I'm starting to put up the cement board today.
It's amazing how all of a sudden the room is taking shape. Like for months and months it was just a hole (literally, a hole in the dirt ground with no floor joists even. Ugh.) and I have been making drawings and trying to come up with the right configuration and design. It has not been a fun few months...... but now, suddenly, we can see the room, walk around in the space, pretend we're taking a shower next to the new windows! It's very exciting.

flyleft- My understanding is that I get to choose only two of those three things from Bill ;) ;)

Matter of fact, there was another one, as well, although I can't remember what her name was in here. It was all done in brick joint limestone, in 3 different sizes-- 12x12, 3x6, and 6x6:

That's a plastic nautilus that was siliconed on, and unfortuantely it was done just before I left, so the homeowner never sent me a pic after the blocking was removed. But that's river rock that it's siliconed to, surrounded by limstone pencil rail, and then limestone tile.

And then this is johnmari's bathroom, that Flyleft mentioned:

I really like the combo of subway tile and herringbone pattern in the shower of johnmari! Thanks Bill for posting these photos!

I think in all the time of reading "Bathrooms" postings... this is one of the first times there has been more of a hoopla over the great tilegod, than over the products used! LOL!

So Staceyneil, other than Bill, just what is going in your new bathroom besides Billsweat, cement board, and Kohler "Christmas presents"?

That river rock is great, Bill -- at least from here you can't see where one panel ends and the next begins. But that's what I'd expect from marble-slab-foyer guy :) (I'm referring to the foyer you did that looks like it was one continuous piece of stone)

You can actually thank Mongo for that one. I took his advice from a few years ago, and whenever I do river rock, I'll cut stones partially loose from the edges of the sheets and place them by hand so you can't tell where one sheet ends and the next begins. It's the best advice I've gotten from anyone in a long time. :-)

The bathroom is about 13' x 6.5' and originally had just one window on the (south) short end of the room. We added two more privacy-glass windows in the corner where the shower is. The floor will be 12 x 24 rectified porcelain in "Oyster Brushstroke" by Isis. It's pretty modern looking, with enough variation to feel somewhat natural without being a "faux" tile. The tub deck and apron, shower walls, and sink backsplash wall are all in small opaque white glass mosaic, so that will be pretty uniform. We splurged on the shower floor tile, which will also be in the niche in the shower and tub walls: Calacatta Gold marble "offset broken joint" mosaic. Yummy. So there are a lot of pale -hopefully soothing- tiles, and then we're bringing wood accents in. The vanity, as well as a wall cabinet over the toilet, are Utile Mahogany, very plain and modern. We found some knock-off Ronbow sinks we love, which area semi-recessed so we'll see some of the wood on the top of the vanity as well.

The tub is a Kohler Archer drop-in soaking tub. The toilet is Toto Aquia III comfort-height dual-flush. The lav and shower faucets are Kohler Purist, and the tub faucet set is Jado IQ.

With the exception of the marble and floor tile, EVERYTHING was purchased at deep, deep discounts through eBay!!

Thanks! I spent all day today (my birthday, but it needed to get done!) hanging cement board. I am sore and dirty and covered in cement dust and looking very much forward to having that lovely tub and shower soon!!!!!

Stacy, did you purchase your Toto on eBay? I love eBay and have purchased alot of the faucets for our build on there. Actually will most likely purchase all kitchen appliances thru eBay as well. I'm anxious to see some pics... and Bill what state are you in? I'm gonna be needing a good tile guy with 4 baths....LOL!

Yes- we really need to get some photos! I have just been tooooo busy every second of the day this past week! But it's really coming along: very exciting!

I did purchase my Toto through a seller I found on eBay (ebuildersmerchant) but it wasn't an actual auction... I emailed them -as well as several other online retailers- with my list of plumbing and fixtures and asked for bids. I can't say enough good things about ebuildersmerchant.... their prices were gret, and the service was wonderful. Excellent communication, very fast shipping, etc.

So that's the glass mosaic tile... which will have white grout for a fairly monolithic effect. I am sooooo glad that I hired a master to install it: watching the finagling of all those corners and meet-ups of various lines, and watching Bill figure out how to match it all up, really hurt my head. I'd have been suicidal by now if I had attempted it myself, I think!

The shower and tub niches, and the shower floor, are a calacatta gold marble mosaic. I'll bet we have some pics of that for you soon :)
