Best way to send picture in Christmas email

I'd like to send my Christmas letter via email this year. I'd like to include a couple of pictures. Is there a way that I can do this which would allow most people to view it?

The ideal would be for the picture to just appear in the email without having to click on a link to go somewhere else since I think many people hesitate to "go somewhere else." I'd also like the picture to be a large as possible.

Make the letter interesting and they will be willing to open the attachment or click the link to where the pictures are hosted, not all E-Mails will support doing what you suggest and even if yours did the recipient's may not.

Yes...I meat flickr. I am not real familiar with Photobucket but it looks like in order to show an image inline you need to copy the "HTML Tag - Websites & Blogs" text. The one with "[IMG]" is for other forum software. Here you need to enter the HTML directly. (I note that Nell added another tip while I was typing) For years I just used the web space that my ISP provides. It is a bit of a pain because I had to use FTP software to get the file up there and then write the HTML code to show the image. If you really want to learn HTML, w3schools.com has some fairly easy pages about Images and Links. One of the things to think about with flickr is that once you post a picture with a link back to the full size image people can browse your entire gallery of photos. A few ways we've found to help. If there's a Ronald McDonald House in your area, they generally have a program for volunteers to make and donate dinners for the families who are staying there, so they can be near their children in the hospital. I bet your local baby AIDS hospice could use some extra help. One Christmas we contacted the director for the ages of each of the children there--we bought each one an outfit, a toy, and made each a stocking. These poor babies not only were born with a potential death sentence but most have been abandoned by their families. Rather than giving to random strangers, you no doubt KNOW someone who really needs help--in this economy, it's not hard to find a family where the parents have lost their jobs, or who has medical problems that have depleted their savings, or a senior citizen who has been widowed and is not not just struggling financially but lonely as well. Buy a couple of gift cards (things like the grocery store, Target, Walmart, etc where you can buy assorted things--food, outerwear, OTC meds, etc), and drop them in the mail 'from a friend'. I personally don't do good deeds for the 'thank you'--I prefer to do those thing anonymously, so your concern about that wouldn't figure into my plans. If you do decide to give to an organized charity, the Salvation Army uses a very high percentage of the money they take in for their good work, and much less than others for operating costs and salaries. However, DH and I generally try to give directly to those we encounter who definitely need a little help. This year we know a young couple where one partner has had several health issues and as a result, lost their job, the other can't cover all their expenses with their salary. They're very, very proud people, though, and don't want to ask or receive help. It's a challenge to think of a way to help them, without them feeling hurt.

I have found on pc's that needed a real cleanup , hotmail was the biggest culprit. Spam forwarder par excellance. Yahoo is decent and a must for at least on "throwaway" account. I use that one for filling in forms, etc. where I don't want to hear back from a company, etc. I have a separate email account for friends, one for family (Thunderbird) and another Yahoo for business contacts. Thunderbird is a great email program and on pain of death, no one in my family would dare forward anything to me. I have taught them if it is something that NEEDS to be forwarded, they will address the mail to themselves and use BCC to all recipients. Keeps other people's email addresses from prying soammers.

Thank you for posting this. We have an Army Ranger in Afganistan that will be spending Christmas away from friends and family this year. Over the years I have found different email software has different ways of sending it. I have Windows Live mail 2009 and I use insert. You can size it in the mail by clicking on layout. My sis and I send photos to each other all the time.

Unfortunately many email systems block pictures and other attachments, especially on mobile devices.

If you want to create a document and maintain formatting, a cross platform format like PDF is you best bet. If people don't want to download the attachment, there's not much you can do about that. Or just send an ordinary Christmas card with a postage stamp. ;-)

Emma, I would suggest you do not update your Live mail because newer versions (mine at least) do not offer that feature. We can attach but not insert. Yahoo does not seem to offer the option either. My Outlook program does though.

I guess Zep has the right idea.

Since there doesn't seem to be any one sure way that will work for everyone, why not just create a Photobucket album (or someplace similar) and send the URL of it.

I know some folks I send URLS to, find the links are not clickable. I've also been told that they were not able to copy and paste the URL either. One friend just totally doesn't know how to copy and paste and doesn't seem to want to learn...says it just makes her 'nervous' to try. I've just given up on sharing much via emails with those who are so computer challenged.

Oh...the one who said she wasn't able to copy and paste a URL I sent, was a link to an item on Amazon. I'm thinking she just didn't know how to do it.

I agree. I host the photos online some where that let's me but borders and such around them then send the link in email. A few people I know use online mail and can't see stuff right in the email so would have to save them to the desktop.

Picture trail is nice and will let you create a private album that you can customize and then password it and then just give the email recipeints the password to view the photos if you dont want to make them plubic domain. Mary
