well i assume all that 'crap' i did cleaned the nozzles and aligned the print head. this is pretty much greek to me. you have hit upon a problem that i know is most likely my problem. no, i seldom print anything, like 1 time every month but more likely once every 2 or 3 months. but using this printer since 11/2003 i have done this and just now this problem happens. as i was not having a problem all those years, i figured it was ok to just not using the printer. the document i was having trouble with was a pdf. i copied the text into MS word and thought i would be able to change the text color to say blue. i was not able to do that. so a 2nd question is why? if i could change the color in word i'd be able to print the doc. tom

Like Zep showed you above. In file mine said "page setup". I couldn't change the scale until I removed the check mark out of "shrink to page width". I set my scale at 120% and that was just right. Usually I can solve my problems by researching on the net but not the print problem. Yesterday I found a way to stop the welcome screen from coming on when the Pc is idle. I had everything set to never, but that didn't stop it.

I have a "closet office" off the living room. It's 5' wide, by 7' long. One window. The door opens out into the living room; the door is on one of the 5' walls. It's cozy, to be sure. At the moment, it's utter chaos; I'm making do with a cheap, small, unfinished corner desk, and papers I'd dearly love to have in filing cabinets are piled on the floor against one wall. The desk is against the wall opposite the door; I sit with my back to the door. I've been planning builtins, which I'll build myself, so I don't have to try to find as-built furniture that fits. The interior 7' wall will be bookshelves, floor to ceiling. Planning to make the first 30' or so be slightly deeper, with sliding doors. Above that to ceiling, open shelves. Deep enough for small hardcover books, no more. The desk will be narrow, with a narrow filing cabinet under on the lefthand side, and the righthand side supported by the base of the bookshelves. Desktop computer under the desk, perhaps in the base of the bookshelf. It's never going to feel like a large space, but we had a similar issue trying to pack in all the functional areas we wanted into a small floor plan. I think this will work out fine; I can fit quite a bit into this space, I think. And frankly, I rather like a small space. Everything's close at hand. Heck, I'll be able to reach a lot of material on the walls without even getting up out of my chair. :-) --Steve

I've used the Brother Line of Portable Printers. The DPI on them is between 200 to 300. They use Thermal Paper, so you're not really using Ink or Toner like older Portable Printers used. They are Very Pricey IMO, but if it's something you really need it may be well worth your money! Brother Pocketjet 6 I don't have one of these Printers but I do have a Brother QL-570 Label Printer which is a Thermal Label Printer (Desktop Model). I really like this Printer, been a handy tool. I've even used it to make Christmas Labels one year when we ran out (they're Black Only), but I'm able to incorporate Images into the labels. I originally had the QL-500 but got a great deal on the Brother QL-570, a much nicer Label print IMO. I'm sure HP, Canon, Epson and a few other manufacturers make Portable Printers. But I have no experience with those brand of Portables. The Four I named are good brand names, but I'm sure they all have their own Lemons. I would use as many Reviews on these printers as I could before spending that kind of money. The Reviews should help you at least avoid a Lemon!
