Need quick input on Frigidaire pop-up downdraft
Comments (4)Downdrafts with a gas cooktop are not a good idea, especially one as low as 7". Depending on how you cook, for it to be effective at all in steamy or greasy situations, you will need to place your pans/pots on the back burners and turn your downdraft on high. With gas and only a 7" rise, the flame will be drawn to the vent (something you don't want.) If you cannot do an overhead hood (recommended), look at the 14" downdrafts for a little better result. Bosch, Thermador, and KitchenAid sell these. I have the pop-up 14" Bosch with an induction cooktop and a 600cfm inline blower and it works pretty well, especially on the back hobs (burners). We do a lot of wok cooking and frying....See MoreHelp! Pop up downdraft. 7', 9 1/2' or 14'
Comments (5)Definitely go with the highest one you can find, especially with gas, as the downdraft will try and "tug" at the flames. If price is an issue and you can deal with a basic slide switch, look at the Bosch, it is a few hundred less than the Thermador, but essentially the same beast. KitchenAid also has a 14" one now, don't know who is making that one. I have the Bosch and I am pretty happy with it as far as downdrafts go. I still wouldn't expect a lot of "capture" when using the front burners. (50% max) I also suggest an inline or remote blower to reduce sound levels and as many CFMs as you can afford....See MorePop-up downdraft behind my slide-in stove.?
Comments (24)cfitz134, You will need two downdrafts for it to work on the sides of the units or you will only be able to effectively use the downdraft on the side that it is mounted. Gaggenau used to sell a side mounted downdraft that was well rated because it extended above the cooking surface directly. It was discontinued in the US and you would still need two of them. you may be able to find these on eBay. You will also lose considerable counter and cabinet space. Gaggenau VL 051 older model that swings into place. This the Gaggenau replacement (Vario Model VL414) for the older model but it fights the laws of physics. Good luck!...See MoreWolf Induction Cooktop vs. Wolf Gas Cooktop??
Comments (26)I saw the newest Wolf induction cooktop and I was impressed with its versatility. Specifically, I am speaking of model CI365T/S. I really like the burner layout with the four burners that can be bridged on one side and a larger oval burner on the other side. It offers what seems to be the most flexible layout. There are other induction cooktops with "flexible" zones but they are in a layout that is less versatile, most commonly with a large round hob in the center and the flexible zones on either side. My building does not have gas so when I upgrade, I will be looking at induction. As of now, I think the Wolf is my favorite but I am a year or two out and something new may change my thinking....See Moreweedmeister
