Netla, I used to have acid reflux when I was heavy and it's pretty much gone. I filled up my last prescription in June of last year and never took one pill again. Occasionally, if I've had too much, I might have a little upset which can be remedied with over the counter medication (happened twice). Anyway, weight is a huge factor with acid reflux so if you lose, you may just get read of the GERD, too. I also have some sort of hernia but it doesn't bother me anymore unless I do a very specific kind of abdominal exercise. I think it's great you're doing this. Solidarity!

It's my second day here and tomorrow the full program begins. The first day was just registering and getting settled, and today has been a series of appointments with the doctor, the nutritionist and the sports coach, but I did get into a water aerobics class, which was great, and then I had a swim after dinner.

It has rained steadily since late last night and now it's foggy as well. I hope the weather will clear up for our first walk tomorrow.

Good luck Netla -- So glad you're able to set aside this time to focus on yourself and on getting healthy, and so glad you'll be doing it with lots of well-trained professional support... You can do it!

How's it going Netla?

I have been going through an exercise program with two to three 40-50 minute periods of exercise per day, a mixture of hiking, swimming, strength training and gymnastics. We are attended by a team of nutritionist, nurse, doctor, gym instructor, physiotherepist and psychiatrist. I have also been getting massages and relaxation baths. The food is vegetarian with fish twice a week and while I am eating less than I am used to, it doesn't matter as the food is quite filling and there is no need to go hungry. I have only lost about 4-5 pounds so far, but the aim is to continue to exercise and eat moderately in order to lose about 25-30 pounds in one year. I feel stronger and have better stamina than I did before I started here, which is good. Now I have to decide what kind of exercise I want to use when I get out of here. I'll probably join a gym, and continue to go hiking, and go swimming whenever I can.
Now if it would only stop raining I would be perfectly happy. It has rained in southern Iceland every day since the 20th of August and we are getting a bit tired of it. Ike dropped in the other day and blew over some trees, but of course "his" strength was only a fraction of what it was when "he" passed over the US and the Caribbean.
