Sound Problems on Some Sites

13 years ago

All of a sudden, I have no sound on some sites (YouTube is one of them), but do have it on other sites. What could the problem be? All of my connections are fine, I don't know anything else to trouble-shoot the problem. I'm running Windows XP.

From https://support.google.com/youtube/known-issues/16903?hl=en:
"We're currently working to resolve an issue where videos start playing with the sound muted by default. As we investigate, please try adjusting the volume slider in the bottom left corner of the video player to enable sound. Alternatively, you can try viewing the video in HTML5 by opting into the HTML5 trial http://www.youtube.com/html5.";

Just curious, when you say "some sites (YouTube is one of them)", which other sites are you also having volume problems on?

Hi Dave, to the best of my knowledge, leafminers don't affect the rest of the tree, just the few young leaves they are eating. Since you mention that the LM problem in your tree is fairly limited, the yellow leaves and lack of flowers should be attributed to other causes. Maybe the link (to the Flying Dragon citrus nursery) I post below will be of some help. Good luck, Nikitas Here is a link that might be useful: Citrus deficiency guide

Some problems w/some bulbs I didn't get planted - need your opini

Hi Deanna, Bulbs store energy for the plant that can tide it over during rough times. So, rotted stems are like busted stems, as long as the bulb is large enough to support itself through next year (its not a tiny bulblet) it will come back, just a little smaller. This may result in a smaller plant with fewer blooms the first season but it will otherwise be fine. The thing to check is whether or not the bulbs have healthy looking roots. In the Fall if you find that the bulb and roots are rotten I wouldn't bother to plant it. Stressed bulbs often will decide to take a season off and not send up foliage (or abort growth already started). Instead it will spend its time growing new roots. So that doesn't mean they are dead. It sounds like your stems got the fungal disease botrytis possibly from overwatering. With your curled up new sprouts (possibly lieing along the soil) this would be an easy thing to have happen. Putting late planted bulbs in pots is usually a good idea since you can use sterile well draining soil and, depending on where you put the pot, control watering and sun. So don't hesitate to do that in the future. Botrytis strikes plenty of lilies in the garden as well. I'd cut away any diseased foliage (and throw it out securely) and spray the remaining foliage and the pots soil surface with a rose fungal spray. I've included a link with some info. -Helen Here is a link that might be useful: Plantlilies botytis link

Problem with sound

Thanks, Owbist. He's 80, but has no problems opening a computer and adding or replacing parts. He had a small business and has been using computers for over 20 years and has replaced or added many cards, hard drives, CD/DVD drives, etc over the years. The drawback to buying a new PC is the amount of time it would take to transfer over all the programs and settings and the possibility (probability?) that some of the programs that my mom uses would not work with Vista (I'm especially concerned about some of the ones for some of the sewing devices she has connected). The other problem is that my mom is much less comfortable with computers, so since Vista is different from XP, she would have difficulty with the change. I think he's going to Wal Mart today to try to find a card. If they don't have one, there are some office supply stores, but they're a little farther away for him.

able to diagnose this 'ping sound' w/out being at the site?

shadow: thank you so much for your help. I did the tests: No pinging sounds while I filled the sink. - filled up sink w/ cold water, then let it drain --> no ping. - filled up sink w/ hot water, let drain --> pinging sounds. So you think it's just the drain pipe expanding/rubbing on a support/framing member? Yes! thank goodness. I thought we'd have to rip out the entire 2nd floor bathroom, along w/ all the plumbing to check/deal with what's going on. We are planning to do that, but not for many years. The old non-functional kitchen takes priority, right after the new roof, but only after we take down some trees (that's overhanging over the said roof/house).

I tried to watch a video of a product on the Williams Sonoma website, and that video had no sound either. But I occasionally play Mah Jong on another website, and that sound works perfectly. So sound is working on some sites, but not on others.

What browser are you using?

Have you tried another browser to view the troubled sites?

I've been trying to find a video on http://www.williams-sonoma.com/ so I can see if it happens to an embedded Youtube video... but I must be blind, I can't find a one. :)

But they do seem to make use of Youtube(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0leeHDIvNgM) so I wouldn't be surprised if they host them on Youtube and simply embed them on their own site. If that's the case, I would suspect the embedded videos would suffer the same Youtube problem I quoted above.

Have you tried un-muting the video? {{gwi:1502213}}

They start out silent/muted for me too, I have to hover over the video and click the volume slider to give it some volume every time I visit Youtube. And will have to until they fix it.

Edit: Finally got my eyes to cooperate long enough to find one. :)

This video on this page http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/williams-sonoma-smart-tools-kitchen-stand-tablet/ is really this Youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMyytBxvWr0 embedded. Unless I'm missing something, and perhaps I am, it's still a Youtube "mess up", right?

Cool. Yeah, it can be easy to overlook the simple things. I know because I do it ALL the time. :)
