I just recently purchased a Frigidaire Professional 30" gas range. I had considered the GE Profile, but much preferred this one (and am glad I did!). I actually just bought it Friday and won't be getting it for a few months (moving in 2 months and will flip the kitchen right away - needed definite appliance measurements now, hence ordering them so early), so I can't say much about the current model's performance. However, I currently have a Frigidaire Pro that is only 3.5 years old and LOVE it. Unfortunately, it is staying w/ the house. I was looking around at other brands, but decided on Frigidaire since I like the one I have so much, and a few dealers said that they have only improved in the last few years. I can only imagine I will love my new range, too (now mind you, the only other gas comparison I have is the built-in cook-top that came w/ our house - it was circa 1970 and you needed a BBQ lighter to get 'er going. Anything was an upgrade for me!). I cook and/or bake daily and have yet to have a complaint w/ my range. Good luck on your search!

Here is the explanation I found on the GE website (the link to this is below so you can see the video). Also I looked through a couple of GE Café range manuals where they discussed the Control Lockout on 'some models,' but I suppose those manuals were written pre Summer 2013 because they showed it locking out burners as well. You may have to verify with GE Support about the specific model you are looking at. "Range - Explanation of the Lockout Feature The range Lockout feature allows the user to lock out all oven and surface burner operation. When locked, there can be no unintended oven or surface burner activation. Note: As of summer 2013, the control lockout button locks out the oven controls only, not the gas burners. To activate: 1.press Range Lockout pad 2.press Start To deactivate feature: repeat the steps listed above. If the power fails to the home while the range lockout feature is activated, the range lockout feature will remain activated once the power has been restored. The range lockout feature can also be activated while the surface burners are in use. Once range lockout has been activated the gas will stop flowing to the surface burners. The control panel will flash to remind you to turn the surface burner off. Caution: If the surface burner is left in the on position gas will flow once the range lockout feature has been deactivated. Note: Cooktops with control lock feature, when the lock is engaged and a burner is turned on, the cooktop will buzz and no gas will come out. View a short video about about the lockout feature."" I have the same burner arrangement in a GE profile slide in. It's terrible. The burner ring on the high powered burners is so large, it burns food on the SIDES of the pan (not the bottom) because the flame will climb the outside of all but a huge 14" pan. With a huge pan, the center will be cool in comparison to the outer edges because it receives no flame at all. You could order a pizza and have it delivered by the time it heated a pot of water to boiling. The KA burner design looks very similar. If you want sealed burners, look at ones where the higher powered burners (above 11k) are done with double or triple flame rings.
