Hardwood Floor Dog Scratches - Redo?
Comments (4)Trim the dog's nails. Every other week or so. After cutting them you need to file the sharp edges the cutter leaves to round them slightly. If you hear them clicking on the floor they are long. Cherry would rate as very soft for flooring applications. If you write on a single piece of paper on a cherry table using a ball point pen you may be able to read the writing in the damage to the table surface....See MoreHardwood floor: new finish scratching/scuffing
Comments (3)Nope not a crappy Poly..just the ultra high expectations of consumers today. Anyone that knows wood and how it will perform understand that this is absolutely normal and they are going to continue for as long as you have the wood. now dont get me wrong, prefinished will have a tougher finish coat than site finished. That is just a fact and can be proven with research. I will say that there are a couple of Canadian companies and also Shaw applying now applying the aluminum oxide on top and have come up with a way to do it without clouding the wear layer. This is a product that amps of the resistance to abrasion big time. You have mostly abrasions...very few scratches at this point. The scratches will come and you must not worry about them. it adds to the patina of floor. For the people who to do not want to see what you are seeing, they should go to hand scraped or distressed flooring as old English will address the issue with perfection. There is no answer for you my friend..only that what you are experiencing is very normal. To take off your shows, and try not to ever mark the floor is placing undue hardship on you, your family, your pets and all else who enters your domain. Enjoy those damned floors just the way they are and understand that those marks are normal and you have the best flooring in your home that money can buy. They can be screened at a later date to make them museum quality once again, but who lives in a museum. I had pre finished floors laid 2 years ago and we have a beautiful high dollar home. I also puked in about 2 weeks and they I came to realize..such is life with Hardwood. Enjoy. Good Luck....See MoreWater Polyurethane Hardwood Floors Scratching RIDICULOUSLY easy!!!!
Comments (27)At this point, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you do nothing. This is a brand new finish. It will not perform to the level of the old finish for a little bit of time. An old oil finish (lets say 15 years of 'hardening') is going to be much HARDER than a fresh water based finish. You must be patient with this. Whomsoever 'let' you back in on that floor after ONE DAY is the one you need to speak with. Bona MEGA needs 10 days to reach a full cure (that means it is no longer soft enough to peel back with a fingernail). Bona Traffic HD cures in 5 days (again no longer soft enough to peel back with a fingernail). Please respect the youth that is this finish. If it took 15 years for the old finish to perform the way you say it did, you will need to allow this finish the same amount of patience for this new finish. Remember: a floor finish is a floor finish. It's chemical characteristics will not change. The laws of physics and chemistry will not change. The only part of this equation that can 'change' is the human being. Either accept the finish for what it is (super young and needing time and patience) or pay for another finish that will suit YOU....See MoreHardwood floor scratches - temporary fix?
Comments (13)NOOOOOOO! No steam! Never ever use steam with wood. The steam 'cooks' the polyurethane causing it to haze and crack. If you REALLY want to make these look better, bring in a hardwood flooring professional to attempt a 'buff and coat'. This is the ONLY option for these types of dents/scratches. And remember: factory finished hardwoods are NOTORIOUSLY difficult to get a buff and coat to 'stick'. It could make the problem worse (as in ruin the floors). If you are so desperate to make these issues 'look' better, then please do it properly = buff and coat. Which may not work. For $3/sf....See Morewestvillager
