not looking good for my cousin Dorothy

If I've posted this here already please forgive me for doing so again. I know a couple times I typed most of it and didn't submit it. but I just don't remember. But she needs all the prayer she can get.

She is the cousin who I always talk about have lunch and doing crafts with once a month and then we all go out for lunch once a month also.

Her mother raised me, when my mother died. Our mothers were sisters. So from the time I was 7 years old, Dorothy was my big sister.

She has been being treated for fibromilaga(spelling is as close as I can guess)

Then a few weeks ago (maybe 4 or 5) she started getting blood clots. But was on blood thinner. Then a couple weeks later she got really sick. It was bowel blockage. They did surgery on her. Her female organs were full of cancer and it had gone over to her colon, that was why she had the bowel blockage.They took all of her colon and all the female stuff. Also there was another big mass of cancer that they just left. Said they could give her chemo but it wouldn't do any good.

As I'm typing this I'm thinking "did I post this already?"...if so forgive me.

They also told her it wasn't necessary for her to feel pain and if it was getting too bad to let him know and he'd order more for her. It sounds to me like he is just going to keep her comfortable. She said she hoped to have a little time because she wanted to get her will in order.

She seems so strong. It just breaks my heart. When I left today she said "come here I want a hug" then said I love you. I'm one who easily says "I love you" but this family is not. So I know she must have really meant it. I really don't want to lose her.

would you all who pray, pray for her that she doesn't suffer.

I don't think you told us Patti. I am so very sorry to hear about your dear cousin, I hope she won't suffer.

Thanks. My Mom took the pic a few years ago and I liked it so much I've always kept it. I trained SD on the support for her and have planted almost all of her roses etc. Yes, SD reblooms. She does tend to bloom late like 'The Fairy', but once she starts, is usually without bloom all season once it is mature. Very minimal fragrance to my nose. Training the canes is very easy because they tend to be very flexible. However, she has a few of those down-turned prickles so she will latch on to you if you're not careful. Whatever you do, don't pull away quickly. I've learned this lesson the hard way...

LindaC, the docs aren't saying much, of course, but it appears that while under anesthesia she aspirated some stomach fluid into her lungs and who ever is in charge of watching for such things didn't catch it until things were so desperate that she ended up on the ventilator. She still has the tracheostomy tube, I don't know when she'll get rid of that, but she's home and breathing on her own, uses a bit of supplemental oxygen every now and then when she doesn't shut up for a while, LOL. It's just so good to hear her no one wants to tell her to be quiet. (grin) Annie

FWIW, I actually think buying them dinner in their "town" is a bit awkward and certainly unnecessary. To me, one buys a meal for someone who visits them on their turf, partly really to say "I have a great place to share with you". One also might buy a meal for those who are struggling or lesser off, or junior in some way (young relatives, employees, etc). Or, if one were a houseguest and wanted to reciprocate; or if you golfed at their club. In the situation you describe, ostensibly you are going a little out of your way and giving up some resort time to spend with them. And, it is their turf. If anyone should pay for the group, it would be them IMHO. I'd be a bit surprised if they did not. All of this is to say that I think you have no need to do or give anything, even if you expect her to give you a book. (Which is a minor enough gift that it does not require reciprocation). But, if you did want to give something, I would make it small and personal and, unique to your area of the country. If it's small enough, it hardly matters what it is as long as you like it. When a recipient receives a small gift they really can't be burdened by not liking/needing it , etc. And IMHO you live in an area that is unusual and interesting to most; I think something "indigenous" to your area is a perfect. A small bowl or box? Or even a small frame.

How wonderful!! A friend painted a picture of my old barn (at our other place) as a surprise for me. She even included two of the horses in it....which was a little funny because they were boarded horses, not mine, but it is a treasure and I so appreciate it.

Patti, I don't think you have posted that info at the KT, and if you have, it doesn't matter. You need to share whatever you feel like sharing with us. You know that we will respond with love and understanding. I will certainly pray for Dorothy and for you. I am so very sorry! Bettye

So very sorry to read about your "Big Sister". She sounds like a very special person. How lucky you are to have such a special relationship with her. My hopes and prayers that she doesn't suffer.

How difficult this must be for you.

I lost a cousin about a month ago, and even though we were not close - I felt a trememdous loss, like a part of history went along with him.

I hope that you can find some comfort during this very sad time.

I hope that you'll be able to find some extra time to spend with her in the next while, as she is able, to talk over good times together.

Quite likely she'll mention some things that you'd forgotten, that you can treasure after she leaves this life.
