I always say, the easiest way to take a test is to know the answers! I'm sure you already do, but a refresh and review is helpful. I'm sure you'll do just fine. Don't over prepare or overthink it.

We work the Federal and Provincial elections as well, as a Deputy Returning Officer and a Poll clerk. We alternate rolls each time.

I had some training in Strathroy (nearby village) before being Poll Clerk or D R O in recent election(s), Anne ... you'd have had to do that in earlier years, wouldn't you?

Don't remember whether they had me do a test at the end of the instruction.

Wasn't the recent Fed election the year before the Provincial?

No info thus far, re: test or otherwise, about next year's.

Thanks for the confidence. I am going to sit down and do it tomorrow. I got a call last night and was told that people from across Ontario who have taken it are complaining about the contents of the test. Some of the questions are about computer programmes none of us use.

It just reminds me of the testing I did for a temp employment firm I did after my Mom passed away and I had to find a full time job. After the testing I was told I did not have any marketable skills for an office job which I had done for all the time I had ever been employed because I didn't pass some of the computer programme questions. I taught myself to learn DOS and at the time wasn't familiar with Windows, etc. They gave me a job giving out samples of sushi at Sobeys. I did that for a few months before I got my job at the bank. After the test I told the girl of all the accomplishments I had done during my working career and you sit here and tell me I have no marketable skills. She was doing recruitment for jobs. I said to her "you try recruiting 700 workers in less than 30 days" and see if you can do it. Or send out telexes for all the banks of the branch I worked for in Calgary during a mail strike, or write grants to apply to keep programmes open. People giving these tests have no idea what the jobs entail.

Ed, you won't have to take this test. This is for Returning Office Staff. haha I put my share of time working at the polls when I was younger and even doing enumeration door to door before that and typing up the voters lists. I got to know people and started working in the Returning Office. Gosh, it has been a long time now. I think I started in the 1980's and we were the first people who were hired to input the names into the computer for the Official List of Electors so there would be no more door to door enumeration. That was an accomplishment for sure. It is sometimes hard for people to find work in Returning Offices because the RO keeps the same key staff most of the time from Election to Election. Ed, the Provincial Election is in June and working at the polls will be a little different as computers and tabulators are being used. DRO's will scan the voter card into the computer and if ID matches they get the ballot. Once hired you will still receive training, but this time computers are involved in that training. At least that is what I have been reading online. The Federal Election was a year after the Provincial.
