Thought I would share with you some of the plates I have been making over the past couple of months. I still have a lot to learn, but I think I am getting better at it and have been experimenting with different techniques and layering glass.

I made the images small to save space, but you can click on them to see a larger image.

Now I just have to polish my photography skills! LOL

Brenda, it is nice when even family members are enablers, eh? LOL!! I actually keep telling my husband "There's this garden in Western NY that someday we have to go visit!" I would love to see your beautiful garden some day. The different areas you have planted and the variety is amazing. I've been lusting for some more photos from you. Would love to see what you have on file for your veggie garden from last year if you have any time to post some. Goodness! I finally cracked open the catalog for my local nursery who I really like to support. She's a true plantswoman who I so enjoy chatting with, etc. I just sent an email over to her with my "list" (is was a long one) of plants to put aside for me for pickup when they open. It's a terrible habit I have of giving her a list each year for pickup. But my birthday is always right around when she opens, so it's a birthday present, right?!?! LOL!

Good morning! So fun to share my projects here, you gals all make me feel so good. Let me answer a couple of questions. These blocks are just various lengths cut from an old 2x4 board. The 2x4's work well because they stand easily and you can do a different design on the back--so two sets from one like these are. You could use any size wood really. 4x4 blocks can be decorated on all sides and flipped. (Nice with photos on each side.) You can also just decorate a length of wood instead of blocks. I use DH's "chop saw" so it is fast and easy to cut them. Then I take the electric sander to them because they are usually pretty rough. A quick coat of acrylic paint and let it dry. Then just cut pieces of scrapbook paper and Mod Podge it to the face of the block. Let me just add that I "could" just decorate them by painting--but using the papers is fun, easy, and faster. I've been cutting letters with my Cricut--but you can buy sheets of letters in all sizes and colors, stencil letters on, etc. Some of the things I added were dimensional "stickers" that I bought for the summer theme. A whole sheet of them on sale at Michael's for $1.49. I also use small silk flowers or layered ones cut from cardstock, ribbons or strips of contrasting paper, leaves cut out of cardstock, buttons, rick rack, etc. That's the fun part and a great way to use up scraps of things since it only takes small pieces. The Mod Podge is great, goes on cloudy but dries clear and fast! Later I will try cutting some vinyl letters, but it is more pricey, so doing the paper letters is good while I'm learning. You can also use thin boards for signs to hang on the wall, and I've seen some "stacked" blocks and boards that are so cute too. Lots of this stuff being created on some of the blogs I've found on the Cricut message boards. And Grandma Bonnie on the Crafts forum here on GW does the vinyl designs for walls and even cars! Once I invest in some vinyl, I'll be able to adhere words and designs to plates, jars, the refrigerator, etc. Really any flat clean surface! (The vinyl can be damp wiped and easily removed--the Mod Podged paper would be difficult to remove.) It does take "time", mostly because I try this and then try that before I decide what to glue where! But it is one of the easiest crafts I've done and just so many possibilities! I've seen some words or names on the glass in a frame and would like to try that too. I've been collecting and saving ideas for things to make, Karen has sent me some good links to blogs and things that she has run across during her nighttime "surfing". (thanks Karen, love it!) OA, the painted sign can certainly be painted on both sides. I often do that if I plan to use it where only one side can be seen. Doesn't work so well if you plan to display it on an easel on the table for instance, so keep that in mind. Hope I've explained things well--if not, just ask--or email me if you'd like. roundrobin ~ thank you for mentioning this. I did look for a warning about ovens on the instructions and didn't see any. I just went back to look again. There is some teeny weeny writing at the very bottom of the instructions that is a caution. It says " Even though these panels are Class A fire rated they may be deformed with excessive heat over 140Â°. Keep toaster ovens, cooking ranges etc. 2 to 3 inches away from the panel's surface. " I measured my stove and the top part against the wall where the controls are is almost 4 inches deep. The wall panels drop down just below the counter top at the stove. That should be okay in reference to my oven. I'm going to bake some cornbread tomorrow afternoon and I'll check the behind the stove to see how hot it gets then. Class A is the best fire protection according to google, but I still will be cautious. The paint sample I have is from Lowe's. It is kind of a taupe color to match one of the mottled colors in the counter top. There are two colors I need to choose from. One is Valspar's Timber Dust and the other is also Valspar Cincinnatian Hotel Nichols Taupe. I've never used Valspar paint before. I may take the sample to my regular paint guy at Benjamin Moore and let him mix some for me. Linda

Wow! Can I hire you? :) So creative. Everything came together nicely. And what a far cry from my first digs. Love your window treatment using a drop cloth. I had slipcovers made using drop clothes for two Ethan Allen chairs that my friend's neighbor was planning to leave out for bulk trash (cat peed on the seat cushions, but I had new cushions made). Now I just need some colorful pillows for them - how much do you charge for pillows? ;) Maybe your daughter will eventually have the desire to learn to sew. My mother was very talented when it came to sewing but despite her efforts to teach me when I was younger, I had no desire. A few years ago I bought my dd a sewing machine so she could fool around making pillows and costumes, whatever else. A friend who sews told me she'd help me make panels for my living room. With her guidance (I did all the work) I made four lined panels for my living room windows. My mom almost fell over when she saw how nicely they turned out! She couldn't believe that *I* had made them! I now am interested in taking some sewing classes but so far, haven't had the time yet. You are very talented!

