haven't. Michelle, you just make everything look so easy. I don't have those talents.
Marigene, use those darn pot holders. I want Michelle to keep making them, LOL.

That is way cool!

Sherry, I made a lot of things during my sewing years, even won two blue ribbons at the fair. But, my one and only quilting attempt left me traumatized.

i too was graced with michelle's generosity this week. love the things she sent you.

i have used the (potholders) as hot pads. everyone always comments on them. and yes, it's great to be so talented and michelle's talents have no end.
