I had a date

Hi, everybody!

When something terrible happens in my life, this seems to be the first place I come running for support, and you've all always been there for me.

BUT now I want to tell you about something wonderful :)

About six months ago, I met a widow in my young widow support group. He's actually younger than me by a couple of years and his wife was killed by a drunk driver. He also has three kids, similar ages to mine.

We started dating a few weeks ago and things are great. We "get" what each other is going through and connect very well.

He makes me laugh and he is very easy to talk to -- probably the two most important things to me. Oh, and he's a great kisser, so that helps. ;) (sorry, ladies I don't have any more details than that!)

Who knows, maybe nothing will come of it, but I now know that I can be happy again some day.

And THAT makes me want to cry...good tears.

Love you all and miss you.

Yep, I'm still climbing the curve and likely will be for a long time, judging by your comment. I'm actually a much better photographer ( amateur ) than what the photos I posted allude to. There's only one good photo I ever posted to this GW Site. The most of them are just 'pictures' to convey visual support for my verbage. This dang digital camera is nice, but ... really has some serious limitations when it comes to getting artistic. I have a Minolta XE-7 SLR that I use when I want to do some art. And additionally, I use Photoshop 7.0 to manipulate what I 'scan' in from negatives. The digital camera allows me to skip the negative development, but there is very little control over exposure, depth of field and no interchangable lenses. The digital only give one the ability to get instant photos, kinda like the polaroids did back in their hey day. The best one can do is frame the shot and hope the internal electronics handles the light well enough to get a decent pic. I seriously need to get something better like an EOS. But thanks for you comments. Good News! I just affirmed germination and sprouting of an Anthurium Crenatum ... something new has started to grow!

How to date an old GE 40' range
Q
Comments (14)
That's what I was thinking too actually... I've never dated a range before, but I hear they're really hot !! And don't call it a 40" range. It's only 39 ! Joking (and really bad puns) aside, I'm pretty sure that range is from the mid- to late 1960s. That's when GE used those mega-pushbutton controls on their higher-end ranges and cooktops. I used to have a blender from the same era that had similar controls - why use a boring rotary knob when you can have 14 buttons and make it look really complex? The "WH" at the end of the model number indicates white color. GE still uses that nomenclature - WH for white with black or chrome controls, WW for white with white controls. I noticed on your blog that you had the 220V plug changed "to a newer one". Be careful - do NOT plug it into an outlet and/or circuit of either higher or lower amperage than the placard on the stove indicates, and be sure both the stove and outlet are properly grounded (modern American and Canadian 220V plugs have four prongs - two hot, one neutral, and one ground.) Be aware also that the plug and cord you found on the stove may not be original or correct. I see there are two 120V outlets on the back panel. OMG that would never be allowed by modern electrical code - right behind a burner where the cord could easily touch it, burn up, and catch fire. The fact that those are *grounded* outlets by the way is one of the things that clues me into a likely 1960s vintage. Grounded outlets (which for 120V have three slots rather than two) were rare in 1952, since the things you'd likely plug into it, such as toasters and coffee makers, generally used ungrounded and unpolarized two-prong plugs back then. I often see old advertisements and brochures for appliances (and everything else) sold on eBay; even if you can't find your exact model, searching on "1960s GE" or "1960s General Electric" or "'60s GE" etc. should turn up similar-looking ranges or cooktops - just find the ones that look most like yours and note the year. Actual old appliances also show up occasionally on eBay or Craigslist. And if you have a nearby library that has old issues or microfiche of magazines aimed at homemakers or home entertainers, they'll often have appliance adverts too. Finally, Google "old stoves" and you'll find lots of people and places that restore and sell old stoves that can help you identify yours. Oh, and always give it a nice, sweet kiss goodnight....