Linda, I cut pieces from sheets of compatible glass and put together my design. Then fire them in a kiln to make a flat "blank". After the first firing I will make any adjustments to the blank if necessary using a glass grinder. Then fire again at a lower temperature into a clay mold which makes the plate shape, and also fire polish the ground edges.

Each piece needs to be fired at least twice, sometimes more. And each firing takes from 14-16 hours start to finish.

Thanks for all your kind words. I learn something new with each piece I make. Still have lots to learn. Let me assure you I have a pile of "oops" pieces! LOL

I will be putting some of them up on my etsy page, along with some jewelry pieces. My etsy shop name is Wild Fog. I don't have anything on there right now, but soon, I hope.

I'm a HUGE dichro fan!!! I think you were the one that commented on my necklace in a picture of me several years ago on here. I have about a hundred pieces of jewelry made out of that stuff. I seek it out everywhere we go.... I love it! I love the plates, too, and have a few of those.

I like all of the plates in you pictures, but my favorite plates are the two underneath the red stiped one. I like lots of color!

Please come back and remind me on here when you get your stuff up on Etsy. I'm looking forward to it.

I though you were making "plates of cookies" or something similar. I didn't think you were making plates. Oh my goodness! So great looking! I can't decide which I like best either. Each one is fantastic in its own way.

I'll have to look at those plates when I get home or on Saturday, as they are blocked here at work. I think I might like the first one best, but I especially like the blue one as well. I used to get slumped glass from Italy at work, but there are people here who make it as well, although they charge a lot more in L.A. than in Italy. I used to have some glass button covers that I bought at the Abbot Kinney Street Fair back in 1992, and I still see similar glass being sold there, although not button covers. I like the glass jewelry. Glass plates are very practical, and I have bought them in the past as gifts. I gave the last one I had to my sister. Your plates are nice because they are so unique and each one of a kind.

I've always been a fan of glass artwork, from Venetian art glass to Chihuly, and yours ranks right up there! It is just beautiful! I love the intricacy of the patterns, but the simple designs have a subtle beauty, too. Great job!

They are beautiful plates. I love the one with the multi-color border. I want to get more into glass fusing and slumping. All I do now is make beads. I would absolutely LOVE to have a kiln. I keep hoping to find one for a great price on Craigslist. LOL. Keep up the good work.

Clare, I am in awe of glass bead making. I tried making lampwork beads once. Yep....once. Lampwork proved very difficult for me for some reason!

But I do love my kiln!

Barnmom, I am glad you found me on etsy. I am having problems finding myself if I log on and do a search. I have no trouble if I log into my account. I sent them a message asking what the problem is....

Beautiful work Linda! I love them all but the red striped one really caught my eye.

When we were in Italy we spent best part of a day in Murano. You need to go there, you'd fit right in!

Sharon I would LOVE to go to Murano....or anywhee in Italy, really!

So I got a reply from Etsy. The reason I only come up if you search for a person instead of a shop is because I have no active listings. Once I put items up for sale I should come up as a shop again. Problem solved!

I made 3 more this past week. I'll try to post them if I get a chance.

Thanks again for all the encouragement. I sometimes feel like such a novice, so it's good to know that others like my work!

Have you ever heard of Annie's Glass in Santa Cruz, CA (my area)? See the link below. I am going to go on a tour of the factory next week. I love to watch how glass items are made. There is a glass blower in our area too. I went on a studio tour of his place and it was fascinating.

I brought home Murano glass pieces for family members; next time I'll just order from you and I won't tell them if you don't.

Wow! These are gorgeous! My favourites are the multicoloured ones (especially the one with the loopy edge) and the blue ones, but they are all great. I don't imagine you'll have any problems selling them, I would think they'd walk out the door (run, even :-) ).

Reminds me of a joke: There is a horse that can jump higher than the Empire State Building. ------ (The Empire State Building can't jump )

But serious, if you would just picture desserts served on those plates, that would be a totally amazing way to enjoy.

Linda, those are amazing! I'm loving the red one too and know my Mom would snatch that one up if she saw it. I remember your jewlery from a few years ago. Think you did some cool lamps too if I remember right. Wish I had the talent that you and other members here have.
