We have now a high from russia here with -10C and in the forecast is more frost. Brrrrr. I dont want imagin, could happen, when the bulbs arrived one week later... Comments (26)I think Modern Aire's prices are comparable to most other big hoods, and I don't think they make their own blowers. We're still waiting for ours, as the salesman at the appliance store forgot to order it. I think he said that Modern Aire uses a Thermador blower, but I'm not positive. I could be speaking nonsense. And yes, they can paint in any RAL color, so I had them do Ruby Red (I think Vent-A-Hood will do RAL colors, too). It turned out a hair different than the BlueStar, but the color is so close that no one is going to notice a difference but me, and I'll forget about it soon enough....See MoreNext best alternative to short lived STAR Ruby red Grapefruit Trees?
Comments (12)STAR Ruby red Grapefruit. People interest in the "STAR Ruby red Grapefruit" may have hope. Very often its the rootstock its grafted to that causes an early demise. I know with kumquats that there are few root stocks that have long term compatibility with the Meiwa making for slow growing and dead trees. A grapefruit can be grown from seed and bud wood of the exact variety could be grafted to it. It might do real well. This applies from zone 10 down to zone 2. Give it a try, Northerner/southerner, and lets see what happens. root stock to kumquat trials. just for an example of incompatibility. Steve...See MoreR. spinosissima, a ruby red autumn rose?
Comments (15)Completely understandable! Everyone has to do what is best for their individual gardening situation. I work in a commercial retail nursery and always chuckle when a customer objects to roses because "They have THORNS!" always said in a tone that implies the most horrifying monster imaginable. I had a young Harrison's Yellow at my original home, which was the spiniest little rose imaginable, but was well worth growing. I'm not one to let a thorn get me down, the only place I'm selective is next to the doorway. I'm hopeful after some internet hunting I can find a spinosissima hybrid with some autumn color available for sale here in the states. Or a kind soul willing to send me a sucker when the warm weather returns....See Morejohnmerr
