blue star griddle- brown spots?

Hi:

I love this website for providing great information. I have a new 36" blue star stove with griddle. I love the griddle, but I admit, it is easier to clean a pan than the griddle. We had an appliance guy come out to fix a wire that was cut on the appliance. He told us to turn it to 250 degrees with vegetable oil on it for 2 hours to clean. Someone else told us to not put soap on the griddle.

How do I clean "browner" cooking spots on the griddle? I guess I want it to look as new and clean as possible. I want to use the griddle more, but want to be sure how to clean it best before using it frequently. I loved, loved, loved making Saturday morning breakfast all on one surface. Cleaning this has turned troublesome now.

I know that it always needs oil on the surface to keep from rusting.

Anyone can help me?
