Becky, Harlan and family are in my prayers!! So very sad!

Annie, As always I assumed that Becky would recover nicely (that's just how I think--immature, I know). I'm sorry there is not good news to share.

Do you know if the doctors have backed off on the medication? If the coma is medically induced, they will at some point. If they haven't yet, you can't expect much change. It's a slow and agonizing process.

That reaction was a very complex one for her to make. I find it encouraging. When I think of the progress Sara made after her brain hemorrhage, even when we were warned the brain damage could be irreversible, I believe all is possible with great care, faith and hope.

As of last night they had reduced the propofol to 5, which is apparently very minimal. Hers eyes are open more of the time, but there still seems to be little response. The ventilator has been adjusted so that she can take some breaths on her own, so that's a step too.

Her daughter washed her hair for her today, but the doctors are still limiting visitors and stimulation as they are trying to keep her calm.

Maybe tomorrow...

It may seem as if they are just little steps but they are very big steps.

You sound tired Annie, not your normal, tough, " gotta keep moving forward" self. My thoughts continue to be with Becky, her family and especially you.

Annie, I'm just seeing this. Healing prayers are going up to Becky and her family. I tend to agree with chase...very small steps but they may lead to big ol steppin steps. I'm praying that all will be well with Becky. Please keep us posted.

Sharon, I am tired. Between Ashley, who is pregnant and demanding and crabby, Stepmom who is crazy and crabby, Elery and Dave who procrastinate until the last minute on everything and make me crabby and crazy and the office/boss and driving round trip 100 miles to see Becky, I'm about whupped.

Just when I was ready to cave in, I got this message about Becky from her daughter:

"My mom has been OFF the vent ALL day, just using oxygen through her trach! They are planning on resting her on the vent tonight, and then try just oxygen again tomorrow. She just got back into bed from sitting up in a chair. They use an awesome hoyer lift to get her back and forth until she gains back strength. She is wide awake and smiling! Her funny faces are worth a million dollars! She is still pretty fuzzy with her thinking, it appears as though she doesn't know who some people are, but I think that will come with time. She has no time frame right now, and when we mentioned how long it's been she just looks confused... Her NG tube is out and she has her glasses on, and looks beautiful!! It's sooo good to see her smile!!!"

So, it appers that she fooled them all, or maybe she heard me when I told her to get her butt out of that bed, she'd been slacking long enough and she was going to miss the baby shower on Saturday....

That's great! It's a year ago that my niece had her accident and was in a coma for weeks. The doctors kept stating the most negative outcome, probably just in case the outcome was bad. But I think it made her parents and other family suffer through hellish days and nights needlessly. They should just state facts or say "we don't know" or just bug off!

Annie, from the small bit of catch-up reading on the other side it sounds like you've been really busy. I also hope you take some time to smell fall's last roses & enjoy the beauty of the season before it's time to start scooping up all those pretty leaves.

Too late, tricia, it's already time to scoop up the leaves. Funny how I got all those oak leaves and don't even have an oak tree. Hmmmm...

Plus we've had a couple day sof 50 MPH winds and if I were at The Lake I could watch those 15 foot waves and enjoy it. However, I'm not, so I'm just watching it blow down tree branches on my electric fence and blow the leaves into my yard. Oh, did I mention it's been raining for two days? At least I got my garlic planted last week.

Thanks for all the prayers of rBecky. I'm going to visit her on Sunday, hopefully there will be even more improvement. I gotta rub it in that she missed the baby shower.

Ellen, she's due the end of December, but we wanted to not interfere with Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays...

Update on Becky!! She's been moved to rehab, no clue on when she'll be released. But she recognized me on Sunday, although she confused my mother with Shirley, my stepmother. Fortunately, Mom didn't hear that, LOL, she was talking to Christopher about feeding the deer. Becky knew she'd missed Ashley's baby shower, and she remembered that her sister told her that I'd baked whole wheat/butternut squash rolls and she asked for the recipe, and told me that as soon as she got out of the hopsital she was having a potluck at her house, everyone could bring something, I could bring those rolls and she expected to be keeping all the leftovers! She still has a trach so we've been asked not to bring food, but soon, maybe.

She's been in the hospital 22 days now, and she's definitely wanting to do everything they ask of her so she can go home. It was sure good to see her....

Wonderful news.

LindaC, the docs aren't saying much, of course, but it appears that while under anesthesia she aspirated some stomach fluid into her lungs and who ever is in charge of watching for such things didn't catch it until things were so desperate that she ended up on the ventilator.

She still has the tracheostomy tube, I don't know when she'll get rid of that, but she's home and breathing on her own, uses a bit of supplemental oxygen every now and then when she doesn't shut up for a while, LOL.

It's just so good to hear her no one wants to tell her to be quiet. (grin)

Phew...I started reading this from the beginning, and am so glad there is a relatively happy ending here. Prayers that the road ahead is as smooth as it can be for Becky and family.
