Bringing Symbols of Luck into Home Design
Your home is a place where you should feel lucky. If the home is filled with warmth, love and things that you appreciate then lucky is certainly a feeling that you'll experience. However, you can also add specific symbols to your home to increase luck.
Each culture has their own beliefs about what symbols are lucky. Horseshoes, four leaf clovers, angels, the Caduceus, dragonflies, Buddha statues and a trio of keys are just a few examples of things that are commonly considered lucky. You can incorporate any of these things into your home design to boost the feeling of luck in the house.
You should also think about the things that make you feel lucky personally. If you have a lucky number or you really relate to your birthstone or zodiac sign then those things could bring you a feeling of luck. Typically, these things are inserted into the home in small ways (hung as artwork, placed as statues) but do what you feel best about as you begin to incorporate symbols of luck into your home.

Dragonflies symbolize good luck for many people. In the home, you usually seem them on drapes or blankets. I like this option of painting a small strip of grass onto the wall and including them there.
A red front door is a widely recognized symbol of good luck. In the Chinese culture, doors are often re-painted red at the start of the year to welcome in good luck. Other culture also have positive associates with this symbol. Plus it makes for a great bold look at the entrance of your home!
Elephants are considered to be strong symbols of good luck. They are usually placed near doors or windows to protect the home from bad luck. Choose the right elephant and you'll also add an exotic look to your home.
Tigers have long been considered a powerful, lucky animal in the Chinese culture. If you believe in this, it's a great time to add a tiger to your home. This is, after all, the Year of the Tiger. I think adding it as part of a piece of artwork in the house is ideal, whether painted onto the wall like this or just framed and hung.
Adding a Buddha statue to your home is believed to bring good luck even if you aren't a practicing Buddhist. It also brings a sort of calmness to the environment. I love the choice of surrounding it with living plants like we see here although I personally might not place the Buddha in front of the mirror.
Many of us have lucky numbers. The numbers 7, 8 and 13 are popular. However, your lucky numbers could be your birthdate or anniversary as well. If you have lucky numbers, decorate them. This is a doormat with the number 2 but you can also find an array of other home items featuring the number that brings you luck. Arranging collections by grouping them into sets of your lucky number is another choice.
Bamboo is considered to be a very lucky plant. Plant it outside or else just get a small plant to be placed inside your home. Shamrock plants are another example of a lucky plant that you could add to your home.
We've all heard about wishing on lucky stars. You don't have to wait until nighttime to do that if you have stars decorating your home. An obvious time that we see this is during the Christmas holidays. However, stars can be incorporated into the rest of your home design as sculpture, the shape of a piece of furniture or part of a mural. Stars painted onto the ceiling of a child's room provide a great place for them to wish for lucky things to happen.
The cricket has long symbolized good luck in a number of different cultures. It's also a cute design choice. I love the way that this cricket picture is simple, modern and colorful.
