I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work. Have you tried sending him an email and having him reply?

i did email him and i am sure he got it. i assume that he was sending me a reply tho it may have been a new email vs reply to my email not sure really.

seems strange, i really don't expect anyone to say oh new zealand, no they can't email the usa!

Why don't both of you open a new email account, Opera, AOL, Windows Live, etc...? There are a lot of choices. Something has changed on his computer. He may have unintentionally clicked your address into a spam filter.

i have lots of email accounts at various places. i gave him 2 new addresses to try.

the problem is that he can't send me email, it bounces back to him as a problem, like he spelled the address incorrectly. honestly i do know know the error message. the email that i sent to him went to him ok, he got it and is trying to reply. spam is incoming no? it's his ability to send email to me. he told me the address he used and it is correct. i never saw anything like this.

If he's typing it in instead of replying, he's probably mistyping. And he's probably telling you what he typed and it sounds right. I've had problems typing something correctly when getting it over the phone because some letters sound much alike when spoken (especially on the phone) and this could be exacerbated when one of you speaks American English and the other New Zealand English.

Tom perhaps someone on your ISP's server has been sending large volumes of Spam and his service provider has blacklisted that server. Have your friend open a returned email and read what they say, he may have a problem understanding much of it but somewhere in all the gibberish is the reason he is having his emails bounced.

A company called SORBS (and others) got into this and offer the service to ISPs as a way of combating Spam. Sort of heavy handed as it affects all clients on that server if it has been blacklisted

I am quite convinced if you are e-mailing him successfully and if he has used the Reply option in his e-mail client unsuccessfully the e-mail failure is on his end alone. I do like the thought of the server being blacklisted.

Do you have someone who is not using your ISP who could act as a portal to forward the messages to you?

i went to the link and read a bit. seems att will not accept emails from his isp or server. he does have my email address correct, i removed it above and replaced it with "myemailaddressremoved from here".

what's going on in new zealand that att blocks emails from there?

Simple, the server in question has been allowing large volumes of Spam. The owners of the server have failed to stop the spammer and have probably been warned over the issue but failed to act so other folks are blacklisting them until they clean up their act.

Really you should be pleased you ISP is protecting you. I realise your contact with the person in NZ is suffering but he needs to harass his ISP to get them cleaning up the problem.

thanks. oh i agree i am glad att is protecting me. i have a way to communicate with him at a bulletin board we read. this is how we met. we were a bit nervous to say certain things using the bb email system as i think the administrator/owner of the bb might be able to read our emails. some of the things we wanted to discuss were about him so we decided to take it to our email clients vs the bb email. i can email him but he can't reply so i guess we are stuck. i gave him 2 other email addresses i use but they did not allow his email to come thru either, is that cuz i am using my isp? one was google mail, seems att doesn't block email i get at gmail just cuz i am on att network... does it? based upon the blocking i decided that maybe it was for the better to not use regular email.

Can he set up an account at one of the places that offer free email? There are a number of them, but yahoo, gmail and hotmail come to mind off the top of my head.

Not so! If you use gmail by going to the actual website, ATT will have no reason to look at the email addresses. Same with Yahoo or Windows Live (formerly Hotmail). He could even establish a new email address like bpgreen suggested and should be able to email you at your ATT account.
