Tell us the operating system, browser and browser version you use.

There's a little house at the end of the Bing Bar from what I hear right click on it and see if any options are there, It could also be in the add/ remove programs list, Programs an features in Vista an 7 check there. It could also be installed as an add/on in the browser, so check your browser add/ons.

Windows 7 ( home premium) and IE8 are what I'm using. I also have firefox downloaded , which I used on my old machine, but have not had an easy time with it on this one.

You have to be careful with various updates and downloads because many of them are now including a toolbar with the package: you have to look carefully and un-check the box for the toolbar to make sure you don't get one of these "gifts." I recently went to download Google Earth and noticed that the option to add the Google Chrome browser was checked. Since I'm happy with Firefox, I un-checked that one before installing the program.

This answer might be too easy but look next to your search field and see if there is a downward arrow. When I click on mine, I can choose from a list which search engine I'd like to use.

I did what pfmastin notes above and selected the search engine I prefer, then there is an option to make that the default search engine. No more Bing but I do use Chrome and FF never IE except for MS updates.

I think salbwil is referring to the bing search Bar as in tool bar, just in case here is a good site should you be speaking of the Tool Bar bing.

Did you try as pfmastin suggests? I have the same IE8 on Win 7 and had done exactly that and swapped Bing for Google.

However MS being MS they decided that as soon as you click on the query box to type your search they pop Bing underneath, you simply ignore that and keep tying, the search is completed using Google or your engine of choice.

Not sure why you are experiencing difficulties with FF either. I have Chrome, FF, Opera and IE all installed and all work flawlessly. I add very few options to any of them and generally stick with Chrome.

Bing came on my Windows 7 and I went to the control panel, the programs and removed it there. But not the search bar.

In the bing search window, key the following -- remove the bing search bar -- without the hyphens. Lots of suggestions.

On some of the new machines Bing.com is set to the home page. When you open IE8 does it go to Bing.com web site?

If you look in your Program & features list you will most likely see Windows Live Essentials in there, that adds the bing bar too.

Anyway if your home page is set to Bing see link.

My home page is Comcast.net. I have disabled the Bing search bar, but cannot remove it. I have gone to the control panel and to Windows Live Essentials to remove the instant messaging, but do not see the Bing option there. Is it listed under something else?
