Thanks for the heads-up on that.

I've resorted to just buying Rubbermaid at my local grocery store, as I need it for whatever I need it for. It's cheaper, there are no shipping charges AND you get it right then and there.

You should see however, how much Tupperware I have! Holy Goodness, over the years I've collected so much.

shaun thanks for the rubbermaid tip...however, I like to store the sugar, flour etc in stackable containers in the pantry and although the shipping is high, I think it is my best bet.

I'm even cheaper--I go to the bar supply store and buy deli containers--they end up being about 10-12 cents each, all the sizes (1 cup, 1 pint, 1 quart) use the same lids, they all nest for easy storage. I put them through the dishwasher, and reuse them, but at that price, you don't mind tossing one when it gets funky.

You do have to be careful about brands--some deli containers aren't good for freezer use, but if you can find the Reynolds ones, they're fine. I use them all the time to freeze soups, sauces, leftover pasta, etc.

I save our deli containers from my market and reuse them. The lids are very tight and they freeze just fine. Also, some of the Chinese Takeout Soup containers are great!

Azelea: What do you store your 5 lb of flour in? Or your sugar? nothing is big enough.

Related question: does Tupperware, or Rubbermaid, or anyone make a two quart pitcher that has an airtight lid? I've searched high and low for this and can't find it. I have some old Rubbermaid pitchers with screw on lids that (originally) were airtight, they're old and have lost the perfect seal. I've tried several different kinds of pitchers for replacement but they all leak when shaken.

Flour and sugar are stored in Johnson's Caramel Popcorn tubs (if you've ever been to OC, NJ, you know what I'm talking about--LOL). I've got a ton of those.

If you need plastic tubs for flour/sugar, you can usually get them free or for a dollar or two from your local bakery, diner or deli--they get a lot of foods in those, almost always have them and want to get rid of them.

For flours, sugars, etc., I use these containers (link below) from The Container Store, or restaurant suppliers. I find them to be very reasonably priced & very sturdy. In fact, I have some that are over 15 years & holding up so well that I've not needed to replace anyone of them to date. However, I continue to add to my collection in various sizes as the need arises.

I also recycle the deli type containers all the time for all kinds of purposes, as well as freeze in them w/o any problems whatsoever.

Forgot to mention that there clear, which I find is an added bonus. A quick glance I can see what needs replenishing.

I store all my baking supplies in Tupperware, the newest piece is about 12 years old and still in perfect condition. I store the flour in the 10 lb flour canisters (speckled) that I got about 15 years ago. I haven't bought anything from Tupperware in about 8 years, I have everything I need and most of it lasts forever. Of course, that does not mean I haven't seen things that I would like to buy, but my cabinets overfloweth!

A friend who was just starting out begged me to have a tupperware party so she could get her sales kit or something. I figured I'd get a freebie and a gadget and wound up with a ton of the stuff. Maybe it was the big box of cheap wine, hehe. I put most of my credit into modular mates, spice containers (ugly but very functional) and freezer containers. I doubt if I would've spent the money on them, but I like them a lot. I've been using them for years (I think modular mates had just come out) and the only problem has been breakage when I drop a full, frozen freezer container.

My best yard sale find was a big round container that holds 15 lbs. of flour for $1. That thing has to be 30 or 40 years old and still seals beautifully.

I've got one of these and I think it is at least 25 yrs old and I use mine for extra flour too! And I wish I had 2 of them!

For my AP flour and sugar I use rectangular containers from the container store. The largest 1 holds 10 lbs of flour and is perfect for my flour/sugar drawer in my baking center.

I am a Tupperware consultant. Tupperware is the best. Tupperware is more expensive than other plastics but it's safer and it lasts! You can use the microwave containers and plastic won't leach into your food. You can keep your fruits & vegi's fresh for up to 2/3 weeks longer, like like broccolli, strawberries, lettuce ect. in Fridgsmart! Our Modular Mate containers keep those little kitchen pests out of your food....once you have one they go from food product to food product unless there in Tupperware; nothing get's out and nothing gets in :o)

Have any questions, want to earn free Tupperware, or want to join my team and make money instead? Feel free to email me. Please check out my web site to see what's new and on sale!

Hey got any spam with that tupperware?

Michelle and Lucy ...how many quarts is 5lb? puleeze.

I've switched to Rubbermaid too. Last time I tried to buy Tupperware I wanted more of some basic containers I bought years ago and found Tupperware no longer offered them. I ended up with the goofy microwave bowls with the flip up vent in the cover - and the big bulge that goes down on the inside. Fip tops broke off and the whole experience just made me not want Tupperware anymore. I used to really like it. Now I'm pretty happy with Rubbermaid.

Lowspark: to answer your question, I don't know if they still make them but Tupperware did have a leak proof 2 quart pitcher. I have two, slightly different styles as I bought them a few years apart. I probably wouldn't hold them upside down for any length of time, but they don't leak with normal use.

Msazadi,

I'll take a look when I get home later, don't recall off hand.

Our flour is in a container like the ones lucyny linked to. Our Domino sugar comes in a 4-lb. plastic canister. Everything else is in Chinese restaurant soup containers. Our only Tupperware is some garage sale stuff that I use for motorcycle parts in the shed.
