I'm sorry to hear that Patti. I had to replace my furnace blower motor once and now the belt is ripped and hopefully will last the rest of the season.

I'm afraid to leave...in case of pipes breaking...but I don't know what I could do other than shutting off the water.

Carri has already offered for us to go up to their house...or bring us another heater.

I have one of those ceramic heaters. I may just sleep out in the dinning area on one of our cots.
Or the recliner...I can easily slid it into the dinning area. and I usually sleep in it for about half the night anyway.

But yes...it is time for a break.

The past two years have been hard.

I'd shut the water off and go to your daughter's house - you need your sleep.

Patti - let your taps drip. You don't need a large stream of water - but just a small stream will keep the pipes from freezing. Worry mainly about the ones near outside walls.

We have water pipes in barns - when it gets really cold - like REALLY COLD - DH lets the water tanks run over all night long. As long as the water is moving just a little in the pipes, they will be OK.

Try to use the taps that are at the end of the "line" so to speak.

Keep reasonably warm, Patti. We always let our water dribble when it gets 20 or below.

Stay warm. I wish you were close enough to come here.

Patti, fill a couple of bottles, you can close tight, with hot water and take them to bed with you. Should help keep you cozy. :)

Sorry for your trouble - seems as though it never rains, but pours!

The only way that turning off the water will be helpful if the pipes are in danger of freezing is if you can drain the water out of pipes that are close to an outside wall. Which includes blowing back through from the tap to the drain at the lower end, to clear water that doesn't run out from horizontal pipes.

Unless you have some of them very close to an outside wall, with minimal insulation between them and the wall, the possibility of them freezing overnight or through tomorrow in temperatures down to 20 degrees F. is pretty remote, I think.

If the temperature were to go down near zero, you'd have something to worry about, or at temp. higher than that, if the furnace were off for a couple of days.

And assuming that they'll have the furnace fixed tomorrow.

Pile on some quilts ... and stay warm.

Two heads are better than one, they say.

And two bodies in one bed are better'n one, on a cold night when the furnace is on strike.

Don't forget our old "family remedy" of keeping a large pot of water simmering on the cook-stove. Can you bed down in the kitchen and close it off from the rest of the house?

Electric blankets--better yet, mattress warmers--are worth their weight in platinum!

This old barn is worth it's weight in gold....It was 0 windchill outside....an actual 20 and inside stayed at 55.'

I closed off the bathroom in my bedroom and shut my bedroom door...took the oil radiator in there and it got too hot to sleep.

I stayed warm but didn't sleep...I coughed all night.
