Happy Thanksgiving From our home to yours

Thanksgiving is essentially a harvest related festival. It celebrates communal harmony. Though it is said to have been originated in America, a number of other countries celebrate harvest related festivals. They are observed with different names and in different seasons.

Thanksgiving Day is celebrated with lot of fervor and merry-making in America. Celebrated on the fourth Thursday in the month of November every year,(which happens to be on the 26th of the month this year) it is a time for communal thanksgiving, feeling gratitude, lavish feasts. It is a time to remember the pilgrims. The original pilgrims celebrated the autumn harvest with a feast of thanks. The feast popularly known as the 'First Thanksgiving Day Feast' was held as a gesture of thanks to almighty God . It was celebrated in the year 1621. After the United States gained independence, Congress recommended one yearly day of thanksgiving for the whole nation to celebrate.

Until recently, people believed Thanksgiving Day to be a celebration of pilgrims, offering food to Indians. It however is a day marked as a gesture of thanks and gratitude to Lord almighty for his blessings. It is also a celebration to mark the respect towards Indians for teaching the pilgrims how to cook. Pilgrims could not have survived without the help of the native Indians.

Here in America, it is a custom to serve Pumpkin Pie as part of our Feast. And, because I find that all the good people of the world here at Help2Go are very committed to giving/sharing their knowledge to help others, I would like to share our Pumpkin Pie with you.

To the wonderful people here at The Garden Web, I do apologize for my oversight. I am learning computing at another Computer Help site as well as here. Upon posting my thanks to them there, I copied and pasted the full post that I submitted there and didn't delete there Logo. Please except my apologies! You folks are really great here at The Garden Web, and been so good to Joe & I, that I did not want to disclude you in my thanks!

PJ We were up on the North Shore yesterday, and boy the ways were breaking. I'm too faint of heart to go out in that water and surf. BTW, yes it is a wild turkey hen. There are a bunch of them over in Refugio County. I shoot them only with my camera! Kathy Yes, Wild Turkey comes in a bottle, but not this one! Carol Ann I'll make sure that Kathy shares with you. And to everyone else, Thanks! The plants are absolutely incredible. I've never seen any place where plants grow like they do here. I've always wanted to visit Hawaii too, but after my kids moved here with the Army, I figured why not go? Thank You ladies for your wishes! I have so much to be thankful for. Both of our sons will be home! I haven't seen our oldest son for 6 months. I'm so excited. Our youngest, is just a couple hours away at Purdue but, it will be so great to have them both under our roof for a few days. After the holiday, our oldest will be heading to Miami (he has been in NJ since he graduated from Purdue in May) with his job, so it's kinda bittersweet, plus it's my first Thanksgiving without my Mother. And a Happy Thanksgiving from us (Don and Bobbie, aka grandms) also. Pat, at my age if I were to count my blessings one by one, I'd never finish. We so often take for granted those things which people in other parts of the world never have.
