text size using mozilla

is there a way to set the text size when a mozilla window or tab is opened to always default to a larger size than it presently is defaulting to? most message boards require me to increase the text size and every tab i open also requires me to increase it. is there a way to tell mozilla to always use the larger text size? i looked thru mozilla help menus to no avail.

using a search here i found that pressing the ctrl key and moving the mouse wheel will increase/decrease font size. this is easier than going to view then clicking on increase. however, i want to have the browser always know to show the text size 1 size bigger than it is defaulting to. is that possible?

In my version of Firefox, it's Tools > Options > Content > Fonts & Colours. Alter font size to what suits.

thanks i saw that but it did not look right.

my default font is courier new and the size is 16, that seems large. now did you click on advanced? there are 4 different fonts styles and 2 sizes.

I use the bookmark tool bar that is part of firefox. At the top you have the 3 bars above where your tabs are, the one with file, view etc, then you have the middle one and then the bottom one that bottom one is the bookmarks toolbar and you can create a folder there on that bar and store your daily used bookmarks in there, I have mine set up with several folders like forums, mail, music etc and in each folder I have my associated sites, if you just have a few sites you want to use then you can do that with out making folders, When you are at a site you want to use, use your cursor on the address bar and grab the little icon of that web address that is at the right end and drag it onto the bookmarks toolbar, then it will become a link you can click on. to create the folders on that bar just right click on the bookmarks toolbar and choose new folder, then you can change the name to what ever you want. To put a site into that folder go to the website then right click on that folder and choose add bookmark here. If you put individual sites on your bar and want to change the name or shorten it just right click on it and choose properties and there you can change that. Here you can see how mine looks click on that a couple times to get full size. Now I only have 2 bars then my tabs I did away with my middle bar so, and moved some of the stuff that used to be on the middle bar up to my top bar, so I have that and then below that I have the bookmarks bar with my folders and fave sites there. see if that would help you out

Shaddy, I think you have to be using FF, it is a FF add-on. You do not need a link. In FF go to your tool bar, click on tools, then add ons. There will be a search bar in the top right corner, type "no squint" and search. it will come up, choose install and restart FF. That is one of my favorite add-ons. With my cataracts it really helps, both in font size and in coloring those glaring white pages. I didn't understand your question about the colored ink. How to Change Text Size on Monitor

first thing you need to do is find out what is the proper resolution you are supposed to use with that monitor and make sure it is set properly in your windows settings, using the wrong resolution can be damaging to your monitor. Look up your monitor and find the stats for it or look on the manual that came with it and find the stats. Go to your desktop and right click then go to the tab for your monitor and make sure the slider is set to the proper matching resolution and settings for your monitor. If you need your text size larger everywhere including on the desktop icons and text you can go into the settings there in advanced and change the dpi settings. Write down what it was set at so that if you need to go back you know what to do. change the dpi and apply and see if that helps. Read the info on the new monitor for the button on the front of the monitor and see if there is an auto set button, you may have to do some adjusting using those buttons. To increase the size of the fonts in your browser only you go into the settings options for the browser itself and change the default font size, the directions depend on if you are using IE or firefox which is it? I would do the change in the settings for default rather than doing the change of text size option in view. Just be very sure you follow the proper resolution setting for that new monitor.

People at other forums sent me the following. Perhaps this will help for someone: I found thet following explanation at http://www.saila.com/usage/tips/?print#textfield. He has some other good tips too. Here's what he says: Unfortunately, both Netscape and Internet Explorer display form fields using different criteria. Because, Netscape uses the browser's monospaced font to render text in a text field, and IE uses a variable font Â generally sans-serif typeface Â it's best to optimize the box for Netscape first. Once you've done that, use a style declaration (which older Netscapes will ignore) to stretch the box for Internet Explorer. Here are three examples. RIGHT CLICK WITH YOUR MOUSE AND CHOOSE "VIEW SOURCE" TO SEE THE SOURCE CODE FOR THE THREE BOXES. A plain Netscape 4.7 text input box: An IE 5.5 text input box, styled to match the size of the Netscape box (the padding helps vertically align the text): An IE 5.5 text input box, styled to match the size and look of the Netscape box (the border and font simulate Netscape's): -------------------------- Another guy suggested this not great solution: "I decrease the NS size by using the style "font-family: new courier" for input boxes. But it doesn't decrease them as much as I'd like." -------------------------- Another guy says: "I have the same problem with text input fields in Netscape 6. Text fields are inside table cells and Netscape makes them approximately 1/3 too long no matter what the cell widths are. I use a self-declared css class in which I have declared the font sizes and types. You could also use meggypeggies instructions then click the 'Advanced' tab for fonts and colours. There you have the option to override the web page settings and the ability to insert a minimum font size. That might work for you but I would try just using the minimum setting first and leave the override check mark there or it may mess viewing some web sites, not sure on that but you could experiment a bit.

owbist, did it. changed the font from 16 to 32 then clicked advanced and one was 16 is already 32 no doubts from what i just changed the other was 13 changed to 22. no difference. close windows opened new windows and tabs.

BUT .... in advanced there is a check box that says "allow pages to chose their own fonts, instead of my selections above".

now i did not uncheck it when i increased the fonts so i just upped the fonts again and unchecked the box. I DID NOT like the results! at a message board i use all the time the text got smaller!!!!!

i reset the fonts to what they were and checked that box off.

seems the ctrl button and the mouse wheel is the only way to do this unless someone else has any ideas.

Did you change the minimum font size? Mine was set at 9 and I changed it to 16 and that works on all the forums I visit.

when you go to the tools options fonts area then to advanced and make your changes did you remember to hit ok at the bottom for it to take effect? did you shut down all instances of firefox then restart it to have the changes go into effect?

It works for me I have mine set at 20 and 13, on min. I have None, I do have the box checked for let them choose their own size.

That is the front end for settings in your about:config file, to make changes directly to your about:config do this
open firefox in the url box type about:config go, you will see your entire about:config settings page. Scroll down till you get to the f's there will be several fonts settings listed, go to the one that is bolded for font.size.fixed.x-western you will see the columns to the right they are on mine user set, integer, 13 that 13 is the set font size, you can change that number, I suggest you write down what it was before so you can change it back should you need to. Just hilight the number and change it.
Then you will see another one bolded font.size.variable.x-western, user set, integer, 20 on mine, again you can change that number but write down what it was.
Then shut down firefox and restart it for the changes to take effect. Anytime you change any settings you always have to shut down firefox and then restart for it to show the changes so if you were not doing that in your other settings that could be your problem.

there is an add on that will save the settings for webpages for you too, go to the extensions page and do a search, I don't remember what it is called but search on text size or font size.

I use an extension called text size toolbar wHich I love you can search for it and read about it you might want it too.

yes and yes

i'll look for that extention, ok after looking at your links this appears to be 1 step vs 2 steps (view and increase). pressing ctrl and moving the scroll wheel is as easy or easier. i don't like having to move and click the mouse, just me. ;~0

seems there is no way to have it set and remain set for instance in email or word you can set the default font style, color and size and they remain that way until you change them.

actually i just noticed something! my text (font size) is a good size and i just powered on pc a few minutes ago. maybe all the monkeying around in tools, options, content did do something!
