Replacement for 30' Gas GE Profile downdraft Cooktop ?

Hello all,

we've moved and now are in cooktop upgrade mode.

the builder put in a 30" GE profile downdraft, with a cut out of 29x21.

seems like the 30" monogram may work as well as the 30" thermador.

ok...here is my issues:

do i need to replace this unit with a downdraft unit or can i just plug that and use a recirculating hood above? is the concept of plugging the hole in the bottom cabinet silly?

i was also thinking perhaps i do a unit with a telescoping downdraft. it appears that i currently have 6" ductwork, will this be ok or do the telescoping vents require 8"?

i'm greatly confused and in need of some forum guidance!

thanks guys!!!
