What dishwasher detergent to use in new Miele
Comments (41)I was using Finish Quantum power ball and salts from SOMAT as i have hard water. I began using finishing rinse aid as well as a no name brand but I don't notice the difference. But one thing that has happened is that the lower basket on RHS has rusted and now a prong has broken off. The rust showed up before and Miele replaced basket in first five years (of ten year warranty) but said no more. When this happened again four years later, I called Miele and while I was told when I purchased the machine to use FINISH, Miele is saying it has been reformatted and is causing the problem. That or the rinse aid. OR combo. I will be buying Miele Ultra Tabs from now on and being in Canada in a rural setting, I will have to get them from the co directly. (Note I have an 18 inch d/w). I do hope there is a way to cut the tabs in two as I really don't need that much detergent given size of loads....See Moreanother Miele dishwasher detergent question
Comments (2)To my knowledge... Most if not all detergents that contain enzymes (which you want) do not contain bleach because bleach kills enzymes. Most gels do not contain enzymes and do contain bleach. I hate detergents that leave a "nice" smell because to me smell means residue. Cascade Complete Powder fits the bill and works great in my Miele. I don't come close to filling the dispenser, half-way at most if it is a particularly dirty load....See MoreMiele DW Detergent, Salt, & Rinse Agent
Comments (2)I have the G2830 LaPerla similar to the Excella. Detergents: I alternate and use a different one each week. I use powder - Electrasol with chlorine bleach(non enzyme), or Cascade Complete(enzyme). I had a disaster with Seventh Generation powder which left grit all over everything including the insides of the dw. I use Liquid Gels - Cascade Complete Gel. I don't use Electrasol Gel because it left a film all over everything. I use tabs - Miele tabs (1/2 to full tab depending on soil level), or Electrasol Red ball tabs, or Electrasol tabs with Jet dry, or Cascade Action Pacs or Electrasol Gel pacs. No problem with any of these. When using Gels I set the detergent selector to Liquid. When using Tabs I keep the detergent selector set to powder. Most powders, tabs, gels and pacs contain enzymes. Electrasol tabs and Gel pacs contain enzymes. Electrasol powder and Gel in the bottle do not. Finish/Electrasol has released their Quantum tab to the USA, although I haven't been able to find it in stores where I live. Rinse Aid: I use Jet dry Green apple with vinegar, I use Jet dry turbo, I use Miele Rinse Aid. I alternate when filling the dispenser. All of these work the same. Salt: I use Somat salt or Miele salt. Both work the same. My Dw measures the water hardness when filling as does the Excella. Like PQ said you can find your hardness in the settings menu. If the DW needs salt I think it will ask for it and if the water is consistently below 4 it won't ask. The softener adjusts the the hardness automatically and only softens the water to the extent it needs to during each fill. Between May and October my water hardness was averaging 19 gpg and the Dw performed the softener step(periodically performed before the first prewash, to regenerate the softener) every other week while asking for salt at least once. Now the hardness is down to 2gpg and there has been not been any softener step performed nor has it asked for salt....See MoreDishwasher and DW detergent small talk
Comments (4)Ci_Lantro now why did I never think of using parchment. Thank you, I'll remember that and I bake sweet potatoes frequently. Cool that we have the same dishwasher and my water is very soft city water so maybe that is the difference. Sea Sea I haven't thought to check I dont know if my heater activates on the one hour cycle. I purge a few times using the one hour until the main wash cycle fills up but generally I'm in the kitchen anyway not like I'm actually babysitting lol. I did check the wash temp on this cycle but can't remember what it was. I'm sure though that it was an acceptable temp IMO or I wouldn't use it...you know my attraction to hot water. Lol. I'm gonna have to check the temp again now or I won't stop wondering. Haha. Bjorn, yes I remember when you bought your newer dishwasher, actually I think I remember when you were trying to decide which machine and how a quick cycle was important since you host large gatherings. Looks like this turned out to be very good choices for both of us. I don't do much entertaining but with a family of five and my two sons often visiting and the fact I cook every-single-day-of-my-life (hahaha) I do really need the quick cycle and I know you cook just as much for a lot of folks. Thanks everyone!!!...See Morefauguy
