I should have posted this earlier, but so many were sick that I wanted the focus to stay on them, not that I want anyone to focus on us. LOL.

Anyway, They caught the fighting dog owner in Texas where he was running another dog fighting ring. He went on trial here and was found guilty on all ten counts. He was sentenced to 5 years. He will be tried in Texas this spring and hopefully he will get added prison time with that one also.

DH and I are doing fine. You could never tell that DH had been in a coma this past summer. He is ornery as ever now.Christmas was difficult for us since that was my due date, but we made it through it.

Lucy and Ethel have helped tremendously. They make us laugh again. Thanks for all of your support during this difficult period in our lives.

Glad to hear that the bad guy will do time....but not enough!
And I am glad to hear you are healing.
I will never walk a dog....or myself without a weapon! I may call it a walking stick....but in a pinch....

Well, at least he didn't get off. Five years does not seem enough for the suffering he inflicted on you and your family. I hope he gets 500 more.

Well, they have to ask for a mistrial any place they can, to preserve the possibility of getting an appeal. It's all part of the process. Just thought of something. Originally, I thought she was all perky and giddy because she thought the trial was going to screach to a halt today, but after thinking it over.... What if she HAS been insisting she wants to testify, her attorney's asked for the mistrial due to incompetance to protect her from herself. Then, when she saw the reports stating she was competant, she was happy, smiling, laughing, because she knows now, she CAN testify! She thinks she can talk her way out of anything. And her attorneys cannot prevent her from testifying if she insists upon getting on the stand--it's her right as a defendant. Know what I think? At this point, if I were her attorney, I'd concede the guilty verdict at this point and stop fighting her, and LET her get on the stand. After she testifies, they should have no trouble convincing the jury that while she is guilty, she's NOT in any kind of state of mind to deserve a death penalty--she's going to come across as totally off the wall. I honestly think it could make a difference in the jury's recommendation.

Thanks Robo. I appreciate it. There wasn’t a lot of information released to the public because apparently there was a gag order on it. Recently however, documentary on Oxygen was able to share a lot more information. As it turned out, Mary, the head nurse had discovered that many patients were receiving an fairly dangerous immune builder who didn’t need it. She canceled their treatments and made Fata aware. But it really alarmed her so she told another physician working there, Dr. Mungulay. He said Fata wouldn’t let other doctors near his patients, but while he was on vacation, Mungulay ended up treating one of his patients at the hospital anyway. She was newly diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and had just broken her leg. However, when he looked at the chart there was no pathology report and her bloodwork was in normal range. She didn’t have cancer. He took that to the clinic manager, who then did some digging and found even more inconsistencies. He went to an Attorney for whistle blowers, who then called the Justice Dept. Fata was arrested within 5 days of that call. And the reason they charged him with Medicare fraud instead of murder and charges directed at the pain he’d caused, the Justice dept said they knew they could prove the fraud case faster. It helps now to have a clearer understanding of what happened. Thanks Neetsie, this happened several years ago, there’s just been some documentaries about it on tv so my old threads have been revived

Nothing that has happened in this man's life excuses what he has done. He is rich. He will likely continue to get away with it. I don't get it. Why all the rapes? The ones who have accused him have to be a tiny percentage of those he has harmed. I hate this person. He disgusts me. that is all I can do. His wife disgusts me. No vow keeps you welded to such a person.

Wow, this has gone off the rails. It really should be a simple question to answer. Please refer to the photo I posted, above, of the parking garage entrance. No other vehicles around, no pedestrians, no animals, no bad weather, etc. Driver with passengers enters the structure, with his attention on the center island to ensure he doesn't run into it. Once he knows he has cleared that structure, he accelerates to proceed into the structure but is oversteered to the right, doesn't correct the direction of his vehicle, and runs into the solid wall on the right-hand side, causing injuries to the occupants of the vehicle, and severe damage to the vehicle. At trial, he admits under oath that he wasn't paying attention to where his car was headed. So, given the "reasonable man theory" - in the same situation given the same set of circumstances, what would a reasonable man have done - would you, as a jury member, vote that the driver was negligent or not negligent? Would you think that the driver has a "duty" to pay attention and be in control of the vehicle and not crash into solid, immovable objects? And how is the above scenario showing any bias? They are undisputed facts introduced at trial through testimony.

Add me to the list of people that are happy he didn't get off scott free, but feel that he needs to do a lot more time! He is a risk to the public and should be treated as such!

And I am so glad that your DH has come through with little or no ill effects, and though I know you have been through a very difficult period it seems that you are both healing emotionally and physically. Lots of puppy hugs to Lucy and Ethel too!

After two of my friends had experiences; really bad ones, and then you, I'm very scared to walk my dog around here.

I'm glad he was found guilty and will do time.

Also it's so good to hear that you and your hubs are doing well. What a relief.

Add my name to those who are glad that you and your husband are on the mend and on the road to recovery. I know just how tough life can be at times but somehow we always find a way to overcome lifes struggles.

I'm so glad to hear that at least some prison time is involved and that you guys are doing better. Your positive attitude is a big part of that I'm sure. Dogs in general scare the carp out of me so I can't imagine going through what you've been through.

Thank you so much for posting an update Linda! You've suffered so much and bore it all with grace and faith, which has been an inspiration. I'm sorry for your suffering but I am glad to know that there was some resolution and your hubby ended up being OK.

Thank you for posting an update. I think a lot about you and your DH and wondered how you were doing.
I am glad the man got some prison time. Although he probably won't spend much of it in prison. The sad thing about the justice system.

I am happy that he has to pay for what he has done, but I'm another who thinks he should recieve a much stiffer sentence. He is no friend to humans or to animals!

So glad you and your husband are healing, Linda. You sounded really good on the phone.

I am not afraid of dogs, I am more afraid of the idiots that teach them terrible behaviors. Any dog can be taught to be mean or gentle.

I have a German Shepherd and we were turned down by 3 home insurance comapnies because we have him. Little did they know that he is so gentle and loving. I could take T-bone steak out of his mouth and he wouldn't even flinch. It's all in how they are raised.

I wish you both a full recovery and a lifetime of happiness with Lucy and Ethel!

Thanks for the update Linda. Good to know DH is doing better and I hope you are too with all that's been going on.

Have to agree with Linda that any dog is a reflection of it's owner and how it is raised. To bad there are some jerks out there that ruin great pup/dogs reguardless of the breed.

I'm "new" to CF since your accident, but from the sounds of it I'm glad that you're healthy and moving forward with life now. What a relief it must be to put the trial phase of an ordeal behind you.
