Should the grout be the same color? Not necessarily. Will it look weird to use a darker gray on the floor and a lighter gray in the shower? Not at all. Any recommended colors for the shower and floor tiles along these lines? I've been getting stuff at Lowe's and they carry MAPEI Warm gray for the subway tile, and silver for the hex, if you lke a darker grey for the hex. Silver is actually a medium grey, but it'll appear alot darker with the white tile. Our bathroom isn't perfectly square. I think a colored grout seam that is uneven will be really obvious(that's my understanding where you would do any flubbing). Can you grout just the seam white? Can you skip grout and caulk it? Any suggestions here? Grout everything on the floor the same color. it'll actually show up more if you try doing what you suggested. It'll literally draw attention to it. What you want to dpo is make sure that you're square to the most obvious walls from the door. Especially with the hex, it won't be quite as obvious as you think, unless it's WAY out, and then nothing you can do will hide it, even using a blending color grout. One other thing-- that joint where the floor hits the walls should be caulked, but still caulk it with a caulking that matches the grout, both color AND texture. Does anyone know what the measure is for hex tile and subway? For subway, use unsanded, and for the hex, use sanded.

I wouldn't use wood and tile on the same bathroom floor as you describe... I think you might run into problems with expansion/contraction of the wood, so that the seal with the tile could be compromised. (I am not a builder so I can't say for sure.) If you want an accent strip, I think black would look fine since that's a classic look that can go with most anything; your bathroom floor doesn't have to match the rest of the house by any means. If you'd like a contrast strip that isn't black, you might consider gray. Gray and white is another classic look that could also fit well with modern decor, plus I think it looks great next to wood.

I feel for you, Marjie. It sounds like you have a leak that you need to address. But with only one full bath in the house you cannot afford the time for the whole shower pan construction. I bought my house in February, and they started the construction right away. I am still waiting for a few final details to be done, not to mention the correction for the shower problem. But at least we had a basement to live in while it was going on (complete with full bath!). Btw, our tub downstairs is that all-in-one construction (fiberglass? acrylic?), which I know isn't the dream shower you were probably thinking of, but one could probably be installed in a day or two without any tile work since it goes up the walls. It has nifty ledges on it. I'm curious what our pros on here think of that type of solution. You could still have a beautiful tile floor which wouldn't have the same waterproofing concerns. I spent a lot of money of my master bath, and I love my design, but the aggravation has not been worth it. And there is still no consensus on what is wrong, or the proper fix. Oh, and another thing. I prefer my new $36 shower head in the basement to the $500 one in the master bath that is too hard for me to turn the settings for the jets because my hands are too small. It wasn't like I got to see it before he installed it. We are updating our master bath now and using Charme Calacatta Gold mosaic tile with an accent band on the shower floor. We chose Tobacco Brown grout to compliment our pine floor. The walls are Aquarella Nanda 3x12 subway tile with bright white grout. I am going for a more neutral look and didn't want it to look too busy. I am adding a pic of the shower in progress and can update when it's completed. As far as trim, we used Benjamin Moore Harwood Putty, which is a nice white that looks great with the tile. The fixtures are Delta Trinsic in Champagne Bronze.
