Buy, buy, buy: What makes you spend on plants?
Comments (31)Hmmm...winter makes me buy plants. To many catalog's and faulty memory for all the work I swore I would curtail next year. Long drawn out mucky/icky springs inspire me also to chase the winter blues away, garden therapy you know. Watching the sizzling summer heat weather reports seems to make me forget all about my cool maritime climate especially when I dream of gardens past...buzzing bees drunken swaying in the hollyhocks, the whine of mosquito s and the scent of bug spray. Autum rolls around, hints of yellowing leaves, shorter days makes me think of purchasing "just a few more bulbs" before winter settles in again. Then there are the memory plants, the ones I grow or purchase because they remind me of people I love or those that have passed...and pass along plants-must not forget those! Old fashioned flowers, the kinds that children delight in picking a big bunch of for their mama's before they head out for home, plants that smell good or have some outstanding feature that carry them beyond the blooming season. I grow plants that self-seed, the ones that knit the garden togather like a quiet friend you always know will help you through the rough patches though you may not see them often. The reasons are as varied and many as the hours I have spent in my gardens....See MoreAny commercials make you boycott rather than buy?
Comments (50)I'm so sad to hear that so many of you have been driven near the edge of insanity by so many of these inane commercial messages. We have a rather wry take on the advertising system by one of the major ones on CBC Radio One, called "The Age of Persuasion" that I find rather interesting: it's been on weekly for several years. I'm not sure what the web address will be, something at www.cbc.ca/ageofpersuasion, or /persuasion, possibly. Maybe catch it on Sirius 137. Have any of you sent messages to the advertiser telling of your reaction to the message? I suspect that if the half dozen or so of you who disparaged several of the major offenders wrote the company, telling them of your displeasure ... that is shared by others, according to their claim on a high quality internet discussion group ... ... they might pay some attention. Squawking on a thread like this, for fun, is one thing ... doing something constructive about it seems to me to be of greater value. This thread makes me rather less concerned that, out here where the three or so stations on TV are snowy, means that I watch little TV ... and am too cheap to spring for satellite. I lived for several years without cable, in the city, after a house-sharer left ....... to live with a pleasant widow that he'd met at a singles' club. Later asked whether he could return: she liked the dog better tham him. Found a less expensive place elsewhere. I hope that you all have a great week: hope that you don't lose the remote (or a "loved one" take it with them when they leave home, following a disagreement). ole joyful P.S. Less than enthused about the hundreds that I've been getting by email offering Peace of mind for Persons suffering from Pitiful Penis. Or the Russian gals seeking a wonderful relationship. Or the guys wanting to slip a box of Bucks ... Gold ... or Damonds ... out of Africa (many claiming to be workers in a bank in Oagadougou, Burkina Faso) (or other places). o j...See Moredo you think powder vs liquid makes any difference?
Comments (11)I read somewhere (probably here) that powder detergent is better for laundry with dirt, while liquid detergent is better for laundry with oil/grease. It also seems to me that hot (at least very warm) water would be needed to get out oil/grease. Liquid detergent does seem to dissolve better in cold/cool wash temperatures, whereas powder detergent seems to require at least a warm water temp to dissolve completely. I use both powder and liquid detergents (all HE formulas) in my Maytag Bravos TL HE washer, and I haven't had any problems at all. No odors, no mold, no mildew, nothing. I do use warm (sometimes hot, depending on what I'm washing) water when I use powder detergent. I also mix vinegar half-and-half with fabric softener, as fabric softener has also been identified as a culprit in causing odors/mold/etc. in FL's. I only use vinegar in the final rinse when I wash towels and wash/dishcloths, as FS leaves a film on them which greatly reduces their absorbency. I did the same when I washed cloth diapers, years ago. Hope this helps....See MoreWhere to buy older iPad ?
Comments (5)To me, the advantage of buying refurbished, besides the lower price, is that the device gets a full checkup and a new battery. I've bought refurbished twice and it came packaged like new. No wear or defects of any kind ..impossible to tell it was a refurb....See MoreRelated Professionals
