upcoming update to Windows update

This is just a heads up for you to know that soon Microsoft will be pushing out an update to update your Windows update client. This will happen even if you have your auto updates set to notify only. They have done this in the past with out telling and they got some heat about doing something to people's pcs with out notifying them it would happen, so they are at least giving us a warning this time. Here is the link to their info about it.

(you may notice this has happened because you will receive a notice that you must reboot your pc or it may reboot automatically once the update has been done)

I wanted to take this opportunity to provide some background on the update and discuss the value these updates bring to you.

How Windows Update Keeps Itself Up-to-Date

Occasionally, we must update the infrastructure of Windows Update in order to ensure a high level of service quality, reliability, and operation. As part of this process, we update both the back-end infrastructure that supports the service as well as the client side code (i.e. the Windows Update agent, or client).

So what are we doing this time? Well, this particular update wonÂt really change the way the client looks or feels to you, but you may notice some improvements in the length of time it takes Windows Update to scan for updates and how quickly youÂll receive signature updates. For example, in this update, weÂve invested heavily in reducing the amount of time it takes the Windows Update agent to scan to see if new updates are available. In this case, weÂve seen some instances of the scan times on some machines decreasing almost 20 percent."

Postings on the tech support forums I am on are indicating that this update has started being pushed out. You may notice your pc telling you it has updated and needs to be rebooted even when you did not do any updates.

The only way to stop it is to completely turn off updates.
So far I am not seeing any problems related to this update, but will let y'all know if I do.

There is also another Windows Genuine Advantage Notification tool update happening, here is some info.

I re-installed the OS and sp3 and Internet Explorer 8. I've got it down to this error: Service registration is missing or corrupt http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971187 The automatic fixer doesn't fixit and I don't understand the manual instructions. It wants me to look at a registry key but doesn't specify EXACTLY which one. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\(sid)\Patches\(squid) replaced with ( and ). How do I find SID and SQUID? Here is the latest plan from the architect. I do think I am going to move forward with this and cut back on one other remodeling project in the house to help make up some of the cost difference. -The architect flipped the bathroom. -He extended the wall on the left, which will have a long window above. He left one slider to get the bikes out. I like the wall as it adds more privacy from the road/driveway. -He added a door out of the garage to the back yard. - He added 8" in width by moving the wall closer to bedroom 3, so now the room is almost 13'8". But I am thinking I might just move it back to 13'. -Now, do I want a slider where the parrot cages are with access to the backyard? I kind of think I do. I can see myself pushing them out there to clean them (although they are fairly easy to clean with Lysol/bleach wipes). I could see this as a dog room also for someone else with access to the backyard. As it stands now, I might put a fence as in the third pic, and let a dog use bedroom 3 with a doggie door to the fenced area. - Th ctr. Is suggesting a door in the six foot opening into the laundry to keep the AC separate. I have no idea what to put there. Thank you!!! :)

I would live in the house for six months to a year before you spend any money on the kitchen. During that time make notes of the things you like and ideas for change. It would be a waste of money to change out the backsplash, then decide you want to change the range hood or the counters. Get your idea book crammed with pictures and then look at them for the theme that attracted you to them. Years ago I had lots of pictures marked in all my magazines (remember magazines?). When I looked at the collection, I realized the common theme was blue. That told me the direction to take in my new house. Your kitchen is beautiful and functional for now. Walk around with your cup of coffee early in the morning to discover what you like about it. Sip your glass of wine in the evening while you contemplate the changes that will bring you the most happiness for the money.

Ok, you've convinced me to go with dark sashes and muntins! Thank you for the feedback! Some more variations (I'm kind of obsessed). Bottom left is existing window frame colours with muntins added, and stucco painted (tudor boards kept the existing colour) Bottom right is dark sashes, a taupe-y casing, and both stucco and tudor boards repainted. (Top left existing, top right was an old version with lighter muntins/sash)

My update client installed with no problems or concerns. Like Ravencajun mentioned I noticed when I was notified to reboot the computer.

I did a Microsoft update today and the only thing that came up was a security thing for XP SP 2 and another thing I opted out of. And of course it wanted me to update to XP SP 3. I was not asked to reboot. Maybe I got it the last time I updated, I do remember in past updates reading about something to make sure you had authentic software.
