Freeze or not freeze choc chip cookies?

I baked the chocolate chip cookies on Wed (today) and won't serve until Sunday (4-5 days). Is it better to just keep it in a sealed container or is it better to freeze it and take it out on the day of party? I froze an apple pie and plan to bake it on the party day. Is it best to let it thaw out for a couple hrs before baking?

Personally I would freeze them. I think they will taste old after 2 or 3 days.

I made chocolate chip cookies on Sunday and they were starting to get dry last night (Weds). If I want to keep cookies for a later date, I freeze them. Just put them in a well-sealed container.

Trudy, I send my mom chocolate chip cookies and lemon blueberry bread all the time in the Summer from NC to Pa with no problems. The bread I double wrap in foil and place in a zip lock bag. The cookies either in a tin or wrapped in plastic in a shoe box! The keep nice and fresh. Gina

Freezing cookies question

I've had very good luck freezing cookies. There are a few types that wouldn't freeze well, but most do. I freeze crisp cookies and they do stay crisp. I've also frozen all kinds of bar cookies, rugelach, filled cookies. I can't speak to soft cakelike cookies because I generally don't make those. The cookies that do best are butter cookies, like shortbread, but they also keep well at room temperature. The important things, if you're freezing baked cookies are 1) Make sure they are thoroughly cooled. 2) Don't mix cookies in the container because the flavors will mingle and the crisp cookies will soften if they are packed with moist ones. 3) Make sure the container is as airtight as possible. I like cookie tins, which I line with wax paper. I also put wax paper between layers of cookies. Cookies will keep a long time in the freezer but six weeks is probably the limit for optimal quality. If the container isn't quite airtight, cookies will stale and may pick up "off" flavors. Carol

IÂm sorry to report that IÂve taken a serious break from the Chocolate Chip Cookie quest. The journey has cost me pounds of butter, sugar, and weight, only to realize that each individualÂs pursuit is unique and personal i.e. "my cookie may not be your cookie." That said, IÂm enjoying reading everyoneÂs success and that picture is enough to make me rethink the issue, Jo. Confession: I grew up on Crisco cookies (with the Â½ tsp. Water), with enough cookie to match chocolate, puffy yet chewy, etc., and I loved them. I now make "Marvelous Marble Squares" from my old "The Happy Cooker" Jewish cookbook, which are butter based, chocolate chips swirled on top baked in jelly roll pan. I'd leave out the chocolate chips :-) But that's just me - not a big chocolate fan and I seriously reduce the amount of chips when I do make choc chip cookies. And I always use dried cranberries (craisins) when I bake except for cranberry orange bread so no need to freeze. But cranberry oatmeal cookies are wonderful!!

I made and froze chocolate chip cookies one year for Christmas. I didn't like the texture of the cookies at all after they thawed! I opted, next time, to bake them the day before the party.

You'll be fine.. a few weeks are good..or you can always make the dough, drop in balls and freeze, then bag..then bake when you need to.

Freeze the cookies. Put the pie straight in the oven from the freezer.

Properly stored, butter-based cookies will stay fresh for WEEKS at room temp.

I used to work in a very expensive bakery. We baked all our Christmas cookies the Monday after Thanksgiving. The cookies were stored in cardboard box bottoms--one flavor to a box--and the boxes were slid into large plastic bags and twist-tied. The cookies were still perfectly fresh weeks later (I know, I ate a LOT of them--LOL).

No need to freeze them if you're using them Sunday and you have them stored in an air-tight container.

azzalea -- that is interesting.

My MIL worked at a restaurant (diner type) and told me they baked potatoes and served them for the next three days.
