Looking at that kitchen...then the date of 1837. Silly me...it's a servant's kitchen! Must never have been updated or they'd have used newer pictures. Oh man, I bet it's a mess?!

I've driven past it quite a few times, so I know the house from the outside. I have friends who live around the corner on Gravel and they have just completely remodeled and theirs is BEAUTIFUL. I'm curious about this one, too!!

I'll call this morning Elizabeth & see if there will be an open house soon. They had one about a month or six weeks ago but we forgot about it! :( I was just going to call our broker but it sounds like more fun to tour it with you! The listing says that the stove stays...also, if you look on the far right side of that picture...isn't that an old wringer washer? They hauled dumpster(s) full of 'stuff' out of that house so I wonder what's left?

Gravel's a great street also. We looked at the 18th century cape on the river immediately across from the Morgan's berth. An estate thing. Three siblings that couldn't make up their minds what to do with the property so I think it's leased for a year...that was back in January or February. The house has been pretty well stripped of its history but the site is worth $1.5M...at least. I'm sure the Historical Society would insist anybody purchasing that property must attempt to put it back together. ($$$$) Being on the Groton side though helps 'cause Stonington is darn near impossible to work with. We're in the historic district & my neighbor wanted to pour a 4x6' concrete pad with a lean-to roof coming off the garden shed for their trash cans. Stonington wouldn't allow it! Ridiculous. We wanted to add a 1/2 bath. Stonington said we'd have to raise it 8' in the air! Again, ridiculous.

I'll let you know when the next open house is. I'm looking forward to seeing the basement!! Too bad it's been poured w/concrete but the timbers should still be there plus the fireplace supports.

Speaking of fireplace supports...if you look at the above listing...off to the right of the webpage you'll see another listing by the same realtor....on Pequot Trail listed at $675K. We seriously considered that one about a year ago. Built 1790. The cooking hearth fireplace w/oven is fantastic. The site, while not near the water, is probably the prettiest I've ever seen...about a 5 acre meadow filled with daffs & bluebells...gorgeous! There's a pond w/waterfall & about 1.5 acres of perennial gardens. But, there's about a 1/2 mile private road to access the place. Plus, there's a Stonington approved 1.5 acre building site at the far end of the meadow you could sell off...worth about $150K+/-. The owners are a childless couple...she works for Pfizer & was transferred to England about 2 years ago & he's a vet staying in the house until it's sold. The house is FILTHY. Cats. Price is down exactly $200K from when we looked at it. Anyway, the fireplace...in the basement the fireplace sits on the most humongeous piece of ledge I've ever seen in a basement! Even more amazing, the timbers are not hewn...just trees still with their bark. It's worth touring just to see the basement & construction. That house isn't going anywhere anytime soon! I think the only reason it's not sold is because it's so dirty & filled to the ceilings (literally) w/junk. She's a research doctor & they have a seriously out of control book habit. It needs to be gutted so, again, $$$ to make it liveable.

Forgot to tell you the laundry in the Pequot Trail house is in the attic! The attic's been finished into a family room, bedroom, bath, & yep...the laundry. So, you'd have to haul baskets up the Captain's staircase to the second floor & then up the even steeper attic stairs...I don't thinks so!! Yeah, the place needs a lot of work but the site is drop dead gorgeous.

I can show you pictures of my house, if you like, I paid $52,000 for it 25 years ago, it's now worth $88,000, and that's with the in-ground swimming pool. (grin)

I adore the house! There's even something to be said for keeping the kitchen so long as I didn't have to cook in it. LOL Seems like a good price for the house and waterfront property to me. The very best of luck to you if you decide to go for it!

Oh, we're not looking to purchase it! I just think it's a fun house. I have a friend here that often takes me along to look at listings. I love looking at houses. This place is way more work than we'd ever want to tackle.

It's funny you posted this, cause we're trying to figure out how to re-do the kitchen of our "new" 1905 farmhouse. We were just looking at vintage stoves in books and on the internet. I've learned that they are waaaaaay over our budget, but fun to look at, anyway.

I bet it'll be a blast to tour that house.

What a fun kitchen I love that kind of old stuff I wouldnt change a thing as long as the other side of the kitchen was up to date.

Dedtired I have a Wedgewood thatÂs very similar to that stove that I will sell you for half that price.LOL I bought it in the early 60Âs for 25 dollars and have always had it in the dining room or kitchen. DH keeps his old pipes in the oven. Right now it has a few plants sitting on it along with my latest new cookbook and my great grandmotherÂs glass rolling pin. Also have the coffee grinder in my kitchen and in the pantry room I have a hotel size oak four door ice box that I use for extra beer and wine storage. I have always loved antique kitchen pieces but they are getting harder to move as we get older. The ice box weighs as much or more than a small size car even with the door off and the movers charged us extra last time. IÂm just glad I bought them back when everyone thought they were junk and sold them really cheap or gave them away.

Tricia Do post after you tour that house and let us know about the kitchen. It looks like a great house for someone who has the time and money to put her back to her original condition.
