Dedtired- how do you like your new iPad so far? The 10.5" is intriguing but I wonder if it's more than I need so I was curious what you thought. I like the keyboard/cover too. I know how you feel about the mental exhaustion - this week I've been researching cell phones but when I discovered that Verizon will give me $200 additional off an iPad I figured I'd upgrade that too and give my 9.7" to my DDIL. She's pregnant with her first and may find the iPad handier than her big Macbook. As I mentioned in my other thread my son gave me an iWatch a month ago that's still in the box. So I envision moving into my local Apple store while I take their classes - luckily I have 2 Apple stores within 8 miles so I can spread my ignorance around a little. lol

Hi Lyban. I'm a regular on the Kitchen Table and Cooking Forums. I've used FBP for a number of years, and it works great. I see absolutely no ads whatsoever, and you can also check off the things you want to hide. e.g. people with new friends; games; trending topics; etc. I don't care about any of those things. FB automatically sets your newsfeed to Top Stories, so you might be limited in what your feed is showing. I have FBP set to Most Recent. These are just a few things you can do to personalize FB. I wouldn't be without it, personally. Here's a little 'funny' regarding the recent outage. This breaks me up!

I have a desktop Windows-based pc, as well as an iPad and iPhone. I can transfer photos from the iPad and iPhone to my computer simply by connecting the iPad and/or iPhone to the computer with a USB cord. Well, to clarify, the end that goes into the iPad and iPhone has a Lightning connector, and the end that connects to the computer has a regular USB connector. Once the device is connected, I get a popup window on my pc saying that a new device has been detected, and asking me what I want to do. I click on the choice to explore files on the device. Then I navigate to the folders with the photos, and do the copy/paste thing (there are several different ways to do that, but you should be familiar with them). I don't do "move" because if anything hiccups (such as a power outage, etc.), I don't want to lose the photos. Once they've been copied to the desired destination, I can delete them from the iPad/iPhone. Easy peasy.

That's quite an interesting story. An OS update to close a previously unknown backdoor software flaw that a clever software company had discovered and exploited by developing a surveillance product sold to governments and law enforcement agencies. With all the corrupt governments in the world, there was nothing to prevent such a capability from being misused but all the same, it's to be expected in one form or another. And quite impressive. So in this case, the update is really for Apple, to limit its embarrassment and potential legal liability for its shoddy work. I'm not an Apple fanboy or trash talker - neither - but there have been a series of incidents to knock big chunks out of its wall of arrogance. Remember a few years back when a criminal's iPhone had been obtained by police following a mass shooting incident that appeared to have maybe had a terrorist flavor to it ? Law enforcement, maybe it was the FBI, asked Apple to provide access to find if there were others involved in the plot. Apple refused, claiming only they could access the device but they wouldn't do so out of its policy to respect customer privacy. The cops said fine, we'll go elsewhere, and a private contractor was able to provide access in a few days. It's not schadenfreude on my part but I think reality is that all IT systems and devices can ultimately be vulnerable and for any one provider to falsely suggest that its products are somehow different and above the fray, as Apple often does, is tiresome.
