My cousin's been at it again! (2 pics)

Working from a photograph of my house taken in late summer, my cousin painted this for me:

And while I've been having fun digitizing some of my dad's old photos, she's been having fun turning some of them into paintings. Here's the two of us as toddlers:

I'm the lucky recipient!

tcstoehr- Whenever I've had a shoot "harvested" by a squirrel, they munched the entire growing tip, and that finished it off. (Before I started protecting them, I'd sometimes come out in the morning and there would be a whole 6"-8" top gone.) Maybe you interrupted the culprit in the act, or maybe it didn't like the taste. (In my situation, they loved them!) As I mentioned, you'll either see new growth soon or not, and that will be your answer.

Thanks for all the kind words... It seemed like I was waiting FOREVER for CJ to open! :o) I was so excited when I saw I got two flowers for the first bloom. The Shooter's show it as a little more vibrant, so maybe as it sets in the colors will get clearer. It sure is pretty though! Barb - I did get to go to the DL sale...and I was a little disappointed also. I guess being my first one, I thought that it would have been larger w/more variety. But, since there were a few there that I wanted and some interesting seedlings, I think I did ok (11 including that mystery bonus)! Maybe if we join and add our stock it WOULD be bigger... what time were you there? The iris room was incredible!

muktowngal... Thank you (and others) for your complements. I think I'm around 480 varieties... a few duplicates, but still, under 500 total. The large garden in the panorama has most of the varieties in it... around 400. The neighbor...they moved in a year before us and the previous owners left them a few hosta. That S&S in the pic was a puny 1-eye and was not doing well. It's grown so much in the 5 years since we've been here. Almost all of their others were added around 2008-09. I gave them the Royal Standards in that pic, and a few others that are not in the photo. I plan to thin out a few of my duplicates and will probably give them some more, since they're willing takers! Both my neighbors are good about keeping a nice landscape and I'm thankful for that. My rear neighbor... not so much.

Scanning my dad's negatives again (2 pics)

Anne, I was talking to the Canon tech support guy the other day (because I messed up my connections when I changed computers), and he said my scanner, the 9950F, was a great model because it scans different sizes of negatives. (My dad had several cameras, and produced negatives in several sizes.) According to him, Canon isn't making one like that anymore because of low demand for this feature. I know the current models will scan 35mm film. I think you'd have fun scanning your old family negatives. If your scanner doesn't handle the size you have, you could look for a used model that does.

She does, Debby. She's also a genius on the sewing machine (as were our mothers), and has had success with freelance toy design (soft sculpture).

I love them! My dad has taken up painting and he paints a ton, but they are not that good - (he'll be 78 next Sat)

How wonderful!!

A friend painted a picture of my old barn (at our other place) as a surprise for me. She even included two of the horses in it....which was a little funny because they were boarded horses, not mine, but it is a treasure and I so appreciate it.
