Replacement for 30' Gas GE Profile downdraft Cooktop ?
Comments (1)I wouldn't replace the downdraft with an overhead RECIRCULAING hood - if you can vent the overhead hood that would be the best. As far as options for a new downdraft, I know others have had success with telescoping ones, but I don't know what's required vs. what you have in place - others may be able to help here....See MoreShould I get a Wolf cooktop with pop-up downdraft?
Comments (24)I have a 36"Wolf induction cooktop and the Wolf downdraft behind it, on a 11ft long center island. If you are already used to cooking on an induction cooktop, you know that any drops of water or any slight touch, will change the element heat up/down. It's important to have the delicate controls off to the side somewhere, so one doesn't inadvertently change the settings and burn the food. The burners, 4 of them, work great. I love how fast they cook. The 5th burner, the largest one, worked for about 1 year, then quit. One cannot just replace the faulty burner. One has to replace the whole cooktop, so I didn't do that. It's a transistor thing, the repairman said. The downdraft went up/down, with a concealed switch. It looks great, but only comes up about 12-14" tall. One day, it wouldn't retract, so it's stuck in the upright position behind the cooktop, and it doesn't turn on./off. Again, I have to replace the whole thing, according to the repairman. I have had this cooktop and downdraft 10 years. Look at all the choices on the mkt. today. I had no choice, really, as induction was new to the American mkt. I also recently bought a SubZero ice dispensing side by side, refrig/freezer. It's OK, but holds less than the KA I replaced it with. The best DW I have found, is the Bosch, with 3 racks. I can fold all the racks down to fit almost anything. A lot of DW do not have fold down tines. You do have to use salt to keep glassware sparkling. TRM...See MoreCooktop under Window: Downdraft or Chimney Hood?
Comments (16)Wow, you all are so helpful. The wisdom you share is really appreciated. Bellsmom, I love the pictures on Houzz. Thank you for sharing. It is so nice to see some chimney style hoods over cooktops, especially in some not-so-modern kitchens. My eye goes to the window, not the hood. How about you all? I also like this https://www.houzz.com/photos/main-street-traditional-kitchen-boston-phvw-vp~41164-Street-traditional-kitchen-boston I would like to have the hood built into a painted wood cabinet. Comments (2)If it was a choice between having a recirculating system or venting through the garage, the latter would definitely be my choice. You shouldn't vent into the garage itself. Vent to an outside wall of your garage or perhaps you could go out the garage roof. Can you return your purchased hood vent in favor of something that would work with your existing ductwork? Possibly using an external or in-line blower if that would work? In my situation, my ductwork runs from an interior wall up two flights, attic to an external blower on the roof. It has 3 elbows as well but works well. A better option than reusing my old downdraft or a recirculation system IMO....See Morepk66
