Look what I've been doing ..3 pics

I'm going to paint our kitchen pretty soon. I knew I wanted some kind of back splash for the stove and the sink. The tiles I wanted are the tiny ones and they are very expensive. While I was at Lowe's the other day looking at tiles again I saw these sheets of some kind of fake metal stuff. They come is sheets size 18" x 24". They can be cut with either scissors or a utility knife. I thought I would give them a try because they fit more into my budget. There are several colors to choose from. I chose bermuda bronze because it has some of the colors in my counter tops. I wish they didn't have so much shine to them, but other than that I really like them. When I was at the store I didn't have my measurements with me because I wasn't planning on buying them. I still need two more sheets to put on the ones where the stove is. I want them to go to the end of the counter it is behind now and stop where the counter rises. It looks nice now, but when I paint it I'm going to like it even better.

Thanks everyone, The patio is painted concrete.....DH did it when he first moved into the house...it actually needs repainting because its chipping in some places...but its been there for about 5 years...I love it too...so bright and cheerful :-)

Thanks for the comments everyone! Happy, yes the glass was a lot of work! Some of the pieces were so tiny that by the time I got them wrapped with copper foil you could barely see the glass so I would have to use an exacto knife and trim the copper. I'm happy with how it turned out though. Lynne, are you asking about the plants the butterflies are on? If so, the Gulf Frit is on pink penta "Starburst" and there are dune sunflowers in the background. The zebra longwing is on purple porterweed. ~Betsy

Thank you all. :) I feel like she was sent to us for a reason and we love her so much. She hasn't snapped at me in almost a week. LOL She still doesn't care much for our pug kids but we're making tiny steps in the right direction. I took a chance on her level of trust in me and cut her hair earlier. She done very! well , much to my suprise. Healthwise, she's on a roll in the right direction. Finally putting on some weight (she was 9 whole lbs @ her vet checkup :( ) , her hair is growing back and her owies are healing. I hope on hope there's a special place in hell for the person that treated her so badly and the more I work with her and learn , the more I hope that person goes there. That isn't neccessarily the right way to think but from my experience and in working with her , I've figured out she was absolutly loved , pampered and trained by someone in her former life and then for whatever reason landed in the wrong hands. I took her to a public event and she socially gravitated toward older gentleman and not even knowing them , sat ever so gently next to them at their feet. I really think she was owned by such a gentleman and then he met an unfortunate fate of some type (i.e. nursing home, facility or worse) and whomever was supposed to care for her in a way he hoped, sure failed her miserably. She lets me work with her , love on her and care for her BUT she truly thinks the sun rises and sets on my husband so she certainly puts more trust in men than women. Lucky for her , he loves her as much as she does him or she'd be in trouble (or I would...LOL). Anyways, that's the Honey update. :) Have a safe and happy holiday weekend everyone!!

Marti, My daughter had invites to a couple baby showers. To be fair, she did give me 2 weeks notice. I've gotten where I don't use batting....just fleece for backing. I was a little concerned when I first started doing this, but everyone loves the soft backing. This saves me time and $$$$. And I use the "birthing" method instead of sewing on a binding like I used to do. These are all utility quilts made to be dragged around by the kiddles and used. I don't do a lot of 'quilting' in the middle part as I think it takes away from it being soft, so I usually just do in the ditch and grid. My sewing area is in the back of the living room, so I don't miss anything that's going on, and there are 3 sliding glass doors so I can look outside, too....I'm very content there. @:) Things will start to slow down for me soon....at least in the sewing area. My mom is coming for a visit from MN on May 25th and plans to stay for 2 weeks. I doubt there will be any sewing done while she's here. Plus, there will be at least 10 family members (maybe more - I've threatened to rent a port-a-potty!) here over Memorial Day week-end. It's gonna be a frenzy! SharonG/FL

I like the look, but if you don't like the shine, I wonder if spraying them with a mat lacquer/protective coating might dull the shine a bit.

I've seen them at the home help stores and when I get tired of my fake brick I would put that up.

Just a suggestion to take down the shine: when I did my fake brick it looked too new and shiny so I brushed on and wiped off a light oak stain. The stain finish was matte so there was no shine and it left and antique look. Perhaps you could try this on a corner of the sheeting?

mare ~ I used some silicone adhesive. The instructions said to use 100% polyurethane construction adhesive. I had a few old tubes of something called 732 from a few years ago when I was making garden art from bowling balls. It worked just fine. You can also use heavy duty two sided tape, but the only heavy duty tape I could find seemed to be too thick to use for that purpose.

Lori ~ Back in the 1980s I put some fake bricks on a wall too. I used 4 x 8 foot sheets. Did you use the sheets or the individual bricks. I also antiqued mine.

justlinda ~ thanks for the suggestion. I saved some scraps so I can play with them to see what might work. They seem to be already covered with some protective coating so I don't know what I can do.

I like the shine okay. They would just blend with the counter tops better if they weren't so shiny.

I need to replace the backsplash in my kitchen,and this may be just what I need.We've just had a Lowes open close by,so think I'll check it out on the weekend.

I saw an HGTV show recently where the decorator put that up as a backsplash. It was silverish color and looked pretty much like real metal tiles.

Pls.don't get mad, but if you read the packaging these are not to be installed behind your stove. but yes they are pretty and you did a good job

roundrobin ~ thank you for mentioning this. I did look for a warning about ovens on the instructions and didn't see any. I just went back to look again. There is some teeny weeny writing at the very bottom of the instructions that is a caution. It says " Even though these panels are Class A fire rated they may be deformed with excessive heat over 140Â°. Keep toaster ovens, cooking ranges etc. 2 to 3 inches away from the panel's surface. " I measured my stove and the top part against the wall where the controls are is almost 4 inches deep. The wall panels drop down just below the counter top at the stove. That should be okay in reference to my oven. I'm going to bake some cornbread tomorrow afternoon and I'll check the behind the stove to see how hot it gets then.

Class A is the best fire protection according to google, but I still will be cautious.

The paint sample I have is from Lowe's. It is kind of a taupe color to match one of the mottled colors in the counter top. There are two colors I need to choose from. One is Valspar's Timber Dust and the other is also Valspar Cincinnatian Hotel Nichols Taupe. I've never used Valspar paint before. I may take the sample to my regular paint guy at Benjamin Moore and let him mix some for me.

Linda, you did a fabulous job! We've been thinking of using those on our kitchen ceiling but in the silver color. It's great to have visuals and testimony from someone I "know"! I think I'll look into this over the weekend.
