upcoming update to Windows update

This is just a heads up for you to know that soon Microsoft will be pushing out an update to update your Windows update client. This will happen even if you have your auto updates set to notify only. They have done this in the past with out telling and they got some heat about doing something to people's pcs with out notifying them it would happen, so they are at least giving us a warning this time. Here is the link to their info about it.

(you may notice this has happened because you will receive a notice that you must reboot your pc or it may reboot automatically once the update has been done)

I wanted to take this opportunity to provide some background on the update and discuss the value these updates bring to you.

How Windows Update Keeps Itself Up-to-Date

Occasionally, we must update the infrastructure of Windows Update in order to ensure a high level of service quality, reliability, and operation. As part of this process, we update both the back-end infrastructure that supports the service as well as the client side code (i.e. the Windows Update agent, or client).

So what are we doing this time? Well, this particular update wonÂt really change the way the client looks or feels to you, but you may notice some improvements in the length of time it takes Windows Update to scan for updates and how quickly youÂll receive signature updates. For example, in this update, weÂve invested heavily in reducing the amount of time it takes the Windows Update agent to scan to see if new updates are available. In this case, weÂve seen some instances of the scan times on some machines decreasing almost 20 percent."

Postings on the tech support forums I am on are indicating that this update has started being pushed out. You may notice your pc telling you it has updated and needs to be rebooted even when you did not do any updates.

The only way to stop it is to completely turn off updates.
So far I am not seeing any problems related to this update, but will let y'all know if I do.

There is also another Windows Genuine Advantage Notification tool update happening, here is some info.

Hi all, My pkg. from Carol was waiting for me when I came home today: ) I It was filled with all kinds of good stuff! She sent me a wonderful 10 iris assortment. a White Japanese Yellow Flag Honey Glazed Superstition a pretty purple a red Beverly Sills a light blue heirloom Arctic Snow and Champagne Along with all the iris she sent a couple of frogs(figurines not live ones, lol) a bathsoap set a lavendar/vanilla candle a dog magnet- my husband already put it on the fridge. and a flag pin- she must of remembered I collect pins! oh and the hat! I told my husband he has to take my picture. Thanks Carol for such a great box! I did get all the iris potted tonight, so I happy about that. My husband even asked what he has to do after the operation for all the plants. It is very sweet of him, but very funny. I'm thinking don't you notice me dragging the hose around after work? lol. It is a very simple procedure. Sue/GiverNY4me, I'm glad I'm not boring you: ) I looked up Felder Rushing. He sounds like an interesting guy. I drove out to Rochester alone to the big garden show there, but I specifically went when Brent of Brent and Becky's bulbs was speaking. First of all, Merry Christmas to all and a big thank you to Kelli. In Kelli's Christmas package there were two things that were not wrapped so I enjoyed them right away and put the other things under the tree - opened them today and loved everything! Kelli sent the cutest Snowman's Garden sign, a Maxine Calendar (her sayings are so funny!), chocolate walnut fudge (yum!), brown sugar & fig shower gel (that sounds kind of "yum" as well...LOL), a lovely book called Country Living Seasons that has holiday ideas, garden information, and crafts (just my kind of book!), and a gift card from Lowe's (you can bet I will visit the garden center once it warms up...) I hope I didn't forget to list anything. There were so many packages - my family kept wondering how many more when I was opening them. Anyway, Kelli, you have been an absolutely fantastic pal all year. I don't even know how to express my thanks for all that you sent. Beth, you are welcome for the gifts I sent. We had a short year together, but it definitely was fun. (...and Jan, if you are still reading the Round Robins, it was fun sending to you as well.) I also want to thank everyone who participated in the Circle this year. So many of you remained for the whole year and were so wonderful in all that you did for your pal. The DML in in my firefox add-0ns When I go to the links that you have provided, it takes me to the very same page that installed this add-on I have Adobe Flash Player 10.0.22.87 And Adobe Flash player plugin 10.0.42.34 According to the Adobe page, the latest version is 10.0.45.2 I clicked on a picture to enlarge the pic on ebay and this message came up. I re-installed the OS and sp3 and Internet Explorer 8. I've got it down to this error: Service registration is missing or corrupt http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971187 The automatic fixer doesn't fixit and I don't understand the manual instructions. It wants me to look at a registry key but doesn't specify EXACTLY which one. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\(sid)\Patches\(squid) replaced with ( and ). How do I find SID and SQUID? My update client installed with no problems or concerns. Like Ravencajun mentioned I noticed when I was notified to reboot the computer.

I did a Microsoft update today and the only thing that came up was a security thing for XP SP 2 and another thing I opted out of. And of course it wanted me to update to XP SP 3. I was not asked to reboot. Maybe I got it the last time I updated, I do remember in past updates reading about something to make sure you had authentic software.
