Help with appliances. Wolf vs Thermador pro

I am having a hard time deciding on appliances

This is what I'm considering, any help is appreciated

Wolf 36" range

Bosch DW

Bosch Refrigerator

Ventahood

Thermador Range, DW, Hood, Refrigerator .

Thermador is having a special if you buy a range and fridge you get a DW and Hood.

I love the Wolf range and am pairing it with Bosch for the rest of the appliances to save money. Sub zero fridge is crazy expensive.

Option #3 GE full Viking kitchen, Option #4 Ge monogram kitchen

I figure they will all run around 15K.

Please help me decide.

For resale the only brand the makes a difference is Sub-Zero. Many people strongly prefer SZ to other built-ins. Look at resale value on craigslist of SZ vs other built in fridges and compare that to resale value of Wolf ranges/ovens to other pro-style ranges/ovens. If your neighborhood has mostly built-in fridges then not have one will ding your value a bit. I guess you are saying SZ has old tech becuase it does not use a variable speed compressor? Thermador 48" built-in uses 580kw/year while SZ 48" built-in uses 676 kw/year for a difference of about $3 per year. Does it offer same or better performance?SZ has some very nice tech features including a very advanced air purification system. If you have one eye on resale get the SZ with the big shiny grill on top not a paneled one. For the rest get what you really want to use. Resale between different brands of pro-style ranges,ovens,and dishwashers means close to squat IMO.If you ask potential buyers they may say they prefer Wolf because that is probably the only brand they know but are they willing to pay extra dollars for it? IMO the answer is no. I am even more certain that high end home buyers are not willing to pay a premium for Thermador. If you think VAH magic lungs are easy to clean make sure you have an appliance salesman give you a demonstration on how to clean then have him show you how you clean a tradional rangehood. I would not buy a VAH.

My home is under construction so I am not yet using my appliance choices. I am going with Blue Star. I have never used Capital so I can not comment on that. I have had the Wolf cook top and wall ovens, viking range and thermador range in past homes. Of those I would say that Wolf AND Viking were equal. However, Wolf is having issues with the interior ovens cracking, I am sure you have read all that. Viking is just making a comeback so who knows. I did have to open the Wolf oven to turn my food for even cooking. The Wolf cook top is not that powerful. I think with Wolf in particular you are paying for the name. It lacks power. It is pretty, and you will get the best service. So if that is the most important thing for you then Wolf is your best bet. Thermador was a very big disappointment for me. The oven cooked unevenly and the griddle took a life time to get hot and never actually did get hot enough to enjoy cooking on it. The Viking was a work horse and eventually had issue with the screws on t the door. Not a big deal. I know they had issues with this but it really was not a big deal. After I had mine the company sort of went down hill and got a bad name. I am going with Blue Star Platinum range top and the new electric wall ovens. I want the the open burner. (personal preference) For me, I also want the 25K BTU burner for wok cooking. It does offer a true simmer. I will be able to throw the griddle on where I want and getting hot enough is not going to be an issue with the high power burners. I am not a trained chef but I love to cook and do A LOT of it. I have not heard any feed back on users of the new BS electric wall ovens but I like that it has a pizza stone in the bottom. I am hopeful that this feature will prove to be wonderfully useful with pizza and rustic breads. It fits a full sheet pan and has 5,000 watt Infrared broiler. My top priority was a wall oven with French Doors. I think I found an oven that had even more than I was hoping for. All in all, just consider what is your number one most important thing to have and go from there. Then just consider how you cook and what you really need or want. You will find comments positive and negative on everything. Wolf will give the best service, or so everyone says. If that is the most important thing for you then just prioritize the other things on your list and see what you are left with. Coming to my decisions were gut wrenching for me. I changed my mind what seemed like a 100 times. I finally figured out what was important to ME besides the french doors. Once you really consider how you work in the kitchen one should start to rise to the top. Trust your instincts.

Julie R, I saw your post from last year and wondered what you ended up getting. I am in the same place you were last year. The sales people are worthless and all the stories about the blue chipping and things not working, bad service, etc. it is hard to know what to do. I'm looking at Thermador and Wolf for double wall oven (electric) and gas (propane) cooktop--there are so many positives/negatives about both that I'm paralyzed by indecision. ANY recommendations are greatly appreciated! I am replacing a Miele cooktop and double wall oven that I've had since 2004 -- not going back to Miele for cooking appliances, too many oddball aggravations. I'm a regular cook/baker so the appliances will get a lot of use. Ideally I'd like a cooktop that's easy to clean (not the tidiest of cooks). The Thermador does have the side opening doors, which is a plus for accessibility, but my head is turned by the Wolf. Please help!

Definately Wolf, best quality and customer service. Thermadore is on par with Viking as far as needing frequent repairs. Bosch is good choice for fridge and dishwasher. I like the feature on the Vent A Hood that automaticly turns up the fan speed when needed, wish it controlled both fans though.

Should I just go crazy and get the subzero refrigerator ???
I guess ill save 1500 bucks with the current special since I'm buying the wolf range allready. What is the perfect DW to accompany the wolf sub zero kitchen.

Do you like the subzero fridge best? I had an old one and thought it served its purpose very well but found the one big refrigerator door a pain for our space and the kids running around. I went with a Bosch Builtin French door (similar to Thermador Freedom) as I still liked the freezer drawer below better than a Sidexside config. Also do you want ice/water in the door? That limits selection quite a bit in builtins.

The 36" subzero I'm looking at has bottom freezer with icemaker.
Now I'm thinking about pure thermador or pure sub zero wolf
Or possibally thermador refrigerator with free hood. Wolf gas range and wolf steam oven that also has dry heat convection. Miele DW.
Argh. Lol.

I'm gonna put my 2 cents in here. I opted for a sub-zero fridge which I love, it does a good job at keeping things cold ha ha ha. I don't know about your future plans, but around here at least when selling, people look for sub-zero fridges and basically other brands don't matter. Real estate listings often include "sub-zero fridge" in them. I assume it is usually because it's associated with a high quality kitchen and it's instantly recognizable. I would also suggest them because I had a small problem with it when it first arrived, and they have 24hour customer service which is great.

Is SZ/Wolf still running that promo where if you buy $xxxx.xx worth of product, you get a wall oven or something thrown in, or like a few hundred dollars off? They were doing that when I bought my appliances.

Miele DW would be a good compliment to that package.

I would opt for the Wolf/Bosch package. When a company has a package going, (such as Therm's) it tends to be the case that one of the things you receive in the package will be mediocre at best; in your case, that would be the Thermador dishwasher. I have several friends who bought Thermador dishwashers for the pro look, and they have paid dearly for that mistake. Wolf and Bosch are both solid, reputable and quality brands. Good luck!

FYI, I was told at a reputable appliance store that Thermadore DWs are just Bosch re-badged.
