message board emails

i am on many different message boards. some have pm (private message) communications between members. can the adminstrator of a message board read our pm's that are sent to each other via his message board? are those pm's secure or can he read what we send to each other if he wanted to?

No electronic communications (emails) are totally private. You'll see that in the EULA anytime you install software or sign up for accounts. The admin of a forum or board can definitely read the mail. They may not choose to do that, but they do have access.

You could use encryption software, but I really have zero experience with that.

You might find a simple solution to this problem by both installing something like Skype. Then you can either actually talk to each other with a mic or headset or you can type your messages back and forth as you do now. You can also send files and photos. I realise you may be 12 to 16 hours different in time zones but it is another option to your dilemma.

Lovemysheltie, your Arbour swing is going to be spectacular surrounded by roses - we're all looking forward to the pictures! For clematis, if you want quicker results, and a gazillion blooms, viticellas are a good choice, as athenainwi said (and my favourite is also Venosa Violacea which you can see in the lower left of the photo). They fill out well and rarely suffer clematis wilt. Type II's are much slower, in general, to establish, and, in my experience, are prone to clematis wilt. There are some very beautiful ones though. I believe it's better to plant type III's with roses, since they are pruned low every year, and it's fairly easy to just rip out the old vines in the early spring before the roses leaf out. Type II's, while they should be hard-pruned the first couple of years to generate more stems, will still need trimming of the dead tips in the spring even when you've left them unpruned. That will be more difficult to do, and also trying to prune out a winter-killed rose cane without damaging your clem will be very tricky. I've got 2 Perle D'Azurs planted on each side of an arbour with New Dawn (which I'm pretty sure is really Dr. Van Fleet). They pretty much completely covered the spring roses LOL I'll have to move one of them if I ever want to see those lovely pink blooms again! Judith (sorry about the blurry picture)

I looked at the "full header" and it's a page of stuff. How can one determine if it's a concern? I do know not to click on hyperlinks like that but I worry about all her other friends who write to her who don't know that. What advice can I give her other than to send an email to everyone who might contact her today/tomorrow etc and alert them? She did say she just deleted about 1,000 emails, could that have anything to do with it? Is this just a random act and not likely to happen again or might it continue to happen when I email her? I don't know WOT but will look into it and most likely install it as I trust any advice you give. Thanks, Ginny

They do need to check it. And most people have not enabled messaging-- I just looked at several of the HD regulars' profiles. I bet they're not even aware of it. You'll get an email saying you have a message. Otherwise there's no notification on GW itself to show you have a message. But it's not fool-proof--I had a month-old message that I never got an email for.

18 hours!

ya i figured that it was possible for an admin to read private messages. ah, here's a solution - go to a different bulletin board and communicate with that bb's pm or em software. whatever we discuss would be useless to any admin as they would have no idea who or what we were talking about. actually i think this makes the most sense. this thread is an off shoot of the international email thread. now to find a neutral site.

I have been a primary admin and global moderators on many forums, there are a lot of different types of software that run forums so not all are alike. On all that I have been admin on we were able to see any email that was sent through the forum itself, if the forum has a button that says send email to this user and it actually uses the forum to send it then generally there is an area where the admin can see those if they choose to. Now if you email each other using your email address directly then no those are not viewable by the forum admin.
As far as private messages go those were not viewable on any of the types of forums I was admin on. Which is what I think you are asking about. However if it is a privately owned forum with their own server, and not one of the freebie type forums, that could be different. Who ever has access to the server could of course hypothetically have access to what ever is on it.

The best practice is never trust the typed word which has been released into the vast internet to be safe and secure, because you just never know!
