Miele Dishwashers - what can you use in them for dw detergent?
Comments (20)If I take the question by OP literally, the he/she is (was?) wondering which detergents can be used in the Miele DW. I bought my Miele ~8mo back and had exact same question before making the decision. The lady at the store where I placed an order spent some time with Miele customer support and came back that as long as you use powdered detergent, you can use any brand, just that they recommend using ~1-2 tsp for a full load. I currently use Seventh Gen, Trader Joe's and a bunch of other detergents without any issue (so far!) However, if you use tablets, since those are pre-measured quantities, they recommend using either 1 per load of Miele's own, OR half-per-load of Cascade brand. I did not ask about other brands because I never use tablets but I am sure Miele customer service will tell you how much to use. Hope this helps!...See MoreMiele DW, Cascade tabs gray powdery residue on cookware finish
Comments (9)I sometimes use Cascade 2 in 1 action pacs with Bleach or with Dawn and don't have any issues. I also don't see one bit of difference between it and Cascade Complete Powder or Cascade Pure rinse formula. I can't see any differences in any of these Cascade products. The Pac is bigger than a Miele tab or an ElectraSol tab. But bigness could also be filler. Anyway I figure that if the detergent cup is large enough to hold it...then it's not too big. I would think that if you have a large dirty load then one action pac would be ok and the OP was washing pots and pans so I guess there was enough soil to deal with. You cannot adjust most tabs for your soil level and this is one of the downsides I find to using them. You can break the Miele tabs in two an you can crush them in your hand too, so this helps you control the dose better when using them. Still you have to wonder, since these tabs come in one size and all of the machines sold don't use the same amount of water in a fill, some more, some less, so I don't know what impact that has on detergent concentration...See MoreAdding Phosphates (TSP) to Miele Dishwasher
Comments (43)I'm on city water, but will say that the newer Miele tabs are also phosphate free, where the older ones that I got last year did contain phosphates. Both of theme cleaned equally well for me, but my issues was that the newer Miele tabs were creating a lot of suds in my Diamante unit, even though I was only using half a tab. It even cause the unit to trip the over-flow circuit, and I had to wait a few days before it started working again (Miele came out and checked the unit to make sure it was OK, I did show them the pics I had taken from the suds in the bottom of the unit from the Miele tabs). Since then I've been using the Method Smarty tabs from Target, which are phosphate free. I have tried a full tab and a half-tab, and don't get any suds from those, and still clean as good as the Miele tabs. See if you can get Miele to send you a couple tabs and a bottle of their dishwasher cleaner. I've used it twice before (ever 6 months) and it's supposed to clean out the entire washing system, hoses, pumps, spray arms, gasket seals, and the stainless interior. I just peal the cover off the bottle top, turn it upside down and place it in the middle rack so it won't fall over. Then place the unit on a Pots/Pans wash, and the hot water melts the wax seal on the bottle to dispense the cleaning agent into the unit while its running. After cleaning it, try the Miele tabs, but like I said, those are phosphate free, so there's no way to guess how those will work for you since you're on well water. You might also want to give the Method Smarty tabs a try too. Even though you're well water is treated at the house, are you also using the internal water softener in the Miele dishwasher? If not, you should, as some people have said it does help, even though they have a whole-home water softener/filter....See MoreSaying goodbye to Miele :l Miele Optima Dishwasher leaking
Comments (44)Well the Miele is working again :) Thank goodness my hubby is handy. When he gets some extra time he will take the old pump apart and see what went wrong ( it had to be a seal). Giving some thought to why would the seal go so soon, I am considering using powder detergent, instead of the Finish Powerball tabs. I did notice the last time I picked them up from Costco, the tabs are more concentrated now. The box claims 8x more concentrated. I am wondering if this could possibly be an issue. Since I have whole house softener, I thought I would programme the rinse agent to 2, instead of the default to 3. I will start there, since I can't remember the days before tab detergents, anymore. I think I will give Miele support a call tomorrow. I have read and re-read how to use the built-in softener, but I am a tad unsure how it really works with a whole house softener. I have my machine hooked-up to soft cold water. I live in an area with terribly hard water. 60 plus grains. I truly doubt I should programme the machine for 60 grains because of the whole house softener. As anyone who has a whole house softener, there can be days when the water is less soft (just before regeneration). I have never had any glass nor crystal etch in my machine with either powder nor tabs. I am pleased the machine is once again working. I just now have to play with detergent and rinse agent to find a happy medium of sparkling without eating my machine seals....See Morewestvillager
