What's with Hotmail?????

My DH has had an account with them for years. Now they want him to sign up for Windows hotmail live? It won't let us, and we'd really rather just access his old account to recover some addresses. Anyone know if we can do this, or is that information gone for good?

I still have my hotmail account and use it when I have to give an email address at a web site. I tried the newer, didn't like it and went back to the original, no problem. Can't he just say 'no' or 'not now' and open his hotmail account?

Tried that and all it does is try to open but never does.
I said not now and put in my codes and it still willnot let me access. Maybe my computer is too old and they changed so that only something newer than Windows 98SE will be allowed to access their new program.

I agree with ravencajun about labeling them as junk before deleting from your Inbox: that is helpful. I only need to do this infrequently though, as the Hotmail filters seem to correctly place this stuff in the Junk folder about 99% of the time.

I hate to sound like a dummie, but just how do I know if I have the Classic Version? It is free, but it seems I get emails from them that I don't bother reading that they want me to change...and I do not like change, unless it is a have to case and definitely for the better. I can get there...via a shortcut from my firefox toolbar...I go right to my inbox....so I have no trouble getting there...just that it is slow getting there and then everything is slow to open, or send, or delete, or move, or, or, or... again...Anyway, how do I tell what version I have now? remember now, dumb it down for me as I am still very challenged you know.

Hotmail/Live/Outlook.com (all the same!) goes down. A lot. It has nothing to do with your end's equipment. If one of their servers goes south, it drags. It shows up badly because it keeps EVERYTHING except your message headers and preferences on its servers. That includes your attachments, mail, mail aliases, and address book. You rely on their servers to be hot and spicy, and they ain't always so. If you complain (I have) they'll get back to you after things are fixed and report no problem found.

Sometimes that happens. Not often. Usually DNS server with bad or old info. I went to use my Hotmail account after a month or so and found I had no access to it but had to resign for a Windows Mail account. Once when I tried, my Yahoo account came up, making me wonder if Hotmail and Yahoo merged or something

Think somewhere down the line I had to add at least one of the following to the IE Trusted Sites list for the hotmail(email) to work;

http://*.hotmail.msn.com
https://*.live.com
https:/loginnet.passport.com

Plus if your Java hasnt been updated, that could be a glitch too.

Historically Hotmail has concerns when updating, upgrading, or changing gateways. Normally it takes a few weeks for it to all clear up. The one issue that users must remember is that full service "Live" Hotmail is formulated for high-speed connections. A user on a DUN should convert to "Live", but remain in the "Classic" mode.

Even with high speed I only recently changed to the "Live" classic version of Windows Live Hotmail. I'm not sure I want to see message previews since my Hotmail is mainly used for registering at different forums and sites like for golf companies and such. My ISP, Yahoo and Gmail accounts are reserved for regular emails.

I still use the old fashioned hotmail through MSN Messenger. I have switched to Live interface a couple of times but always come back. Right now they're offering me a new BMW to try it through the end of the month. They offer a Laptop to some people to try it right now.

I've switched back and forth between Classic (which I prefer) and Live but now neither one brings up my address book when I want to forward. Need to type first letter then choose from contacts that come up. Is this supposed to be progress? Sandy
