oops. That's not a really useful thread after all...if only I could find the correct one! Let us know what you find! I need this info as well, so I'll report back if I have any luck.

I have a ruby red bluestar - RAL 3003 - that I ordered from Eurostoves. There's nothing bricky or brownish about it. It's a tough color to photograph - it ends up looking more orange-red, and I don't think it looks like that at all in person. Think of the color of an old-fashioned Valentine's candy box - it's somewhat like that. When people see it, they do say "Wow!"

We haven't moved in yet so I haven't had the chance to cook on it yet, can't wait.

DeeGee, Did you visit Eurostoves and order a range based upon their show model? If not, how did you decide on the color? If you do not mind, I will send you a photo of the showroom model and you can let me know if it is similar to what you have, considering monitor differences, of course!

Teresa - I did visit Eurostoves but ordered my Bluestar before they had their red one - I looked at RAL colors at a variety of websites and in part took a chance. I figured ruby red was a good description.

I've since been back there -the color on the stove you saw there is the color I have.

Where did the sample you have come from?

This is part of the reason reds are so problematic: true red has no trace of blue. For instance, blood isn't red, its crimson. So are most barns and fire engines, Chrysler Imperial roses, beets, even cherries-- lots of the things we think of as 'red'. Crimson is far more important than 'true red' on the palettes of most of the artists I know.

Interesting thing with RAL 'ruby red' is that they have it about perfect: a ruby is true, deep red with no trace of purple [blue] when you hold it up to the light. If there is ANY purple, its a garnet. This is a big deal in my valley, where garnets are common enough to mine for abrasives, but a few true rubies have also been found.

It's sort of a shame that there's such a jump [on the RAL chart] between 3003 [ruby] and 3004 [purple red, a dark crimson]. To my eyes, 3003 isn't intense enough, and 3004 is too dark, so I'm probably going with a blue instead.

Deegee: Actually, the sample chip came from Eurostoves; however, while I was visiting we looked at the sample chip and we agreed it was not the same color as the stove on display. We all agreed the chip was wrong or the stove was wrong. When I received this chip in the mail, I immediately knew it was not the red on display. I feel much better, deegeegirl, that your range is Ruby Red and that it does match the one on their floor.

Oruboris, I caved in and purchased the RAL chart from Dorn Color yesterday after calling 30 local paint stores looking for the RAL chart. Accorting to Pritzer Painter, only in rare instances do some areas not have RAL charts in local stores. Lucky me, I live in one of those cities-St. Louis.

I just could not stand it anymore not having the color information right in front of me and knowing the chip was probably wrong. The woman at Dorn said in the last six months she has been surprised at how many they are selling.

Interesting observation about red versus crimson. I would say the range at Eurostoves had no blue in it whatsover. It was a very bright red. The chip I received actually sounds like it could be color 3004 as it is a deep dark red--almost burgundy.

I will let you all know what my Dorn RAL paint fan shows.

Hello All,

The RAL color chart was very helpful. I ended up with a color that is not on the RAL chart though. It is an IFS color known as "Little Red Wagon" product # PLSF 60229. It is a bright cheery red and does not have the yellow of 3001 or 3002. Good luck to you red lovers. This was quite a roller coaster adventure.
