How inefficient is my 40 year old gas furnace?
Comments (4)I don't see why you couldn't pump condensate all the way to the laundry sink. Our 87% boiler is a condensing type. The boiler has a condensate drain coming out of the bottom of the flue. This drain is routed to a condensate pump which hoists the water up and over my water heater, then gradually down to the washing machine drain. The boiler has been producing hot water of around 120°F lately (around 32°F outdoors). This low temperature means a lot of condensate from the flue, so the pump has been busy. I never hear the pump run, though. As far as vent noises go, I would DEFINITELY have the air intake plumbed to the outdoors if I could do my install all over again. The air intake makes a considerable "whoosh" noise while it's running. (Of course, drawing air into the house.) The blower fan does have a slight vibration that I can hear in my kitchen, which is just on the opposite side of the wall from the boiler. In the case of a boiler, I can connect an indirect-fired domestic water heater that the boiler services. This means one unit does two jobs by effectively making an additional zone. I don't know if this can be done economically with forced air heat. I can't hear any noise from my boiler when I'm outside. Then again, I don't have it vented through the wall....See MoreExperience with GE Induction Range or Samsung Gas Range?
Comments (15)I have cooked on standard and pro-style gas, electric coil, electric smooth top and now induction. This, over a 50-plus year span as an adult, and I'm a good cook. I personally feel that when cooking, one should generally pick up a pan, and not schlep it around on the range. To move food around in the pan, use a utensil, not scraping and shaking the pan on the cooking surface (TV cooks looking cool doing such, plus flipping food, etc. notwithstanding). With minimal care, your induction cooking surface will remain looking good! I clean up with Dawn on a cloth or sponge, rinse using same, and dry with a microfiber cloth. This takes care of food spills, water marks and grease splatters. Special cleaners not required... my experience....See MoreNEW GE Cafe Range - Opinions from those who have seen/used this range
Comments (22)Still in love! I did have a small issue last night that was slightly annoying - I made a frittata using a large, deep skillet with a slightly arched handle and discovered when I went to stick it in the top oven, the handle made it too tall to fit. The shelf in the top oven is fixed, so no way to make more room. Not a big deal, just something to keep in mind. The lower oven heats fast so it didn't delay me much to move the frittata down there. The other thing I have noticed is that the top oven bakes less evenly than the bottom, but since it doesn't have convection that is to be expected. I use it mostly for roasting vegetables anyway, and it does a great job there. I love the powerful burners and use the front corners more than anything else. However, the center burners get good and hot too, and the included griddle is great for burgers, etc. If you frequently use small (8" or less) pans, you might find the burners unwieldy because they are all fairly large, except for the back left simmer burner, but this doesn't bother me....See MoreHelp choosing a gas range: GE Cafe vs. Zline Duel Fuel vs. GE profile
Comments (14)I still love it. It is very sturdy and I really like the way it looks. The burners work well. It boils water quickly, but also does a very low flame for simmering. The layout of the burners is perfect and pots never feel cramped. The grates are very sturdy. I’ve used the proof function and baked bread that turned out great. I haven’t used the WiFi connection. My model is all gas, has 6 burners, front controls, a single oven and a storage drawer below. I highly recommend this range....See MoreFori
