LOL, I got carded at a local store last year, and I'm 53! I was feeling pretty good except the guy behind me got carded too and he had to be at least 70. I heard the cashier tell them they'd gotten fined by Liquor Control for selling to minors and the owner said that from now on they were supposed to check EVERYONE, even if they looked 100.

Ah well, I felt good for a couple of minutes, LOL, so I know how you feel. For a minute, at least. Sigh.

I mentioned in my post that my DH ordered a beer first and HE wasn't carded! She didn't even look twice at him! LOL!

From her saying you look great, I don't think she was doing it because she was required to, I think she really thought you looked too young to drink.

Hey, I didn't SAY they carded everyone for you, Alexa, I said that's why they carded ME. Still, it was fun for a minute.....

Back when I still owned the Bar and Grille I carded a woman who was 37. She was more than happy to give me her identification but she didn't tip me any better, LOL. I blamed it on the low lighting but no one believed me. Since the legal drinking age was 21 even then, I figured I was only.....um....16 years off. :-)

Usually I figure people are OLDER, not younger. Well, that's not true either, all the time, but I've met a lot of 12 year olds who look like they're 20 lately!

I was carded a couple of years ago at the grocery store. I'm only 39, now, but it still felt great! When she asked for my ID I was a little confused until she said, "for the wine". I actually did a little hop, turned and eagerly got out my ID with a big smile. The cashier looked at me like I was a lunatic and then said that I made HER day because most people get upset when asked for ID. How can anyone over 30 be upset about that? She'd never seen someone so happy to fork it over, lol. And, she had a daughter my age. Whatever, we both went away happy for a while. :)

Yea, I am still smiling about this one.... DH no longer find it funny LOLOLOL!

In her defense, it was dark in that corner of the restaurant, so I'll go with that as her excuse ;-)

I was carded recently, and I am 61. Some restaurants say they now card EVERYONE, no exceptions, no ID, no alcohol. They've been badly burned by underage drinkers.

This is so funny, Walmart now has a screen that pops when any alcohol is purchased asking if the buyer is 40. I had to chide the girl today for not even glancing up at me! Darn it!

I can tell you why people over 30 might get upset for being carded -- my DH (he's 48) got carded last year when he ordered a beer at a restaurant. He's bald, some white hair, out of shape and definitely looks his age. We were there with our two kids -- 11 and 12 years old. The waitress looked to be a very young college student and refused to serve my DH because he didn't have his wallet with him and she couldn't verify his age! He laughed about it, but it was kind of frustrating that she actually thought he was that young. We've been to that same restaurant dozens of times and they have never asked for an ID, so I know it is not their policy.

Please don't give alcohol vendors a hard time. Police sting operations in this area involve youngsters in costume and make-up so they look much older. They act like they are in a hurry so the clerk will rush the transaction. Boom... in come uniformed police that arrest the clerk on the spot while acting like the gestapo. Nobody wants children buying alcohol and cigarettes but sometimes things get taken way to far.

I make a habit of loudly praising the clerks for carding me and remind them the police are out to arrest them. Protect your server who is probably just a kid from down the block a ways.

My DH was carded today and he is 77. That was no compliment! I call it harassment more than anything else.
