Best way to send picture in Christmas email

I'd like to send my Christmas letter via email this year. I'd like to include a couple of pictures. Is there a way that I can do this which would allow most people to view it?

The ideal would be for the picture to just appear in the email without having to click on a link to go somewhere else since I think many people hesitate to "go somewhere else." I'd also like the picture to be a large as possible.

Make the letter interesting and they will be willing to open the attachment or click the link to where the pictures are hosted, not all E-Mails will support doing what you suggest and even if yours did the recipient's may not.

Thanks Zep, I was afraid that was still a problem with sending pictures.

Well, I am still one of those without my personal e-mail addy listed on my member page, but can have e-mail sent to me through GW. In the past, I have had my addy listed and have had serious problems with spam mail that comes from other forums on GW. Since I post on quite a few of the other forums on GW, I found that some of them do have their fair share of spam type posts; advertising for various websites, products etc. When my e-mail addy was available for anyone to see, these posts would pop up on these other GW forums and within an hour or so I would have the spam coming to my e-mail box about the product, site etc. Once I realized where all this spam was coming from, I removed my addy from my member page, and that was the end of the spam coming from here. Hope you all understand why I no longer have my e-mail addy available to see, but as I said, you can send it through GW and I would say that 95% of the time I don't have a problem getting it. Fran

breen, I see what you mean...nothing on that form b4 hitting submit. I wonder if that might take you to a next page or something. I did not try it...not having an 'extra' email addy to try my theory. My guess is that after clicking submit there is something else to fill out...if one chooses to. I to see lots of newbies with no email link...but I also see them too with no email link but they do have a garden zone or state abbreviation behind their name. Here is my 'canned' reply to a lot of newbie traders not set up right. Welcome to Garden Web! I thought you might like to know that there is no way to email you they way your preferences are set. I suggest you go to the bottom of any page here and click on 'Member Pages'. then Edit Preferences. Then using the drop down box, set it to show your email addy to Members only. then check the box to allow others to email you via the forms here at GW. That will place a link on your member page so folks can reach you. You might also want to (while you are there) fill in your gardening zone, and your state abbreviation. I for one (and some others too)prefer to trade some things (plants anyway) with members that are maybe 400 miles away, as opposed to 1000-2000 or more. Often if I can't tell where someone is located, I just don't reply to threads started by traders....rather than turning someone down later. Happy gardening and trading! I do not use Live as my main email account but you can attach photos individually. Seems odd that they cannot be inserted as you would like. However if you attach them you could then refer to each photo by name and add your comments that way. Not as nice perhaps but it does offer a solution perhaps. Send an email to yourself using that method to see how it looks for you.

Over the years I have found different email software has different ways of sending it. I have Windows Live mail 2009 and I use insert. You can size it in the mail by clicking on layout. My sis and I send photos to each other all the time.

Unfortunately many email systems block pictures and other attachments, especially on mobile devices.

If you want to create a document and maintain formatting, a cross platform format like PDF is you best bet. If people don't want to download the attachment, there's not much you can do about that. Or just send an ordinary Christmas card with a postage stamp. ;-)

Emma, I would suggest you do not update your Live mail because newer versions (mine at least) do not offer that feature. We can attach but not insert. Yahoo does not seem to offer the option either. My Outlook program does though.

I guess Zep has the right idea.

Since there doesn't seem to be any one sure way that will work for everyone, why not just create a Photobucket album (or someplace similar) and send the URL of it.

I know some folks I send URLS to, find the links are not clickable. I've also been told that they were not able to copy and paste the URL either. One friend just totally doesn't know how to copy and paste and doesn't seem to want to learn...says it just makes her 'nervous' to try. I've just given up on sharing much via emails with those who are so computer challenged.

Oh...the one who said she wasn't able to copy and paste a URL I sent, was a link to an item on Amazon. I'm thinking she just didn't know how to do it.

I agree. I host the photos online some where that let's me but borders and such around them then send the link in email. A few people I know use online mail and can't see stuff right in the email so would have to save them to the desktop.

Picture trail is nice and will let you create a private album that you can customize and then password it and then just give the email recipeints the password to view the photos if you dont want to make them plubic domain. Mary
