On a Homeworthy binge --- PA stone house

I love old stone homes, it's the Pennsylvanian in me. IDK why stone houses are far less common in New England.

A few takeaways. Underscores the idea that a collection of almost anything is interesting and attractive. If your rug is too small, layer it over the right size jute. I liked the large sink in the laundry, but that is was not a deep utility sink, but rather a sink dedicated to hand washing. And a little rack above. Great idea.

Lastly, I didn't know they were called "stranger portraits." Again, a large grouping of them works. I suppose all else equal they are cheaper than similar quality works of a more universal subject. I think, though, if you have a quirky space, they work nicely.

PS oh and yay for baby blue K cabs!

Let the girl get her start. Most in her generation are recovering from the barn door/shiplap HGTV influence.

Okay, I love it (you’re probably not surprised). I would kill to have a LR that big (and window sills that deep) but I have very similar shelving in my LR. Which I am now going to rearrange. I even have similar stuff. For instance, I have this Jonathan Adler vase (and its partner).

My shelves before we moved in…mine are shallower so a bit harder to style.

The art wall in the living room really speaks to me, too.

She is young to have so much stuff, though! LOL I’m a little worried about what she will have accumulated by the time she’s my age.

I loved the blue kitchen. I like all the wall paper.

I do not like so many pictures displayed, feels over done to me.

FW - No NY, for tax reasons. Our lakehouse is in NY, and because I own that property in NY, I am deemed a resident if I spend more than 180 days working at or for a NY company, or in the state of NY for any purpose. If I am deemed a NY resident, I am then taxed as a NY resident, including on my heretofore tax free municipal bonds. I have to prove where I am every day, and corroborate it with cell phone bills, bank statements, etc. Otherwise it is assumed that I was in NY that day, and if its more than 180 days a year, i'm a New Yorker for tax purposes. That includes going into NYC to meet friends for dinner, or to Westchester for my kids doctor. It also includes any day I work for a NY based company, even if I am physically home. I left the industry but I do some consulting from time to time, but since it is for a NY firm, even if I do it from home, it counts as a day in NY. As you can probably tell from the venom spewing over the keyboard, I was audited for this. I won. But what a pain in the neck. Tax court is run on presumption of guilt. More than you ever wanted to know about NY's taxation policies. PS I love PEI! I was there as a kid. My girls are reading the Anne books. I would love to take them there! Week 50: Do seasons improve? Or is it just us?

I'm in North Dakota, so our seasons are rather extreme. We're currently reveling in not wearing coats - it's been 4 whole days! And last Thursday, we had snow. One never knows. I love winter, and enjoy playing in the snow - skiing, sledding, dog sledding. But much of the winter is still spent cooped up indoors. The best part about spring is the rapid lengthening of daylight hours! In December, the sun sets at 4:45; in June the sky is still light at 11 pm. I do enjoy spending time in the yard, and seeing our neighbors, as we all come out of hibernation. Any day now we'll be helping our neighbors open up their pool for the season. The summer tends to fly by - time at the lake, baseball games, family activities. This year we have a trip in May with our kids and my mom; in July we have DH's family reunion, then a week at a resort with college friends, followed by a long weekend canoe trip. August brings a Blues festival in Duluth, MN. Fall brings its own joys. We are deer hunters, and spend several weekends in the fall in the woods, scouting and repairing our deer stands before the season. We can have snow in October, or decent weather until Thanksgiving - one never knows what to expect, which makes it interesting. I usually get some sort of Spring Fever some time between December and June. Sometimes it's a cleaning/organizing frenzy (not often); other times I feel compelled to paint a room, or buy new furniture. I've managed to escape this year, for some reason.

Such a fun and beautiful assortment of collections! Arcy, I’m a plate addict, too and have not displayed my collection. I have one Norman Rockwell, I think it is the doctor with the little girl’s doll. I do like seasonal, not beyond holiday, decorating. Do you keep the hooks in the wall and just rotate the plates? I used to collect souvenir spoons, when I traveled. I wish I’d splurged and gotten the actual silver ones, but at least they aren‘t plastic. I seem to be inadvertently collecting A Christmas Carol books! I realized it when I was reorganizing my Christmas books, and now I have a box just for the Dickens. There are so many beautiful or interesting editions that I come across. Some are old, some are new. Different illustrators, types, covers, but also the annotated ones. (I like annoted books. My annotated Mother Goose!) One with Dickens’ manuscript on one page with all his own edits and notes, and the finished product on the next. Another told from the point of view of Marley. That kind of thing. Not sure I’ll have time to get the box out for a photo session.

