AVG users bad update

This happened a few days ago. Some may be seeing the result and not know why it is happening to them,it leaves machines in a continuous reboot loop..

Horror AVG update

systems to go into an infinite crash loop.

at first they thought it only affected windows 7 64bit now it seems any 64bit. However in some of the replies on their forums some people with xp also claim issues, also some with vista 32bit sp2 claim it happened to them.

Seems this has happened more than once with AVG in the past year. This is bound to cost them subscribers.

No problems noted here with my 32bit system. Running Vista Home Premium SP2.

It's perfectly safe to update from the pop up. Try it, that may end the problem. IF you mean that every time you visit the GardenWeb you have to login, next time you login scroll down a bit and you'll see the little box that you need the place a check in that will save your credentials so you don't have to keep typing it in every time you visit. If you use Ccleaner or something similar it may clear out your user name and password but all you'll have to do is place a check in that box again to be remembered.

For those who aren't thrilled with Link Scanner or those who may just want to see how well AVG operates without it, it is not necessary to delete and reinstall. Double click on the icon appearing in the Notification Area/System Tray>In the appearing interface double click on the Link Scanner component>Uncheck the Enable the AVG Search-Shield (need web browser restart)>Click Save changes. I do not remember if a restart is required. I am sure AVG will advise if necessary. DA

Thanks so much for letting us know. I was getting an error messages that said "Connection to the update server has failed". I wasn't sure if it was AVG or my computer. I'll wait until it's fixed and try again. Dee

Windows Vista 64-bit here, and no problems.

I do keep getting a notice to update to AVG Canada 2011, however, but I haven't done it. It doesn't seem to be a usual update.

I just googled AVG Canada 2011 and got this page on the AVG info site

are you using the free AVG or the full AVG suite?

Raven, I'm using the free AVG 9. I figured the 2011 must be a paid-version only; but they say they also have a free version. Not being sure what to do, I did nothing.

I got AVG Free Edition 2011 earlier this week and its working fine on XP SP3.
