There's just no end to Michelle's generosity

as if sending marigene a package this week wasn't enough, michelle graced me with a box of goodies.

i did post on the pizza thread the lovely platter that came in so handy for my cinnamon buns, but here it is in all it's glory. i do believe this is my very first square platter!

check out my very own cake pan. a few months back i had discovered there was a pan out there named after me (i really think it came before me, but what the heck). apparently my dear friend paid attention when i talked that day!

then there's a wonderful assortment of valentine day cake and cookie toppings and little pinch bowls in valentine colors and two of the wonderful hotpads that michelle makes.

michelle my dear friend, i love when you think about me - i see a box on my porch with your return address and i'm thrilled before i even open it. then once i do, i'm even more thrilled!

We enjoyed hosting. It was a pleasure having you all here. I love all of my new garden warming presents...the best part of which is that they last forever (if I don't kill them)and will always remind me of all of you guys. Tootsie is exhausted after walking the yard and investigating every new plant (no kidding). There's nothing better than walking through the garden and having good memories everywhere I look. I'm only sorry it ended so soon... I was so busy I did not get a chance to spend much time with everyone. However, I know there will always be a next time :-)

#1- I never said she sits on her backside all day. I said or rather suggested that she should tend it during the shutdown. As I recall, the kitchen garden was started as an example that people should be growing their own organic gardens and eating healthy foods. This was Mrs. Obama's social policy issue. I support this issue. It's similar to Eleanor Roosevelt's victory garden. Let the lawn grow or the roses black spot, but save the food. #2 I didn't say she should take care of it by herself. Since it is on the White House lawn it must look nearly perfect. It must function as a show garden for the tourists. She needs assistance to achieve that level of grooming. #3 I know that they occasionally harvest the garden during events while wearing nice clothes. I do not know the total extent of their actual involvement in the garden, but if Mrs. Obama and her children had worked in the garden during the shutdown, it would not have looked as bad as it did. If she truly viewed the garden as her own, she would have gone out there and tended it while the workers were furloughed. A photo op of them working in the garden during the furlough would have really been an inspiration. The source of this story is not "the extreme right wing." The blog that first reported it is devoted to following The White House social scene. The blogger covers the Presidential dinners, events, recipes, gardening, fashion, and stuff like that. I gather from her posts that she really likes the Obamas. According to the blog everything is perfect again in the garden. I don't want to get away from the gardening aspect of my post since this is gardening forum, but since you brought it up I'm not a right wing extremist or left wing extremist. I'm not much of a vanilla political moderate either. I like to make my own observations and form my own opinions about things. It doesn't really do anything for my popularity, but I have become fond of forming my own thoughts.

Marigene, So happy you liked my surprise!!! I had been looking for a small chocolate maker for a while now and most are just so big and only have 1 pan. When I found this one, I just had to get one for you too! I love working with chocolate but it is difficult while at the stove and dripping chocolate on the burner, on the stovetop and down the front of the range. It will be so much easier to just have the melted chocolate handy in your work area. Linda, the potholders are made with Silence Cloth but unfortunately it is now discontinued. Silence Cloth is an excellent heat resistent fabric. It was carried by Hancock Fabrics and I bought all I could in my area. You can still buy Silence Cloth at Vogue Fabrics but it's about 25% more then it was at Hancock. If you have a Hancock Fabrics you can probably still find it as it is not a big seller. But the best kind of filling for potholders is felted wool. Just buy some scraps of heavy weight wool, if you can't find any heavy weight wool, just double some medium weight scraps. Wash the wool in hot water, no need for any detergent, and then dry it in a hot dryer which will felt the wool. I usually use wool but most of my wool is still in storage in the barn. Annie, Linda and Sherry, the potholders are made to be used and you should use them! I still have the first ones I made and that has to be at least 18 years ago. And the only damage is on one where I caught the edge on fire while at the outside grill! Michelle

It all looks wonderful, how very sweet of you Michelle.

I got a Maryanne pan in the gift exchange at Paney Camp but haven't used it yet. I'd love to make a yellow cake and fill it with lemon curd but I'm clueless about how much batter to use. I haven't made a cake in 25 years. So if you try a yellow cake in your namesake pan please share the recipe.

I love all of the red and white gifts too - so happy looking.

Honestly Marianne, your surcie has been sitting here for over a month in fact since right after Christmas. And I should probably not be telling you this but I could not find a darn box to fit the platter. Even though the platter is not that big it is square and boxes are rectangular!! After this I am beginning to think Jessy's method of finding the box and then filling it, is the right way to go!!

I have the platter and use it all the time, maybe some of you recognize it? I don't know if it's the shape or the color or maybe both but baked goods look so good on it...they just seem to POP. While Christmas shopping I found another platter and picked it up for Maryanne.

The Maryann Pan well Maryanne is right she did say she was on the hunt for one. I tried to find one with Maryann with an "E" but they don't make it...LOL!!

The potholders I've promised for 6 months now and I'm so sorry they are so late.

It's so fun sending goodies to friends. And it's even better when you know how much they appreciate it.

Great gifts. I have that same Maryann pan and love it. I made a (shhhhhhhh) cake mix several times in it. The white cake I filled with fresh fruit and whipped cream, and the chocolate I filled with caramel and pecans and drizzled chocolate over the top.
Lee, any cake recipe that I have tried (yes, I made "real" cake in it also) fit in the pan.
Michelle, you are very generous. Maryann, enjoy your booty!

Michelle, your generosity doesn't surprise me one bit! You make the prettiest pot holders. Maryanne, how cool is that to have a pan named after your! It IS named after YOU, isn't it? The platter is beautiful, I love the swirly designs and it will surely make anything you put on there look tasty. What nice gifts! That platter is gorgeous! Like Chase, I've never heard of a Maryann pan. What is it? We sure have some generous people on this forum, and Michelle is definitely one of them! Maryanne, it looks like you have some fun time baking ahead.

ROFL Michelle about the 'box' truth. I can't tell you how many times I swore and cussed a blue streak about find boxes for swap items!

i was googling for some recipes for this particular pan and found a chocolate cake with a ganache topping. that looks like what i am going to do with it. i'll post when i attempt it. it will also be a wonderful pan come summer months for fresh fruit topping.

sally, it's a fluted plan and has a "dip" in the center where you can put a filing of cream and fruit or whatever you please. i think sometimes when i see them, it's more of a sping-like cake that's made in them, but i'm more than willing to try it out for any type cake.
