With another thrift shop find.

It's 3 pieces of sheet aluminum, hinged together to stand up in an open sided box....and the engraved printing says "Mrs. Cordrey's Spatter Shield" and below that:

mfg. by Letha O. W. Cordrey

4071 Kansas St. San Diego, Calif

patent applied for"

Don't cha just love it!

I wonder who Letha Cordrey was and if she ever made any money from her spatter shield.

Anyone else addicted to strange old timey kitchen doo dads?

Linda, a quick Google search reveals that Letha did get her patent for a cooking/splatter shield for camping in 1952. She was born in 1885 and went to high school in Ohio but was listed in San Diego in the 1920 US census!
Now I'll go back to work LOL!

You're a better googler than I am...I did find that she got a patent...but didn't find her personal info....
Wonder if she had any other inventions...and wonder who made this shield for her? it's very well made...and stores in a very little space....which is getting to be more and more important!!

Linda, Nope, we decided not to fly in because our jet is being serviced. LOL Lee, It's certainly not as exotic as your birthday dinner. Other Cathy/Maddie, I hope it's still good; I haven't heard much about it lately. Other Kathy/CdL, I ran into the little ones at the grocery store a few hours ago so I was happy--well not really, they were with the other grandma--but better than nothing. Sooz, All month? That's a thought.

Thanks all for the birthday wishes. DH did come through--last night he was on the field coaching and I was shivering (yup, it got down to 64 degrees last night). He came to the fence and said "here, take my jacket, happy birthday".

She was certainly clever! I'm still fighting splatters.

Like others of you, I have invented a lot of things but they never got past the thought. Like Big League Chew-Shredded Bubble Gum. DH always chewed tobacco when he played ball, I thought if I could shred bubble gum and put it in a pouch, he might give up the tobacco.

Hello all,
I was doing a google search for "Mrs. Cordrey's Spatter Shield" and found your posts. To answer some of your questions regarding this post I can tell you my father's company "Robot" manufactured the spatter shields for Mrs. Cordrey. In fact my mother still uses one! Yes they were well made!! My father, a retired engineer was/is a perfectionist! I would love to get a hold of one of these wonderful spatter shields myself...can't find anything on the market that compares! Hope this answers some of your questions!