Ooops my brain read "Doylestown" not Jenkin . . . still a very lovely area. I can totally see a house and lot like that selling fast . . . I used to live and work minutes from there. Lovely area, IMHO. Not so much the shopping/suburban sprawl, but beautiful (and expensive) homes. I looked to buy a house near work and could find nothing under 200K. I was renting but would have had to move far out and commute to find affordable housing at my price point. One of my friends lived just off of Suquehanna Rd. and taught at Arcadia College. Very nice classy old suburban area. The lot is in between two roads and fairly close to them, but that's not unusual for older homes in that area. My one friend who lived in an old gatehouse right on a busy road, had a car crash into her parlor once . . .

I really liked her wallpaper choices, too. I like gallery walls. This is like gallery walls on steroids. I'm still getting used to unframed canvas art.

Collecting takes time... she must have started when she was 3!

eta I thought it was funny how the camera lingered on the bowl of sweet pots, toms and avocado on her island. It wasn't staged at all, but that's a mix I'd have in mine.

The picture of the general looks like Doc Martin.

Funny, I see her signs around here on houses where she is working. Honestly to me it looks like an explosion in a thrift shop. Love the range in the kitchen and the sunporch.

Her gallery walls are really well done, there are just too many of them. I personally would need some more places for my eye to rest. I enjoyed her tour, she's very thoughtful and she has great taste. I LOVE the couch in her husband's office with the color block upholstery.

I was trying to figure out her age, and I found her on LinkedIn. She was a buyer for Anthropologie which makes perfect sense.

Yes, I noticed a lot of Anthro stuff, and it is a Phila co. In particular I noticed her rattan daybeds(2) and I was almost certain they were anthro. When I saw two, i figured had to be. I toyed with getting one in the girls bunk room but got one from WM for half the price. I like this one better.

Yeah, the sunporch --- that fieldstone is just such a great foil.

This is exactly how it felt to me. I wanted to like it based on "stone house,", but the interior was just too chaotic.

It’s curious how fairly young people can have such extensive collections of so many different kinds of things. We used to call that power shopping. 😎 The illusion of things actually collected one by one seems to be standard practice now.

I liked the house and she seems very nice.

The house is nice, but all that stuff gives me sensory overload! Love the sunporch- not sure why they were going to eliminate that?

All of those mystery photos/ paintings, etc would not suit me, but I guess she enjoys them.

I think she might be older than she looks based on some of her statements such as "We go back every few years."

And yea, that is a lot of stuff.

I'm getting ready to take my time looking at the video, but I have loved (old) stone houses since I was a wee one. It was the house below that was my grandfather and step-grandmother's wheret I spent many a night growing up and always admired the stone, and in hindsight the decor gene was developing.

Can you or anyone else identify this stone for me? I can't find it under OK river rock.

This was their house and it even has a garage apartment behind it. Built in 1935.

Here are the stone steps to the left that I sat on for hours.

I love the kitchen. Love her two cats, two dogs. There's just too much "stuff". It's very thrift shoppie....clutter....feels like a sensory overload.....not in a good way. When you mentioned her rattan chaise, it was like you were shopping her house. When you achieve a thrift shop ambiance you miss the mark of a cozy home. JMO

When I read she's a Hokie I immediately became her #1 fan. My dad graduated from VA Tech, and I'm wearing one of my Hokie tees right now.

I do like the decor and this is going to sound petty (and jealous), but she's too young to own such a collection. Collections takes time, each piece is a memory, so I'm thinking during her travels and such it was to buy as much as possible so her collections will be complete.

I'll definitely go to her garage sale when she finds a new collection or ten. :)

I absolutely love the exterior of it. Wonderful stonework! But, to me, the inside is much too cluttered. Darling furkids, though!

I love the exterior stone, but the inside? How on earth do you keep it clean? The kitchen is a breath of fresh air! Almost too plain and stark. I've never heard of the term stranger portraits. It turns out that I have 76 (!) of them. My niece found them on the side of the road in Menlo Park with a free sign. I've thought of doing a whole wall but my house is full of windows and the only large wall would be the dining room or a long upstairs hallway. Agree with Oakley, I think people should take time to create a collection so that each piece is meaningful. I like to only buy things that I would never want to sell and have a story behind them, either the items story or a personal story about how or where I discover my treasure. I don't have many collections, but once in a while I come across a lot of one thing. One example. I found a lady selling 20 beautiful green ceramic planters, mostly old with Asian motifs. I bought them all.

This is the one that got away. Four years ago we passed on it before seeing it in person the driveway was steep and blind. But still my favorite home. (But I adore our home).