Ellen, welcome to my world, where EVERYONE is taller than me. Even you. (grin) Karen, we all missed you, I would love to see you again, and Pam, one of these days we'll meet up, I'm sure. And you'll be taller than me too... CC, that would have been great fun to meet you too. Maybe on my next trip out to visit the California boys, we'll be driving that one, I'm betting. kev111 - boy do I feel for you, I feel your pain! I live with a guy and his 18 years old son. We have lived together for a little over 1 year but have been friends for about 5 years. The story with the son is that my BF received full custody 4 years ago because BM could not handle him and her husband said it's me or him so off to dad the kid went. The kid had quite a nice life with mom - golf lessons, baseball, football, every electronic known to man but the kid is one of these who wants it all without having to do anything for it. Plus the son was not allowed to see his father for 1 year because the son made an abuse claim to a psychiatrist. This kid is a mess and no one deals with it. When I first moved in he cursed and screamed about everything at everyone including me. I would like to say I provoked the outbursts but I always tried to smile and be happy (it was the beginning of a new relationship) but the kid's attitude is horrendous. No respect for anyone, used to take my stuff use it return and not care whose it was. The theory he liked the best was it's my house not yours yet I live there...what logic. He also smokes pot, in the house, and has been caught doing this a number of time (plus outside in our backyard). He has become a slob in the main part of the house by not doing anything (and I mean anything). When the son got caught dealing drugs the parents sat down, figured out how to get rid of all paraphenalia and then took him out and bought him a great new cell phone (BM actually took him for that weekend). His father does not hand down any punishments at all - no reprecussions for any action. If the son curses at me like he did recently for taking his flip flop out of the hall closet (I thought they were his dad's since I hadn't seen anyone wearing them in a year) his father asks if I yelled back - he doesn't get mad that his son is being so disrespctful. His father and I cook for him, we can't make any arrangments with friends immediately after work because we have to go home first to feed his son or give him money for food even tho we have a freezer full of food. He spits, throws cigarettes wherever he wants, throws food on the front lawn because he just doesn't care. My BF does nothing, he cleans up after him, fixes his car because the 18 yr old doesn't want to work, also the son is still in High School and hopefully will graduate in June (unfortunately there is no guarantee). I know I am all over the place with descriptions but I am at my wit's end and reay to just move out. I don't have the ability to say to him it's me or the kid but something has to give and the BF does nothing. He used to get mad and yell at him and now there is no yelling, no frustration, nothing except the BF getting mad at me if I don't feel like cooking, cleaning, etc. because he feels like I am not pulling my weight yet videodrone gets away with doing nothing at all. Now, I yell over everything and have been told that if my yelling doesn't stop I can get out. I feel like since I knew him and I knew the son I should not have assumed that I could magically change things so now I just feel like I am losing a man who really has a big heart because of his son. I can relate with your current circumstances, if you figure out what to do please let me know because I would love to be able to get past this but right now leaving is my only option.

Well, good for you! I am so very happy, not only because you are spending time with a nice person but also because this will give you the confidence you need to get back into the world.

I think shared experiences help people to connect. My sister died of cancer at age 51. Her husband remarried after ten years. The woman he married was a neighbor whose husband also had died of cancer around the same time. They have children about the same ages, who even had gone to the same schools.

It would be great if he turns out to be "the one". Even if he doesn't, at least you've got someone to smooch for awhile. I'm happy for you.

Lori, that's great news. And don't listen to those people on the stepfamily forums either, Elery and I get along just fine with each other's families, including all six kids and 7 grandkids, with another one on the way!

So, have you cooked for him yet? Come on, that's what we really want to know, LOL.

Jessy, you are so bad. I was just "entertaining" myself a couple days ago with the Stepfamily forum. Especially the threads about a dress? I presume those folks go there because they need a place to vent. The happily meshed families aren't looking for an outlet, I hope.

Lori, you just keep on having fun and cross that bridge when you come to it.

(OMG Pam isn't that forum something else! Yeah, those dress threads! I keep waiting for X to happen to Y...or for A to FINALLY deal with B...etc...too bad doodlebug is gone...and TOS! Better than a soap opera and meatball/gravy fights!)

Lori I just had to come back and reread your post and cry with you a little. I think of you when December rolls around.

I posted a long response last night and it's gone. :(

Anyway, some of the things I said...

First of all, Jim, congratulations. I'm happy for you. I know you've been through alot too and it's nice to hear things are getting better for you.

Claire, I'm not sure why you say that but thank you. I am honored you think that way.

Karen, too funny. Sing away!!! :)

Annie, no I haven't cooked for him yet. But get this...he's cooking for ME tonight at his house! I'm bringing dessert (a BAKED one, people...I know what you're thinking!) Anyway, how cool is that? And no, he's not picky at all.

Lindac, yes, as a matter of fact, he does have an older brother, but my guy got all the charm ;) (can you believe I just said "my guy"?)

Sally, if you knew his last name, you'd realize how screaming hilarious that really is!!

We haven't told any of the kids about each other yet. I'm planning on doing that within the next few days I think. I want to tell Bob's brother and my stepsons first. That just seems like the right thing to do.

And by the way, I'm staying away from the stepfamiles forum, lol. I've been blessed in that department and although it's probably good entertainment, I'd much rather live with my own experiences and be thankful for them. I don't ever want to go to the dark side!

We talked the other day until 3 in the morning. I missed him as soon as I hung up. I save his voice mails and listen to them over and over again. Same with emails and texts. My cheeks hurt from smiling. It's pretty pathetic, lol. We've agreed we are both acting like teenagers. So what!

gbism, thank you for your thoughts. Very sweet of you. For you and the other new people who don't know me, I used to hang out here quite often. I spent time here because I love to bake and was learning lots about cooking, which i wasn't very good at.

On December 14, 2007, my husband of almost 18 years had a massive heart attack at only 58 years old. I tried to perform CPR, but nothing worked. I was 40 at the time and we had 3 kids, 14, 12, and 6 yrs old.

This forum, literally, saved my life. They checked in on me daily, called, and gave virtual hugs when I needed them. They cried with me and encouraged me to get out of bed and put one foot in front of the other every day.

I haven't been back much becuase I'm so extremely busy with the kids, work and taking care of the house. I don't cook or bake nearly like I used to.

So, although I don't know you, I thank you for your thoughts. I take each post on here as a step forward in my journey towards healing.

So, Jim, I gave up some gossip...whatchya got?
