My cousin was found dead yesterday

He had always been a loner of sorts, never married and lived with my aunt all his life. She passed away almost 2 years ago and he kind of disappeared until yesterday. the coroners called my cousin (his sister) to tell her they found him about 100 yards from his house near an irrigation ditch in the back yard. It appeared to them that he fell in the ditch and then crawled out and died. They seemed to suspect hypothermia. An autopsy will be done today. He was in his late 60's. He was a very quiet, but nice man. It has worried us for the last year wondering where he was. The house was in terrible condition and not lived in since my aunt died, and he was never there when anyone went to check on him. I just hope he didn't suffer. It's a mystery where's he's been and how he got along for so long.

Yesterday was Boxing Day here in Auckland, New Zealand. At 11:30 am my son and I had a glass of water in my clean kitchen and left the house. There were no flies to be seen. In fact, we use a gentle plant scent that bugs dislike to keep them out and it works. There are no chemicals in the scent. 3 hours later we returned to a kitchen floor just full of dead flies. They were everywher. At least 45 of them. Today, it happened within a half hour from when I had a breakfast bagel, to when I got up for water. We do not have a heat source, or gas source anywhere in the house. It’s warm here (summer time). Any ideas??

I still have 70 pound black bird dog Beau, 30 pound Honey and Spanky the little female cat who missed the lesson on killing rodents. Spanky weighs about 8 pounds and she plays with mice but loses them. I worry about Spanky because I think the white dog may have killed Puffy. Spanky is the only one who can intimidate Honey; she slaps him for no reason and he is afraid of her. I keep thinking about where I could put a fence but cats don't stay behind fences anyway. A fence could protect Honey but he has a very big yard behind the electric wire and shock collar radio fence and still gets upset when Beau and I are in the garden where he can't go. I live in the country about 1/10 of a mile off the road and I like my animals to be free to run and explore. That is more dangerous for them. Honey and Beau play with the white dog and I can't get Beau to run it off. It is never here when I am outside but I know it is coming because it moved a bottle of Windex that I left outside. I found the Windex outside the radio fence area where Honey can go. Beau is a mature dog and does not fool around with Windex bottles and solar lights which are also being moved here.

EG - I "fondly" remember the stove! Isn't that what started it all? Ok - so you are a redneck, right? That means armadillos 'n guns and other wild critters..yada yada. Are you still a redneck when you are sweet? Or shall we keep that a secret? I really need an education in how the rest of the country lives. Now I am not trying to be silly here but the notion of owning a gun and actually needing it on a daily basis is sooooo foreign to me. My dad used to hunt (in the fall hunting season) and shot trap and skeet (???) but that is the only time I have ever come into contact with a gun. Obviously recreational. I suddenly feel so ignorant about the ways of the world. Very sheltered in a princessy kind of way. Uggg....this has reminded me of a very unpleasant thing. When I was about 10 years old, my dad came home with the remains of a moose that he had shot and he had the liver in a green garbage bag. As he climbed the stairs to our 2nd floor walk-up the liver flipped out of the bag. Blood everywhere! Maybe that is what scarred me for life. To this day, I kill nothing. Not ants or bugs. If they show up in my house,, I escort them outside.

I find her death so very very sad. I can associate every single Whitney song with some sort of milestone in my young life. My heart is broken for her young daughter, and her close family. Another example of an extremely gifted, talented celebrity who fell victim to the evils of drug use. I don't care about the details of her final moments, and reporters that fill in the public of all the gory details are definitely sensationalizing the story. There is no need for the public to know all of the details. However, it is no secret that Whitney struggled with drug use for years, and when interviewed she called herself her worst enemy. I come from a family in which alcohol and drug abuse shattered us and cast a shadow for years to come. My mother was only 23, and had just given birth to me when she received the phone call in the middle of the night, that her closest brother had overdosed and died at the age of 21. My mom was 1 of 5, and second oldest, her father died at 42 when she was 12 from alcohol poisoning. I can't begin to tell you what an awful legacy this left, the dysfunction my mother grew up in perpetuated through my childhood, and that of my cousins as well since my mom and her siblings were so affected by the deaths of their father and brother, but chose to hush it all under a rug, and turn to the bottle themselves. It makes me ill what drugs, alcohol, prescription drug abuse does to human beings. No one on this earth started out as an addict, and they all should be treated as humans that need help to get them back to what they once were before affected by the evils of drugs and alcohol. Sadly many family members try in vain, as my grandmother did with my uncle. He was back from inpatient rehab for 48 hours when he was found dead. So very, very sad. May Whitney rest in peace, free from the demons that tormented her here on this earth. And my her young daughter find the strength to get through this tragedy.

Not sure how long he's been dead....sounds like maybe a day, a week or so. Not for 2 years though. I'll hear more tonight when I hear from his sister. she went today to make arrangements, they live about 2 hours apart, so it's a full day for her.

Vikki, I lost my closest cousin last week. He was 63. I'm sorry for your loss. It's sad to think he died alone, as did my cousin.

Thank you all.....I still haven't heard from my cousin (his sister) yet. I can imagine it was a long hard day for her. I hope to hear something soon. It is sad that he died alone, I just hope he went quick, I hate to think he laid there for days in the freezing temps. Such a horrible way to go.

Keeping your family in my thoughts. I'm so sorry. I had a cousin in a similar situation. Our family didn't learn of his death for two years.
